Which male idols do you think are gay?

Well no, I never said that. But the issue is more nuanced though. For example, lesbian porn is made by and for straight men, even though it's actually a top porn category with the female viewers, and not the male ones. There is a very specific brand of lesbianism that appeals to straight males, because they are attracted to the fantasy of it, not anything resembling its reality.

 

So, for example, someone like Moonbyul, who is considered a girl crush idol, doesn't look and act the way she does for the male demographic. Girl crush doesn't inherently have anything to do with gay fanservice between the members, it's usually just about putting girls in suits or other cool outfits. Moonbyul can of course appeal to men too, but the phrase girl crush literally means that a female idol is supposed to make the female fans swoon for a change. Girls like girls in suits. (Twice demographic is pretty evenly distributed between the sexes btw.)

 

I didn't mean to say that I take companies' intentions at face value. Companies will always do things to maximize the profits and appeal to the widest demographic possible with their business decisions, so of course that male idols crossdressing can also appeal to the demographic that would fetishize male homosexuality. I just meant that for me personally, that is not what I get out it, and from what I've observed within the fandom, most female fans don't interact with it like that either. Again, just my experience, others might feel differently.

 

Gender nonconformity is heavily present in kpop, and it's something which appeals to a lot of LGBT people, including me, so I quite tend to like the crossdressing aspect too. A girl in a suit is cool, a boy in a dress is cute, there ain't much more to it than that for me personally. So mostly my point was that imo things aren't so clear-cut that I would feel comfortable saying that male idols crossdressing is specifically done so that the fangirls can fetishize them. I think that for a lot of people the gay fetishization aspect doesn't even come into the equation here.

From what I've observed, men dressing as women is seen as comedy. That's the context of most BTS crossdressing pictures. They were made to crossdress as a joke. That's how its treated in the fandom as well.

 

On the other hand, women crossdressing as men is completely normal because men's fashion is "gender neutral" lol

I think another thing that makes topics like these difficult is that there's inherently a huge difference between the intentions of a company and how LGBTQ fans interact with content, as well as between the way cishet and LGBTQ fans interact with it. We know that most gay fanservice isn't really done for gay/bi people. For some gay/bi fans, knowing the original intent is enough to turn them off of it completely, but others still enjoy it for what it is. Same with gender non-conformity. I don't think either is wrong, as long as we don't fall into praising the company for being progressive. Anything progressive either comes from the idols themselves or the way we interact with it as fans (for example, LGBTQ BTS fans loving Yoongi's female persona Yoonji, and not treating her like a joke).

I also thought it was all choreo but the way the dancer almost straddled his thigh or the way Kai put his hands around his waist came off as very intimate compared to the other members' interaction with their assigned dancer. Interesting indeed.

i sort of agree but, I saw his Instagram and he has a kid. Yes I know that doesn’t mean he is not gay. My friends do this who are straight guys so, I don’t know what to say. It is sus especially the pulling of the waist made me 👀.

I have a lot of issues with "girl crush" concepts because it basically takes girls groups and makes them more "masculine" for a concept (your first example for a concept like this would be girls wearing suits, something that is inherently connected to males by most cultures.). Which I have a lot of issues with due to the implication that being sweet, cute, etc. is lesser and that to be "empowered" you need to take on masculine qualities but I'll save that rant for another time.

 

But girl crush concepts also almost always have an underlying lesbian vibe to them as well. For example, I've seen a ton of people label Red Velvet's Bad Boy mv a girl crush concept but the thumbnail for the video is all of them laying on top of each other in a bed.

 

The song was written by men and the video was directed by men as well so that's where it personally gets sketchy to me.

 

Edit: I also went back and watched that video and there is a lot of the girls cuddling and whispering in bed.

If I, as a woman had to pin a concept made for the male gaze/based on mens' wants, it would be cute concepts, not girl crush concepts. Girls crush concepts are for us. Forced cuteness is what a lot of het men desire and ask for. Idk where you got this from, but girl crush concept get less support from men and more support from wlw in general. Forcing female idols to use unaturally high and cute voices and act like way younger girls than they are is pandering to the male crowd, not the other way round.

That seems to be the case, at least imo. He's pretty touchy feely to the people he's really close to (Taemin, Moonkyu,etc), if you follow him. Not saying he can't be bi or gay or anything but yeah.

Hey gays, I've come to impart a theory upon you all that EXO's Chanyeol is in a relationship with Japanese-American actor Arata Mackenyu. Some background information: Mackenyu is 22 (Chanyeol is 26), he's a rising actor in Japan, and he also has gay rumours. Gonna put everything under the spoiler because it's kinda long:

 

 

 

It's been long joked about in the EXO fandom that Chanyeol has a secret Japanese girlfriend, which is why he goes to Japan so frequently. But tbh it's looking a lot more likely that he actually has a secret Japanese boyfriend. First let's start off with a timeline of the both of them (dates in dd/mm/yy format): 

• 04/09/18 – Chanyeol in Japan till an unknown date, but left before 14/09/18.
• 07/09/18 – Chanyeol follows Mackenyu on Instagram, Mackenyu follows him back on the same day. 22/09/18 – The first time Mackenyu likes one of Chanyeol’s first Instagram posts.
• 26/09/18 – Chanyeol returns to Korea from Japan. Spent Chuseok in Japan but don’t know exactly when he left Korea (was most likely only there for about 3 days though). Was with Choi Taejoon (actor, friend).
• Couldn’t find any flight details for October and November (preparation for comeback in October then comeback in November. He had group schedules in Japan, so I’m not ruling out that he could have seen Mackenyu there. Also not ruling out that he could have evaded fans at the airport which is why there’s no info).
• 22/12/18 – In Japan till an unknown date (I’m guessing he went back to Korea around the 29th). Not sure about the exact date that he went as there are no fansite pictures but I think it was around this time. Bearing in mind that Christmas Eve in Japan is kind of their version of Valentine’s Day, and couples often go out to celebrate.
• Chanyeol and Kasper (choreographer, Chanyeol’s gym buddy and friend) in Japan from 01/01/19 to 06/01/19 – Kasper and Mackenyu post selfie together on 05/01/19, Chanyeol and Mackenyu post selfie together on 06/01/19.
• Can’t find the exact dates he left and came back but on 15/01/19, Chanyeol was seen in Japan with Mackenyu.
• Chanyeol and Kyungsoo in Japan from 15/02/19 to 21/02/19 – selfie with Mackenyu posted on 20/02/19.
• Chanyeol in Japan from 24/03/19 to 29/03/19. Passersby said they saw him with Mackenyu.
• Chanyeol travels with Kyungsoo to Japan on 14/04/19. CBX have tour dates in Japan on 16/04/19 and 17/04/19. To my knowledge, Chanyeol does not go to either of the concert dates, but Kyungsoo does (I don’t know if Kyungsoo went to just one date or both of them). On 17/04/19 after the concert, CBX and Kyungsoo fly back to Seoul together while Chanyeol stays in Japan. Chanyeol comes back to Korea on 19/04/19. While he was there, he went to see Haruma Miura in the “Kinky Boots†production (Haruma is one of Mackenyu’s close friends).
