A bit random but how soon do you think an idol will come out? International idols have their countries they can escape to if everything turns to shit

idols that are not..well

or i can see an idol coming out when they're 45 and no one cares about them

or an idol that completely leaves the idol scene and opts for regular life coming out

i just do not see an active idol coming out

it is career suicide

I’m almost positive their was a male idol that pretty much straight up said he liked other boys but I can’t for the life of me remember who it was.

Also I’m surprised no one here talks about Imfact (it might have been one of them actually who did the above) one of the members straight up said to another “You’re into boys,” lmao

Sehun said he like men in a concert. Not sure if anyone else, or the full context.

The thing is, in Korea, two celebs (or even normal pp) will hold hands with finger interwined, saying they are soul mate,  kiss, shower together, live together a very long time...., and none of it will account to anything in public. Of course homophobia and denial of gay existence is one reason, but culture is an issue as well.

So unless an idol flat out saying "I am gay/bi", none of other things will be consider coming out by the public.

Why are you being so shady for? The talk on NCT members are always difficult to search about until recently without any cut-offs. Furthermore, when there are more contents to put up, it is bound for the topic to be brought up again.

because i watched most of the "nomin" or whatever nct dream ships without shipping goggles and to me it looks like average fanservice.

trust me it's only suspicious when you ship, i used to be a shipper of chanbaek, some moments that looked "sus" or "weird" looks completly normal to me now.

It wasn’t Sehun. It was a younger male idol, they were being asked about their ideal type and he talked specifically about boys and then like turned around and looked at his members either for support or to see their reactions or something.

As for Imfact they’ve implied many a times that one or more of the members are gay, so again some idols already are like trying to be open about it. Even if Korea does just act like it doesn’t exist I’d think international fans should be able to notice the more subtle things.

IIRC, they (the company+group) tried to cover it up later by stating they all like girls and specified that in a VLIVE after 2 members accidentally kissed (like very heavy emphasis).

AFAIK, Kangmin's enlisted in the army now, but seeing as he's pretty young ('99 liner), he does very well have a career ahead of him.

Or who knows, after he's discharged, he may come out officially.

I think it would be interesting to discuss Kyungsoo (D.O). I’ve been unable to get much from him so if anyone else had more strong ideas please share! It’s easy to dismiss him a straight due to a lack of receipts or whatever but idk I’m unable to shake my suspicion that maybe just maybe he’s not. I mean he’s at least an ally cause he went to watch lgbtq productions like The Handmaiden (with Sehun lol), Jo Kwon’s Priscilla (with Suho hehe) and the musical Hedwig right?

yes, he also went to watch "Another Country" play (and accidentally met SHINee's KEY lol) :

and Dallas Buyers Club :

I saw that Wonho has comeback on the scene and I know that there was some talk about him in the past on here. So what’s up with him do people think he’s gay or just an ally?

I think he is bi.

I find this interview interesting (though it could be seen as something not that serious):

Wonho is the best | MONBEBE Amino

There's probably more receipts I'm missing so feel free to add on to this

I just want a bit of discussion in this topic, so I want to ask:

Why do you think real gay idols and possible "real couple" would refrain from being lovey dovey on cam or stay lowkey when if you think about it:

  • Company have no reason to push a fake ship and hide a real coupe while the financial results would be relatively the same and fake or real couple the "whether he gay or not" talk would still happen? Real couple would even have more chemistry and easier to push and would refrain the idols from dating rumors/news with het girls.
  • Couple happening in the same group would be more likely to happen than a random meetup somewhere? I know the general consensus for dating is "don't sh*t where you eat", but if you are a busy idol, both you and your teammate are gay and you spend almost all the time together, you depend on each other both in work and emotionally because of work, would you happen to more likely fall for that teammate? (same with doctor/nurse and air hostess/pilot combo, don't happen all the time but do happen alot)
  • Showbiz I think are much more tolerant towards lgbtq+, even in a conservative country like Korea. Similar to my line of work (advertising), I think this industry is more open towards lgbtq+, simply many flock into the industry and it is much more normalized. So if an idol acting sus too many times, I don't think it's good acting (you can't act 24/7, most idol shred the company-forged image over time), but rather that how he behaves naturally since it is not frown upon by the people working and living around him.

Just some thoughts, pls be kind 😄

I don't think a company would actively push a couple who was dating irl just because that could end badly when they split up. That said, I also don't think they would say no fanservice if it was one where that was already normal. I imagine they would want to keep the status quo (and that's assuming the members would be open about dating, which I imagine they wouldn't in most cases).

I agree with your second point. Dating someone you work with in general isn't always the smartest choice because of what could happen if the relationship ended but it happens ALL the time. I just looked it up and about 10-20% of people met their significant other at work. That number is higher when you look at people who eventually get married (around 1 in 4). Considering KPop idols work AND live together...I imagine dating in the industry is far more common than what we officially know and that goes for queer and het couples.

Why would a company who has roots deep in an homophobic environment be so comfortable with promoting a real gay couple so obviously that could do so much harm if anything goes wrong? Companys first priority is money, why would they let this potential atomic bomb to their income drop so freely? I don't know, but it doesn't make any sense to me.

companies would be dumb as hell to push real couples to fans and I don't doubt they'd heavily discourage it from happening in the first place. How many groups go sour because of problematic relations? and that's without adding romance to the mix. Sure many people meet their SOs at work but you realise work for K-Pop idols isn't just them and their 3-10 group mates 24/7...there's tons of people who work at their company who they'd have a much easier time dating. How many idols have to be revealed to be dating for years before fans stop pushing this "they're too busy to meet people" thing lol. If anything idols probably meet a ton more different people than those who go to the same office every day.

heavily pushed couples invite crazy stans who'll do anything to figure out if their faves are actually together, that's the last thing you want if you have something to hide. I mean we're talking stalking, leaking of CCTV footage etc. The risk would be immense. Honestly aside from genuine friendships that exist most lovey-dovey fanservice has always seemed pretty calculated to me. You can tell companies know exactly what's popular and what sells.

Honestly, I think the arguments that there are "easier" or "less risky" options really only goes so far. People make dumb decisions about who they get involved with all the time cause our hearts are dumb.

I think the best comparison would be to actors & actresses in Hollywood. It's super common they end up dating someone within the industry, including people who work behind the scenes on set. But there are a lot who end up dating or hooking up with co-stars during filming and I'm sure there are WAY more than we'll ever know. It's the dumb/risky choice but it happens.

I'm sure the same thing happens with idols.

I mean sure. But I reckon it's rare, not just for the fact that a majority of idols is bound to be straight just statistically speaking. Also the fact that most of these kids train together from a young age and are practically owned by their companies until they really get successful. And of course we've heard a lot about how some groups as it turns out don't even like each other very much behind the scenes. Fans get caught up in their fantasies about things heating up at dance practice too much.

I think it's probably fairly common for dating or hook ups to occur between both queer and het couples.

As far as them being kids who trained together...look at how often Disney or Nick stars dated or hooked up within that small pool (usually with co-stars). Or any sitcom or show that had a primarily teen cast (Brady Bunch, Saved by the Bell, etc.). I'd argue Disney & Nick have just as strong of a control over their stars as KPop companies do. It's honestly less about controlling their actual actions and more about controlling the image.

This isn't about fantasizing about fanfic troupes. It's just a realistic observation about how people tend to met their significant other. Maybe stop connecting any queer relationship back to the fetishization of it.

A few pages ago we saw how bad it can turn out when two people who doing fanservice together are caught up emotions. Even if we leave that to aside, it certainly doesn't sound convincing to me for a company to promote the real gay couple. Yes, people can get caught up in their emotions. But I'm sure these companies also firmly advise not to be emotionally attract to each other while teaching their members how to fanservice. And I am sure that if they feel that something like this is happening, they will intervene before the situation progresses.

I can't even imagine a scenario where an idol would be open about their relationships, even the het idols.  LBR, the majority of kpop idol relationships are probably secret from the company until it gets super serious.
