Which male idols do you think are gay?

Recommended Posts

Can I play the devil's advocate here? I don't necessarily agree with what I'm going to write but it's another viewpoint that I think may be worthy of discussion. We saw that most of the judges (mostly men) flicked off their lights due to discomfort/disgust. Among the judges,Taehyung and Namjoon are the only idols present. Do you think there would be any reason for Taehyung and Namjoon to feel pressured not to flick off their lights if they secretly felt uncomfortable with the performance?

Do you think they would be aware that they could get into controversy (especially internationally) if they were to join the other male judges and turn their lights off? Among the judges they are the only ones who could get criticism and scrutiny if they flicked their lights off, and that's something they were possibly aware of. Taehyung's dance don't lie but it's just a stray thought I have.

don't roast me pls guys

I didn't want to point this out but RM was slightly uncomfortable with it but didn't turn it off cause dancing with heels is tough. Its what he said himself. And I think taehyung just doesn't give a shit lol he seemed to be enjoying the dance

So after all we'll gonna have a journalist outing a korean celebrity.

This is wrong at so many levels. Is one thing to have rumors floating around and an entirely other thing to have a journalist writing about it like this.

Unless he is referring to HSC, the words 'korean celebrity gay' shouldnt be put together. Whoever that celebrity is, i feel sorry for him and all the celebrity who have to hide because people like him.

Exactly. This is nothing to be excited about tbh. Also I highly doubt anyone just outed themselves like that to a random stranger, especially suga. He's not an idiot.

I'm guessing he heard some gossip or went to a gay bar. Or maybe he's just attention whoring. Either way he's trashy for this.

let me just say something: i really appreciate every single bit of support that the LGBTQ community gets cause god knows we need it. and i'm very thankful for namjoon expressing (in timid ways) his support for us. but the amout of praise they get is completely disproportional to the amount of support they actually show. i absolutely love the boys, but lets be real here.

i wish they would actually, outspokenly, say that they support the lgbt cause, not only saying that all love is equal, but actually supporting our demands. i understand why they don't, i'm not demanding them to do so, i'm just saying that i wish they would do so.

Kpop fans usually speak in hyperbole when praising their faves. For example people calling RV and twice lgbt queens for some suggestive fanservice in their MV's. It's not meant to be taken so seriously.

It's totally fine to hope for more outspoken support though. Maybe in the future RM will be more confident while answering such questions. But people expecting them to start a revolution should sit down lol. For instance I'm 100% sure people will twist it and accuse them of trying to look woke. This type of shit happens very often with bts.

So the new BTS comeback trailer came out, and Tae was the one singing and these are the lyrics:

A sound of something breaking

I awake from sleep

A sound full of unfamiliarity

Try to cover my ears but can’t go to sleep

The pain in my throat gets worse

Try to cover it

I don’t have a voice

Today I hear that sound again

It’s ringing again, that sound

A crack again on this frozen lake

I dumped myself into the lake

Over the winter lake I was thrown

A thick ice has formed

In the dream I shortly went into

My agonizing phantom pain is still the same

Have I lost myself

Or have I gained you

I suddenly run to the lake

There’s my face in it

Please don’t say anything

Reach my hand out to cover the mouth

But in the end, spring will come someday

The ice will melt and flow away

Tell me if my voice isn’t real

If I shouldn’t have thrown myself away

Tell me if even this pain isn’t real

What I was supposed to do back then

so basicly, in my interpretation, is a song about failing to hide who this person is. So in the context of stigma, a song about being sorry for who a person is, im getting highkey gay subtext on this dave.png

Don't want to be a buzzkill but I think the song is actually about the concept this time, unlike stigma which was based on his experiences. They're supposedly trying to reference narcissus, which relates to the love yourself theme.

i don't get how this relates to the myth about narcissus in any way tho? unless that part where he's dancing with himself is supposed to represent him falling in love with his own reflection???

The lyrics talk about his reflection in the lake, plus  throwing himself into the lake etc

I wouldn't say that's the only thing that would be hidden in s korea -- there's a massive stigma around issues of mental health, and mental illness and depression, despite being very present in korea and especially so in the entertainment industry, are kept behind closed doors for the most part.

Could stigma and the metaphor of hiding oneself be about sexuality? Yes. Could they be about mental health? Yes. For an ordinary person, sexuality may be the biggest secret one is forced to hide, but for a celebrity, anything, be it a mental health issue, a relationship gay or straight, a habit like smoking, an aspect of one's personality that is less than perfect -- it all has to be hidden, or people will descend on them like wolves.

I'm not saying that it can't be about sexuality. But I do think that the metaphor of wearing a mask strongly applies to concealing any aspect of oneself, and as a celebrity, that's a whoooole lot of things.

Exactly. It's too vague to form any kind of conclusions. And this isn't like stigma where tae wote the song based on his experiences. But people can interpret however they want of course. I personally think the song is talking about their concept though.

Okay thank you. I thought it might be to do with filming because it's easier to keep them in the same place than to have them split up all round the city.

Apparently Jimin is getting sent hate by some fans and Tae and Jimin are being told to kill themselves. I don't know what gets into some of this fandom, it's super extreme at times. :$ What I've seen is translated from Korean so don't exactly know what's going on. But threatening your idols is some next level bullshinny.

It seems to have erupted overnight. Is it to do with shippers getting angry about Jimin's comments to JK?

No it's cause jimin forgot to write tae's name on the black board in this tweet.

It's really dumb and why I literally can't with the fandom nowadays.

Namjoon is so low-key tender with Jimin, it's nice to see. I think he knows when people get stressed and anxious and he takes care of them. They're a very handsy bunch in general, but these Namjoon moments are great because he tends to get overlooked.

I also sense a shift in Y and Tae lately, like something has matured there (they're also gentle atm). There was a bunch of weird printed 'quotes' released 2 days ago where 'Suga' came off as seeming quite mean about 'V', then a day later out comes the most beautiful hand-written Festa Manual stuff about him (which V gave 5 stars out of 5 ^^), proving they do have a deep bond. I'm apt not to try to label it much as it's truly their business, but you'd have to be a stone cold witch not to cheer for these two as either good friends or more.

Those "mean" quotes were like back in 2014. I guess they must have gotten closer since then.

I think 'The Message' was pretty much all nicely staged. :) It's body language I watch with these guys.

Look how Jin puts his hand supportively on Yoongi's back before Tae even starts rattling off (a name). Jin knew what was coming, he knew who was involved. Yoongi knew it was coming because his body's curled defensively from the off and he's wearing the biggest sweater which he later pulls up around his neck.

Plus, the way BTS scream the place down when one of them does a hip pop or a shimmy - does anyone really think that close Tae and Jungkook are going to wait until a public dinner party months or years down the line - to announce to each other that they got a loving text from the Hardest Rapper On The Planet?

What is interesting is though it was setup imo (and also really sweet) it allows members extra room to be more publicly expressive than before.

They have a general flow of what they're supposed to talk about and then they just improvise on the spot to make it humorous. Doesn't mean the incident itself has to be fake.

I feel like jokwon is easing people into the possibility of him being gay and may actually come out one of these days. If he does I hope it goes well. I'm sure international fans will atleast support him. Whatever happens I commend him for being so bold.

I've always suspected Jin, even if I don't suspect this answer. He has made questionable moments in the past. For example, when Jin was asked if he ever received any chocolates for Valentine's Day and he kept insisting that he didn't receive any, so Yoongi had to 'clarify' that Jin went to an all boys school and the situation became more suspicious because Jin shakes his head like that lol

Same. I wonder why people don't talk about him much here. And I've never seen him show interest in girls, but there's been moments for the other members Edited by Sdm

There was a point where I thought Vhope really dated or at least taehyung was crushing on him but then I realised if you pay attention you'd find sus moments for any 2 bts members. Especially for vkook/jikook cause they're really close and they also play up the fanservicey interactions and the whole brotherhood/family vibe. This is very apparent in Bon voyage. So when people argue about ships I always get confused cause really what makes your ship any more suspicious than the others?

My annoyance stems from my experiences with the 1D fandom and how two members had their relationship (whatever it was) all but terminated by huge, noisy armies of shippers reading minutia into everything, also ignoring all other possibilities/people/interactions. And so the boys just stopped communicating, and they don't openly communicate to this day. If they do have a friendship or relationship, it's kept locked behind doors. And how sad is that?

My post was not intended to be so long but I snapped. It was not aimed at one person (apologies to that poster for copping it!). It's not my cup of belief although I have no problem with Tae and Jk theory posts, per se. But honestly, show me something that's not basic, ordinary interactions that have normal explanations, ya know? And please don't erase other members importance in scenes where clearly the focus is not Vkook. I think that if you're prepared to be objective and consider context and setting, then really critical 'sus' moments stand out a lot more.

Larry had a legitimate reason to be weirded out, since I highly doubt they encouraged all the yaoi shipping to the extent kpop idols do. Their fangirls were working on crumbs and humongous reaches and wouldn't stop even after Louis became a father.

However I wouldn't completely blame fans for reading too much into kpop ships. If idols are that uncomfortable with all the gay shipping then maybe they should stop encouraging these delusions in the first place. A lot of stuff they do goes well beyond normal brotherly interactions or friendship and they're well aware of this. If I were a new fan and watched a taekook analysis video I would totally get suspicious too cause I don't know better. Imo bts maknae line (and most idols in general tbh) don't give a shit and even have fun with it sometimes. But that's just me. You can tell when certain idols dislike partaking in this stuff so they mostly stay away.

^^ I agree. There's a very few male or female idols that appear comfortable with the opposite sex, probably because of fear of backlash and scrutiny from fans. It's just easier to pretend they're uninterested or shy. It's very refreshing (and sometimes a bit suspicious) when male idols don't act awkward around girls.

edit: this appeared in the next page lol. I'm talking about the post before me

I feel like there's a huge difference between being cautious around girls on-camera to avoid dating rumors and saying in an interview that you have no interest in girls specifically, and in fact prefer being around men. Gay-baiting fanservice exists, but appealing to straight girls' fantasies about dating them is still absolutely the #1 priority. It's one thing to say you're not interested in dating right now (in other words, "I won't cheat on you fans") and another to say that you're just not interested in even being around girls. That makes no sense as a marketing strategy.

I think you're overthinking it. A lot of fans feel relieved their bias isn't interested in dating or the opposite sex. It shows they're serious about being idols and they don't have to worry about their bias being taken. Not talking about taeyong here, Idk know him and maybe he really isn't interested in girls. But saying I have no interest in girls is not new for male idols, it's a common form of fanservice

Not being interested in dating has nothing to do with how seriously they take being a performer. I laugh every time I see some form of this comment.

They are ridiculously busy, even the most casual fan knows that. Every group's members are incredibly driven and hardworking or they wouldn't have survived all those years of training much less actually debuting. Because the pressure on them actually increases at that point.

Obviously most of them don't have time to date. But whether they are actually interested in anyone special at the moment or not, most of them do daydream about dating someone.

Answering that they don't have an ideal type is much easier if they just say "I'm just not interested in dating."

I was talking about delusional kfans who think dating around means an idol isn't serious about his work. What you said is how everyone should feel but that's not what actually happens

Yep, and I learned it the hard way :(

But I was thankful because that experience gave me the introduction to the inner-world of shipping fangirls, especially when it comes to their insistence in celebrating the gayness of oppa- which kinda funny because they don't celebrate any sign of gayness at all in real life.

These shippers ship so hard and religiously when it comes to their ships(and sometimes they'd support other ships as long as those ships don't have their OTP in it) you'd think of them as open-minded LGBTQ allies if you judge them based on their shipping activities, but when it comes to real LGBTQ you'd suddenly see a very opposite reality that you'd wonder if they have split personalities or something. Just think of it like this- by the way asian fangirls shipping their male idols since the 80s and 90s, you'd think LGBTQ would have real presence and same-sex marriage already reality in majority of Asia now.

But the real world? Nah. We only have Taiwan on the verge of being the first country to legalize gay marriage, and we're reaching the end of 2010s. Those fangirls who ship hard in the 80s and 90s(I know Korean idol scene started by Seo Taiji in the 90s, but Japanese entertainment industry saw the surge of these shipping-fujoshi starting around 80s)would have become mothers and/or mature women by now, maybe in their late 30s or 40s. And yet we don't see overwhelming support for LGBTQ among that age bracket. Youd think they're busy fighting for LGBTQ, but no- they're as silent as little lambs when it comes to real LGBTQ, they only have concern for their fantasized ships.

I maybe wrong, but the way it goes, I think asians generally take these "I have no interest in dating girls/opposite sex" statement as sign of professionalism, that they're ready to focus 200% on their career and won't have any space in their minds for things like dating or sex. I honestly find it interesting how common it is for asian idols to state these kind of sentence which normally would make western media exploding about the person being not straight- but in asia it seems to be taken as signs of focusing on their career instead. Maybe because asian parents&teachers love to ban students dating or crushing on another, they'd always say it takes away their attention from studying for national final exam or for uni entrance exam.

So long as they don't say "I'm gay", they can say they have no interest in socializing with female, they can't understand girls, they prefer the companion of male, etc and everyone would think they're straight, professional, career-minding straight guys preparing for their future. That's why even among idols who proclaims they have no interest in girls yadda yadda, none of them ever say "I''m gay" because it's the real death kneel for their idol career.

You're right. It's a pretty common notion, and is one of the main things kfans bitch about when they catch their bias dating. Which is why I don't find it all that suspicious when idols say that.

Idk anything about NCT but I think some people here should tread carefully about sexual harassment accusations. It's a serious matter, don't treat it as you would with ships with all the over-analyzing and conjecture. It's entirely possible you could be misreading the situation, what we see on camera is really very flimsy evidence.

You tried. Everything you've said was addressed BEFORE you commented. Not a fangirl btw (not even a girl), and not trying to handle it for him lol. Just stay quiet. You have nothing to add.

I don't want to be rude but this is precisely what I was talking about when I mentioned people veering dangerously close to disingenuous. This isn't about ships. Ships couldn't be anymore inconsequential to this than they already are. There also aren't """leaps""" being made. We've seen Winwin outright express discomfort with physical contact, both in general and from specific members in particular. We've now seen Taeil grab his ass. After that we saw Winwin CLEARLY uncomfortable with it. Those are facts and are not up for debate. Let's be real for a second, you would have to actively be trying to shut your brain off and play dumb to interpret Winwin's reaction after Taeil touched his butt as anything resembling consent or approval. We all know damn well he wasn't okay with it.

Saying that we need to know what goes on behind closed doors to have an opinion on this is fallacious at best. It's like saying that witnessing someone shoplifting isn't enough to know that they've stolen because we don't know what their dynamic with Walmart is. We know Walmart has never expressed comfort with shoplifting, and if we see security come running out after the shoplifter(not that they do that anymore) (or see Winwin jump away, clearly not wanting that contact, in this case)...yeah...we can make an educated guess. We're commenting on Taeil's actions in public. Those actions we've seen -- again, in public -- are problematic.

And again, we don't need a second opinion from any other member of NCT. They may not be aware, view it the same way Winwin does, or know how to address it. That still doesn't alter that Winwin clearly wasn't okay with having his ass grabbed by Taeil. In fact, none of these mental gymnastics will change that.

Any of us who have held down an office job for any length of time have probably had to go through sexual harassment training. Let me tell you, grabbing a coworker's ass without consent fits the bill. Employers have been sued for FAR less. I don't buy for a single second that any of you are in doubt that that behavior qualifies as sexual harassment and I know for a fact none of you would be so bold as to grab a non-consenting coworker or classmate in that way.

The point in a nutshell: Winwin was not okay with having his ass grabbed. We all knew he wouldn't be (and Taeil knew damn well that he wouldn't be) because he made it clear he wasn't liking the physical attention Taeil has been giving him.

I got uncomfortable with people speaking in absolutes and analysing videos for evidence of harassment. That's not how you accuse people of harassment, especially when you don't know the context. I think it's enough to say taeil should stop making win-win uncomfortable, especially since the latter has apparently voiced it out, and leave it at that.

But like I said idk anything about nct or the members, I'm not trying to shield anyone here. Just an observation.
