I don't really see how it could be damaging especially if you're not ignorant or homophobic.

 

Some people get surprised if they happen to find out someone is gay and that's about it. Nothing damaging there.

 

The point is that "straight" is not the default human setting, and if you think that it is then the next logical step is to think that anything other than straight is abnormal, which is in fact incredibly damaging. And even if you yourself by some twisted bastardization of logic don't think that not being straight is abnormal even though you think straight is the default, if you behave like it is then others will get the impression that it is too, which is also damaging.

He looks kinda disheartened. Idk wtf happened between them, but Changmin got super wary of skinship with Jaejoong around that time, like he was disgusted with him but trying not to look like he was @_@

 

I used to think he was a really homophobic asshole too, but then he does skinship with other guys... and I'm like 100% certain that he knew Jaejoong was gay wayyyy before this, so I really have no idea what could've caused this sudden rejection of him. He really seemed like he was subtly threatening to out Jaejoong if he didn't lay off, so something really big must've happened, 'cause outing somebody is a massive taboo.

I just think jaejoong went too much with it and changmin started to feel uncomfortable around him I mean you do know that jaejoong stole his first kiss right lol I mean of course I would love to have my first kiss with jaejoong but that's different cuz I'm a straight girl who loves him but if I was changmin at that time it probably would've been a bit awkward and uncomfortable to have your kiss stolen by someone whom I consider a big brother

It is not me who is claiming that if someone isn't straight by default, then they are abnormal. It is you. It is you who is using that word, it is you who's coming up with your own interpretation. It is you coming who is claiming that the next step is automatically being abnormal if you're anything else but the default.

 

I actually do think being straight is the default human setting given the ratio of a straight person to someone who is LGBT and the ability to reproduce but I also believe that being LGBT is a natural occurence. I plainly differentiate the 2 based on their attractions not as "one is normal and the other weird/abnormal. I view them as colors not something like birth defects which I believe is how a lot of other people see it. The idea about it being abnormal is all just you Hanryu. We are obviously a minority by a large margin compared to straight people and many people, if not, everyone has been raised in a heteronormative society so there's hardly a possibility that people are going to assume a guy is gay if he's not effeminate. Your colleagues are most likely to tease you in a joking manner if you're getting a little close to someone of the opposite sex. People aren't going to bother thinking up anything "suspicious" between 2 male friends or 2 female friends unless they notice anything "convincing enough". I don't see how it's damaging in this situation.

I need your brain

I am very often getting engaged in the debates where someone is always trying to convince me that being gay is an abnormality and an error caused by social environment and individual's mental development. It's like almost all people around me believe that heterosexuality is a standard. And also they really believe that if we talk about homosexuality in public, there would be decline in the birth-rate. Of course, I undestand that this is complete bullshit, and there's no such thing as homosexual propaganda. 

And then... all their arguments about socium and all - this is also bullshit. I mean, how then there are homosexual animals, almost in all kinds of them? How do we explain it unless we were born that way?

I really believe that homosexuality is NOT a deviation. I think it keeps the world in balance. It's nature.

How do I explain that to people? How to educate them? Could you maybe share your opinion with me? I would be really grateful.

I ran out of arguments, and I need that to convince some people.

To start, considering how overpopulated the earth is, we need a massive decline in birth rate. Particularly in countries with poverty issues. Having more people be open about their homosexuality and adopting children instead of pretending to be straight and getting into opposite sex marriages and making children of their own, etc, would be a small blessing to the human race. We need to at least halve the world population if every human is to live well without worrying about destroying the earth or taking something from somebody else who might also need it @_@

Error refers to something being a mistake. That doesn't make sense in the context of nature, where there is no obvious intent.

 

Of course, statistically, there will be an average (which people may refer to as the norm). And from this average, there's always deviations...just like in every other population measurements (such as height, weight, etc). The problem comes when people claim this deviation is undesirable, which is more of a moral/social construct (resulting in various subjective interpretations) not ingrained in nature. In nature, there isn't such an idea that things are meant to be a certain way. So to say that homosexuality is an error of nature, or that it doesn't belong in nature is absurd.

 

If it was such an undesirable evolutionary trait, it wouldn't exist. It's either beneficial, or at worst incidental.

 

Nature doesn't make errors. There may be blips here and there, but as you said errors imply intent. The only "intent" of evolution is to pass on genes, and the most beneficial genes get passed on the most, while incidental ones get taken along for the ride. This is true of all living organisms.

 

"Error" also implies that it can be "corrected", which we know through generations of trying simply can't be done. It also doesn't account for why homosexuality occurs at similar rates in all societies, even the extremely homophobic ones.

Btw, about genetics. They say that the main goal of a human is to procreate, and there's natural selection going on. And that the ones with "errors" are outcasted. Then how do we explain that gay people don't cease to exist? Is it some gay-genes in DNA? There was an article about women carrying the gay-gene. And the others believe in Freud: all people are bisexual. Others believe in Kinsey scale... There's no certain answer, god, it pisses me off.

If the genes were harmful to the continuation of the species, they would've been weeded out long before now through natural selection. As it is, it's obvious that homosexuality is either beneficial or at least harmless to existence~

 

The Kinsey scale does have some truth to it, in that most people aren't 100% straight or 100% gay... but that doesn't mean everybody is bisexual. It's like how most people aren't 100% masculine or 100% feminine, but that doesn't make everybody androgynous XD

I think Chen may be bisexual. I know that he's attracted to girls, but a lot of times, he pings me as bisexual as well. I know he has a good relationship with all the EXO boys, but I do feel that he may have crushes or may be possibly attracted to guys as well, especially Suho (he's spoken about Suho since MAMA era and now that they're back with OT12, there have been quite a bit of moments between the two and some of their moments seem to be very real, especially coming from Chen's side. He just seems really happy and playful whenever he's with Suho and he literally lights up around him a lot of times.). He also seems to be very comfortable with skinship and doesn't mind giving it and has no problems with any of the guys (so even if he's not gay or bisexual), he's probably one of the most accepting members of the group. 

  

 

 

 

What do you all think? It seems many seem to think he's straight, but every time I see him, he always pings me of being bi or at least someone that could possibly be open to having a relationship with a man if something like that was readily acceptable in Korea.
