do you guys really think wearing pride merch equals support? i'm not trying to be shady and it's a real not hypothetical question, because i always get reminded of that episode of zayn malik wearing a pride bracelet and having fans praising him as he procedes to say he's only wearing it because it was gigi's gift. i'm glaad that brands started recognizing lgbtq as it helped us get places and exist in the mainstream, but isn't it too superficial at the same time?

I think for me, it is always a matter of context. For example, when I see Vernon (Seventeen) wearing pride merch I am pretty confident that he knows what he is wearing and is choosing to. He is aware, has shown spoken support and is always conscious of his fashion choices.

When the whole of iKON started wearing the safety pin earrings (the pin is a representation of being against the discrimination of race, gender, and sexual orientation) a LOT even going so far as to take selfies wearing them, wearing them in photoshoots and bringing attention to them - I knew that this is a choice they have made and something they wanted fans to notice because they had also taken part in the comfort women campaign and the polished man campaign.

When Chaeyoung (Twice) wears LGBT themed clothing, I assume this is a choice she has made as she has been very outspoken with her support of the community and is using her voice to bring attention to LGBT films and other media.

On the other hand, when Hyuk (VIXX) wore the 'All against homophobic racist sexist assholes' sweatshirt under his jacket for an event my first thought was that a stylist had given it to him and neither of them knew what the words implied. When Amber wore the exact same shirt, I knew she had chosen to and was making a statement (obviously)

It depends on the idol, it depends on the context and their previous actions and words. It is not something that can be taken as concrete evidence but rather something that we can use as a discussion point.

im gonna be real - some of y'all are about to be real mad with me but it must be said

We don't know any celebrities sexuality for sure. None. The only way we know is if they themselves come out and say "I am *insert sexuality here*" that is it.
and this is a rare thing for celebrities to do in any country nevermind one as conservative as Korea.
We should never assume that we know and that other people are ridiculous for not seeing it. It is fine to speculate and discuss but to assume fully that we know someone's sexuality when they haven't said it themselves be makin u look like a clown

Jo Kwon, Astro's MJ and Nu'est's Ren are going to be in a musical together. The musical is called 'Everybody's Talking About Jamie' and it is about a 16-year-old boy who overcomes prejudice, beats his bullies and steps out of the darkness to become a drag queen.

The power this has, the intelligence this has, the international implications this has.....

Many people think that the producers refer to one of the biggest ship, Taekook. Another interesting detail is that one of the man who played the leading role had previously played with the real Jungkook. The man who acted with Jungkook in his part in BTS world is the same man who will act as Guk in the series “where your eyes linger “ If you watched the scenes of the two in BTS World, you will remember that there are almost soft BL scenes :)

not everything is about bts yall...

It's really cool that the actor also acted in BTS World but Gook and Tae are 2 incredibly common hanja used in given names and were probably picked because they are two of the easier to pronounce names for foreigners (as the drama is going to air in Japan and on Viki, not in Korea.)

I highly doubt the director was thinking about a BTS ship lol

Not Political? seriously??
It is always political and right now what is happening threatens to erase years of slow progress for LGBTQ+ people in Korea. This is the media and politicians that are using homophobia as a tool.

+ this entire thread

Cha Woong Gi is a member of the rookie group TOO (currently on Road to Kingdom) and he's also appeared in lots of dramas as an actor.  I wanted to talk about him because he's only 18 and has only just debuted as an idol but he's already expressed considerable support for LGBTQ+ ppl and I think that's so admirable
The following posts are from a Q&A he did with fans before his debut.

When someone asked him about what he feels about LGBT people. he said he doesn't care what sexuality you are as long as you dip and don't pour the sauce over your food lolol. Also importantly, He expressed his political views and says he votes for the Green Party as he believes in their policies, this party isn't very popular in Korea as it is very left-wing and is one of the only parties that wants to improve lives for LGBT people and other minorities.

"If you don't love the LGBT community then I don't love you."

It's so refreshing to see someone open with their views and support, he's only 18 but I think a lot of the older idols could learn from him in that respect. We truly love to see it! ❤️

I don't mean to be shippy or weird, but while we are on the topic of Seventeen. I was watching this video and I was quite surprised at how Vernon and Jimin (BTS) interact? like I don't know when or how they became close and Vernon is 3 years younger than Jimin so ???  Jimin seems to pay more attention to Vernon than any of Seventeen's 95 line and that's wild.

The bit where Seungkwan hid Vernon from Jimin like WHAT
Do you guys know anything?

almost 2,500 upvotes this is more than most idol or even dating related articles
this right here is the reason celebrities in Korea don't come out

how does it make sense to be slating someone for not coming out in the same breath as saying 'whats wrong with him' ???

in kpop world are people from the whole Kinsey scale (they are just people), but what we have to see on korean TV/internet are the "normal" people. I think (it's only my personal opinion) the average korean people don't want to see real gay people on tv, but someone who acts gay. in korea everything is only in 2 colours: black and white, and something grey/in between destroys the balance (if you act gay it's only a joke, it's nothing serious). I know it's totally wrong to joke about people and their life (personal & public).

imagine thinking a whole country filled with over 50 million people all think the same way...
There is no such thing as 'kpop world' only non-accepting fans who try to control their idols to fit their fantasies and narrow-minded bigots

I live in Korea now and I've been part of the pride parades here... There are many people who want to see themselves represented and I can assure you nothing in this world is just black and white. People and their thoughts are always going to be a broad spectrum

thanks for the response , but I meant the opposite .. the idols that we speculate to be lgbt watch and recommend heteronormative romantic movies .. and if this indicates that they are probably straight or no ?

Like 97% of all media is heteronormative
LGBT people still consume a lot of heteronormative media as it's the most prevalent and especially in Korea, there is little to none alternative.

I don't think you can say an idol is straight because they have recommended some movies....

I find this clip so interesting - while they are drunk, Johnny's muscles seem to catch Mark's eye so he touches them without thinking and then Johnny seems to shake his head no??
I don't know if there is a reason for it (maybe SM has had words with them all about skinship) or if he's just uncomfortable. The way Mark looks rly embarrassed at the end omg
