I'd guess there's probably more hooking up than actual couples, but it's not implausible for it to happen. They're people you're around every day, being forced to share an intimacy usually reserved for family or lovers due to having to live together. It's not completely improbable you might fall in love with one of them if you're not straight.

I think Hangeng and Heechul were dating. It was more obvious if you looked at Heechul. But I didn't mention that because I only focused on his current relationship, Gunhee.

Hangeng sometimes made me think that he was more open to Heechul, he was more affectionate with idk, that's what I felt on those days. I thought he had a crush on Heechul.

 

I believe that was probably the case, and that it started around 2006. I still don't like to think about it, though.

I've been reading this thread for years, and as a retired professional dancer from Los Angeles (I spent 20 years in the entertainment industry first as a dancer, then choreographer/director) I find some of the posts amusing. I came to kpop around 2006 or so and soon discovered my gayday was ringing off the hook. You must understand, I came out in 1977 when the entertainment industry was about as closeted as South Korea is today, it's very similar. Regular back-up dancers back then didn't have to worry about being in the closet, this area of the business was always out and vocal...but it was fun to find out dirt about performers to see if we were right (today you call it receipts..we called it 'getting the dirt') 

 

When I was a dance teacher, I have been able to spot students would would eventually come out as gay..and this was when they were 8 years old. I would run into them years later and they would introduce me to boyfriends....so my gaydar is pretty well defined. I may, from time to time, share. I know my gaydar is pretty good because I set up a major Hollywood movie star with his first boyfriend..and this star is STILL in the closet. That's his right...I will not divulge who it is.

 

For me, having worked in front and behind camera, I know when things are staged, and when I should pay attention. Normally what catches my eye is not what is said, but how something is expressed. I watch closely for certain mannerisms. Those who wish to ship people within the same group is a fun fantasy, but I doubt it is ever real. As a professional, you don't have sex with cast members, too much drama. You do, however, date other performers outside your group.

 

Anyway, if you wish, I'll try and post my list of who I think is gay or not. You should know that being Gay has little to do with sex partners....but it DOES have a lot to do with who you can romantically fall in love.

It's good to see someone with professional experience in the industry posting here. The bolded parts are things I've also thought for years. Some of them I noticed before I even had a name for them. On occasion, I think back to guys I knew in the past who I thought were "different" in some way (I had no term for anything like a "gaydar" back then) and realize now that, "ah, he was probably gay." The environment I grew up in, being gay was something spoken about in hushed whispers and accusations, so I've always felt for the kids who grow up in places where being closeted is the norm.

I'm asking about what you know of gay culture in Korea, which is entirely relevant to the thread and how we can perceive the idols....

 

I also live in Korea (although I'm a foreigner, I'm a lesbian who's been here for 3 years and is fairly familiar with the gay community), and I can assure you that dominance and masculinity are traits found in and/or sought after in Korean gay men. Jimin could just as easily want to attract men with those traits as he would want to attract women. So seriously, I think you might need to spend some time in the gay community in Korea to get a better sense of what it's like!

 

Us gays are a varied bunch, just like straight people ^^ You might even be surprised how varied dominance/submission and masculinity/femininity can be just within straight couples in Korea!

i only recently started paying attention to kaisoo last year when gay couple rumors came out and k*ist*l happened because their timeline adds up and their moments (look around on tumblr for the backstage/candid moments) are sus, and i don't understand why people hate the ship lol is it because they're popular? 

 

I don't know that much about these two still, but saying they've never had any suspicious moments is just dishonest lol. The weirdest thing to me is that they act much closer when they think they're not being recorded... and if they realize they are, they start looking panicked. It's too strange to brush off as nothing.

And you're right about the "give them a year" thing. What's funny about that is that the official statement from their "confirmed dating" and "confirmed break-up" is EXACTLY a year (March 31, 2016-2017).

One year is pretty standard for a dating contract. Well, I can't be 100% certain it was a dating contract, but based on the progression of events and SM's history (really, the whole entertainment industry does this), it is quite likely.

Mmm... this isn't directed towards anyone in particular, but why does the argument for Kai/Krystal always come down to, "I think they match well?" We only see part of an idol's true personality. How do we know how well or not well two people really match? There can be evidence for sexuality or attraction to someone, but to say "they'd make a good couple," well... that's a lot more difficult to speculate, especially when you don't know said people personally. It's something to be careful of.

Actually that whole account is full of receipts. Literally in every show they go on, the MCs comment (or laugh nervously) about them being like a married couple. One even asked, "Have you two thought about just courageously coming out?" which, yikes you can't just ask that on TV, but still.

 

I'm curious to know more about these two, since I've seen them posted about a few times. I'm gonna check out that account. 

 

If it happens on every show they go on, the nature of their relationship must be somewhat of an open secret, at least within the industry.

Those MCs aren't wrong- things like decorating a house together, managing money together, wills for each other, etc, are certainly things married couples do. There are friends that might do some of those things together, but not all of them. They really do give off that long term couple vibe.

 

But... I feel sad, too. It's obvious they're not accepted by everyone and it does affect them. The way Jaeduk talks about Tony's mother wanting to separate them, or how their relationship makes others uncomfortable, they must go through a lot every day. Why are people so hateful over someone liking a person of the same sex? Are people so miserable that they need to ruin the happiness of others...

Yup, a lot of people are miserable with their lives and try to look down on someone else's life to make themselves feel better. It's better to ignore people like that, and I think these 2 are doing a good job of it? Jaeduk just smiles when people tease them, or call him Tony's wife. I've seen that on many occassions (I've developed an obsession for Sechskies recently :P )

 

Tony tries to save face sometimes, but he's very assertive on NOT living apart from Jaeduk lol :D Moon Hee Jun tried to convince him a lot in that Mom's diary episode and he never budged. He ended up saying he wanted a girl like Jaeduk coz he liked his personality. 

 

And ya, that will thing was so coupley. I mean, I can't imagine saying something like that to a friend (even my best friend). Family comes first in will and all, right? They're so brazen though, which is refreshing. 

 

As for Tony's mom, I was watching a couple of Mom's diary episodes. She doesn't actively seem to hate Jaeduk or anything. She definitely hated their lawyer friend and wanted him out. She was open about that. In an episode, one of the guests openly asked if it wasn't better if they were separated, and she was all like "It's not like they are going to be married even if they do live separately". LOL. 

 

And Jaeduk did say they aren't going to listen to anyone. They are 40 year old, financially stable guys. I don't think what others think bother them much anymore. 

 

The only thing I was confused with, and still am, is that they seem to not be sharing a room together (their rooms are too small to be shared by two people) and they had another guy living with them until recently (their lawyer friend). But that might be a front they put out in broadcasts, so who knows. 

 

They did spend their life savings (according to Tony) remodeling their house. Nothing beats that.  

 

I see, I guess his mother has at least somewhat come to terms with it. I should watch some of those episodes, too.

 

I'm sure they're both steadfast in their decision, but it doesn't mean hearing stuff like "it's wrong" and such doesn't hurt still. I think it's admirable how they support each other, yet there are people who will think it's disgusting just because they're both men. Maybe it's a good thing I don't understand it. I like to see people with such strong feelings for each other.

 

I don't know about their lawyer friend (is he a freeloader or something?), but it's not a bad thing to have separate rooms. Some couples prefer that. You do what works for you.

 

Spending your savings on remodeling a house together is like the most married life thing ever lol. Legit everyone I know who's married and owns a house together does that.

For god's sake, again? Changmin is not homophobic. He didn't like fanservice, didn't like Jaejoong clinging onto him, and he wanted to be his own man and not the group baby, but he's never done or said anything that indicated he wasn't supportive of those around him. I've already gone through this and not doing it again, but I've followed him for years and if he gave any indication that he was truly bothered by anything LGBT, I've never seen it. It's a bit annoying that this keeps coming up.

I don't think a whole group can all be straight/bi/gay. Although SHINee is an interesting group I've been into...

 

I would say Minho is straight, bit still accepting towards others. Onew would be straight, most likely, but bi if he's anywhere on the homosexuality scale. Taemin and Kibum would be gay, almost definitely. Jonghyun, possibly would have been bi, maybe leaning towards guys?

 

And EXO; Sehun pings me - he pings everyone. Junmyeon also pings me a bit too, he does have his moments. Baekhyun is maybe just bicurious, I believe. I think he'll come to recognise his sexuality rather soon, whatever it ends up being. Yixing is definitely straight, along with Kyungsoo, Chanyeol and Jongdae.

 

Minseok is interesting, I'd honestly say he's aromantic, but some things make me think twice. Jongin is also interesting... I believe he's primarily straight, but is capable of developing feelings for a man. He seems like the type, to me, that'd get married to a woman, but realise that it's not what he wants, and leave to seek out a male partner.

 

Just my thoughts, seeing as these two groups have been mentioned a fair bit recently.

Another thing that convinced me about them being together is actually the other members. If you pay close attention to how they react and behave during some moments you can notice that it is like they have an inside joke or something they all know about Jongin and Kyungsoo. In particular Suho and Jongdae. Stuff like this occurs not only in old EXO interviews/shows but also during their recent promotions with The War. Only Kyungsoo's behavior that isn't as open towards Jongin as viceversa makes me doubt, and of course a pinch of realism too LOL, 'cause even though it is statistically possible that LGBT idols exist, doesn't mean Kaisoo is necessarily real. But hey it's fun shipping them because they have some amazing moments.

 

 

 

I don't know why we're talking in spoiler tags, but Suho's reactions alone make me think something's up with them... He's got this look on his face when they even go near each other. It's more suspicious than anything they themselves do.
