Which male idols do you think are gay?

Recommended Posts

Watching some of the videos posted and it becomes more and more apparent why the idols do the whole fanservice thing. Two male idols could just touch for a brief moment and the audience is literally *SCREAAAAAMMMMM*

Like, yeah, why wouldn't you tell the idols you manage to be a little touchy with each other onstage and otherwise, because even a tiny bit sets off this huge reaction. For such a little thing, such a big reaction.

This just makes it so much harder for me to separate fanservice from actual physical/emotional attraction, or actual homosexual behavior stemming from one's own interest in the same sex. Though this is a discussion that's probably been had a million times on this particular thread lol.

You know, since we are talking about it, I don't think underage idols should be a thing. It's an industry that is all about selling people to the opposite sex, and underage people shouldn't be subjected to that. That's not to say underage people can't release music or be popular, just that the idol industry should honestly be R-18.

But this whole mess is dumb, especially when nobody bats an eyelash if an underage boy is asked what kind of girls he likes or...

Let's not enforce a culture where LGBT is predatory, or where LGBT is a mature thing. It's not.

I'm sorry this is slightly OT:

Let's maybe not equate homophobia with hating white people? Homophobia is systemic oppression that's been inflicting violence on innocent people for centuries. White people have never been oppressed for being white in the whole history of the world. When people say they hate white people, it's generally in response to the hundreds of years white people have spent invading, colonizing, committing genocide, enslaving millions, stealing natural resources, polluting the environment, and reinforcing racism through the media. You might feel like that's not fair to you because you didn't do those things personally, but I find it more productive to direct any frustrations towards white people in power who are acting as such terrible representatives, than towards people feeling understandable resentment. And by the way, I say that as someone who's mostly white.

I'm sorry but

you say that we should direct our frustration towards white people in power, but then non-white people can go around generalizing all whites and saying they hate white people? Shouldn't everyone, no matter what their background and status, always direct their frustration towards people who do bad things, instead of generalizing groups of people?

I would also like to know what the other users think about this. I figure it's somewhere around 10% maybe. Entertainment industry inherently draws LGBT people more, and that goes especially for an industry like k-pop with a heavy focus on dancing, so I sincerely doubt the number is below 5%. I can buy that it's a bit higher than 10%, but not really that every other idol is gay like some might believe. Do some of the users have personal experiences and information about the entertainment industry and the amount of LGBT in it?

So the guy who accused LGBT people of being creepy, and implied we are pedophiles for mentioning minors here, likes lolis and fetishizes lesbians? Who would have thunk! What a classic case of male projection.

I sometimes have to wonder when people are trying to decipher a specific group and their sexualities, like 50-75% of the members according to them ping as gay/bi.

There are definitely gay and bi men in the k-idol industry, that's a given. That's 100%. I'd also say that a lot of the groups, not all, but still a good amount of groups have one gay/bi man, bigger groups might have more. But I'm skeptical of literally all the groups having at least one, if not two or three LGBT members. I... I don't know if I believe that.

Thank God the thread is back to as normal as it has ever been.

Just dropping by to say that Suho seems pretty gay to me most of the time.

And the same with Nu'est's precious little baby, Ren. No matter how many times I try, I still absolutely can't imagine him being with a girl. He reminds me so much of my best friend in high school.

We used to go to the mall and watch the cute guys (and girls for me) together all the time.

Ah, Ren is beautiful. When he used to have long hair, he kind of reminded me of a Chinese model XingYe (when he had long hair himself).

And speaking of XingYe, he and his boyfriend are godlike beauties. Like WOW.

Maybe I'm alone in this but the only '' receipts '' I've found to be anywhere near believable are the ones regarding Sehun, Heechul and Jo Kwon. I'm sure there are some other obvious closet cases, but those are the only ones that have personally stuck with me, and that I find believable.

And you know, three male LGBT idols to me is already a pretty big number lol.

Any other speculations to me have been pretty much a miss, because most of it boils down to '' gays = effeminate '' and taking something that could easily be fanservice as proof of same sex attraction. Not saying they definitely can't be receipts, but I'm personally extreEEEEmely skeptical.

Sometimes I think you guys see a masculine male idol and write him off immediately.

I mean, define masculine. What is masculine in S-Korea might be feminine to westerner's eyes. It's kind of hard to determine whether a guy is masculine or nah, when there could be a steep cultural difference.

Let me rephrase this

Sometimes I think you guys see a male idol you perceive as masculine and write him off immediately

Well yeah, maybe. I definitely don't see people saying that a member pings them as gay because of something masculine they did, that's for sure.

But if South Korea is like Japan in any way, the pursue of muscle, bodybuilding and looking as masculine as you can, for some, pings as gay. When it comes to Korean and Japanese women, extremely muscular and masculine men seem to be a very niche type to have, but not so much with gay men. So for me, when I see an idol who looks more masculine and is building muscle, it does ping me a little.

In the gay world, people often want to look or/and act as masculine as possible, or as feminine as possible, and masc/fem is a pretty defining label. And both of those extremes make my personal gaydar go off.

Also, while there are gays who really build their persona around their masc label, it can also be because they are still struggling to fully accept themselves and they are trying to put up an image of '' not like dem other gays. '' This is not to say masc gays don't exist, they definitely do, but sometimes this masc label and how it dictates your actions and appearance, can still be a defense mechanism and a result of some remnants of self-doubt and inner homophobia.

Not only that, but men who haven't accepted themselves as gay and are deeply in the closet (because of their own choice or not), can also often put up this fake, or at least a more extreme masculine act, to make people be assured of their heterosexuality, especially in the west. This might also translate into Korean culture. And when they try so hard to act a certain way, it can occasionally come off as fake, and if not that, then while they try so hard to cover up their true nature, it can slyly come out here and there when they least expect it, making it extremely noticeable as it goes against the act they have carefully tried to create for the public otherwise.

Like this video of Taylor Lautner (to be fair, I do not know what kind of image he has, but the sassy gay definitely jumped out here)

I think SK is a bit in between the US and Japan. They have much more of a "manliness means this" thing. I think part of it is the emphasis on military, as well as a cultural preference towards physically expressing your emotions more (where Japan very much avoids this).

It's much more normal for men to be thicker and to puff up their arms, legs, shoulders, and chests while Japanese men are happy just to be whatever.

I do think that it's still somewhat suspicious (especially someone as dedicated as Wonho), but I don't think it's nearly to the extent it is in Japan where muscles and facial hair are key signs that a man might be gay.

Oh right, I completely forgot about the whole military thing.

Well, regardless, for IDOLS SPECIFICALLY, it is rather unusual to see them change from the '' ideal '' and embrace a built, buff appearance. Not that is a receipt, but rather just something to keep in mind when assuming that masculine guys don't ping as anything but straight.

And partly for the reasons I've mentioned above, it wouldn't surprise me ONE BIT, not ONE BIT, if Siwon came out one day. I'm not saying he is, but rather it wouldn't SURPRISE ME. He is literally the spitting image of ikahomo, and the IDEAL gay type, like 90% so. Though this is still in Japanese standards, I'm not sure what the ideal type in South Korea is amongst gay men.

if he ends up in relationship with a girl would you guys be surprised?

Fake, beard marriages and relationships are very common in Asia, heck, even with western celebrities.

So on that regard, it doesn't mean much if someone previously thought to be gay by the thread gets seriously involved with a woman. Though out of respect, I'd probably stop discussing their sexuality as they obviously want to conceal it if they are LGBT, but in truth it doesn't necessarily remove the credibility of previous receipts and the possibility that they are gay, or even currently also involved with a man.

And bisexuality exists too.

This was totally out of the blue especially when most of the audience of TOKIO is male, and they aren't the fanservice type of group to begin with! In my wildest dreams though Tomoya is at least bi but I don't think that's the case lmao. During this kiss the drummer looked disgusted though and tried to look away.

I really don't want to go the '' liking this thing is gay '' route, I try hard to not stereotype, but I don't think there is a straight guy explanation to this.

I know what he said. And what I'm saying to you is that those things resonate with fans who may be having weight struggles or pressures from the society they live in.

He's not gonna turn round and say 'Yah, come at me 15 year old BTS tubbies' he's going to say 'I like big (legal age) 'women'' so that some girls feel hope that when they are true adults here's a popstar who doesn't mind big ladies. People go on about these groups gaybaiting and using skinship but have you ever considered that a lot of what they say is to make their female fanbase feel better about themselves?

You'll note that I don't rule out that Jin may indeed genuinely like big women. But I keep an open mind with this stuff. A lot of it is totally froth to sell records. All artists do it.

It does often seem like people forget that these idols are all selling a fantasy to the opposite sex. That is like, 50% of their job.

He's name Nagase Tomoya. Johnny's group V6 member and main vocalist. If you've ever watch a JDrama before you can remember him from some series. Like, My Boss My Hero

They are from TOKIO, not V6, just to clarify.

Didn't Se7en have a whole prostitution scandal? Just goes to show, excessive eyeliner is sometimes just that.

Love that you said this so I can post this:

One of these media personalities/entertainers is gay, and another has a wife and a child (they can still be bi, but regardless).

Ya'll can guess which one is which?

All I'm saying is that stereotypes ain't all they're cracked up to be. But of course, this has been repeated a million times in this thread, but regardless it's good to repeat here and there.

But I'd also like to point out that all the gay Korean youtubers I follow, none of them seem to be excessively into fashion or for that matter makeup. I would honestly love to hear and learn more about Korea's gay culture, because I think having a more indepth knowledge on actual gay people, and the gay culture of Korea, is more helpful in recognizing potential LGBT '' behavior '' to put it bluntly. Often, using western standards is not that helpful, because every culture is unique.

What a fucking shit show. It's bad enough that such laws are in place, but they actually go out of their way to hunt down the gays? Absolutely morbid. Get a grip, SK...

about taeyong being homophobic

i don t believe it but seriously ,sm should really take actions against false acusations

They don't need to take action because I don't believe celebrities get canned for homophobia in SK, and I doubt his fans A) believe the accusations or B) care about them even if it was true, hey, at least he wouldn't be a homo then. Though international audiences are a different thing entirely.

I could be wrong though.

According to that article the homophobic comment would seem to have been no more than a silly joke between friends.

He admits he was young and thoughtless with his actions so I don't know why this shouldn't be an end to it, esp in the media.

I'm more concerned about homophobia within the K-pop industry now, instigated by grown adults (and which prevents idols from being their true selves), than some kid who made dumbass mistakes at school.

It wasn't a silly joke between friends. The bullied victim CRIED FOR AN HOUR before being able to face him and listen to what he has to say. The article trying to paint it like they were friends is complete crud.

I mean let's face it, if SuperM didn't try their darndest to go global, there would be less incentive to call him out on his homophobia. Yet again, SK and Asian market doesn't give a damn about whether someone is homophobic or not. International audiences however... this was a good time to bring the issue out, in all honesty, because he'd HAVE TO address it.

Yep. In the past/west 'queer' was used a lot as a throwaway insult for gay men by ignorant straights.

The definition itself is much broader these days to take into account the way 1. LGBT community has 'claimed back' the word and 2. the spectrum of ways in which people now identify.

For example you might class yourself as bisexual in orientation but asexual from the point of view that you don't physically act on it.

When did this happen? The word '' queer '' is still an extremely sensitive topic.
