I'm just gonna point out something here. Yes, some people probably are trolling with the whole "ultimate bottom" thing, but it's quite commonly used by gay guys as well.

 

The guy you responded to, Mike, is also gay. So are you going to lecture him about learning the proper terms etc?

 

Hanryufan, who used to post a LOT here, and is also gay, has made claims like that about Jaejoong and Heechul as well, for years. 

 

Seriously, let's not take everything so seriously. 

 

Bottom and top are terms used by gay guys, let's not even pretend otherwise. I've lurked on Datalounge before, back when I was a fan of Matt Bomer, and Bottom/Top is one of the first things a gay guy says when they suspect someone's gay. It'd be great if some gay guys chimed into this topic, because this gets discussed a LOT here, and it's seriously derailing the discussion..

Thanks for chiming in!  Yes, I don't see anything wrong with calling someone a bottom, unless there is something wrong with being a bottom (there definitely isn't!). The only people I've seen using "bottom" as a weapon are homophobes, but then again, they are hidden misogynists who think somehow "taking it" makes a person less of a person (read: women). We shouldn't discourage bottom/top discussions in LGBT threads like these. Doing so is somehow bowing down to those homophobes, imo. 

 

I read a post from a person who was talking about hate on bottoms. The only way to combat that hate is to make it a non-issue. As a woman, I don't think there's anything wrong with a gay guy being a bottom, or whatever. Seriously, what they do in their bedroom is not open for judgement, as long as its consensual. 

 

There are people who take it too far, as with anything, but being top/bottom/switch/neither is just another part of a gay person's identity. Trying to force someone into a role based only on appearances and stuff or reduce them to being a certain role is what's wrong. Many straight people probably don't even think of these things because there the expectations are different. Would most straight girls wonder if a guy they're interested in prefers to do the fucking or be the one getting fucked? How about the opposite? Would they consider it of themselves? Most likely not. There's no equivalent for straight people outside of more niche things.

 

I never got the hate on bottoms. Rather I do, but I think it very stupid and it says a lot more about the person doing the hating. And besides, where would we be without them? Bruh, you think I'm brave enough to take dongs up my ass? Think again.

Heechul's over the top behavior with women is one of the many reasons I think he's gay lol. He's never come across someone who's truly interested in women, more like someone who knows what's expected of him and has fun with it. Heechul has said many times before he's someone who likes to play around and that's why he loves doing variety so much. Teasing his female coworkers is another way he has fun. If you actually look at his interactions with girls he's gotten close to, you'll notice that almost all of them treat him like their bff or sister. Women he's worked with have remarked on this many times. Also he literally calls himself "Heechul imo-nim" (Aunt Heechul in English). 

 

I think the reason he has so many female friends isn't because he's a player, it's because he's only interested in being friends. If you look at his older stuff especially, it's very clear he sees women as competition for male attention lol.

Honestly, even though he and BoA are friends, I still can’t say that what I said doesn’t apply anymore. I’m sure his female friends would tease him even more about his ‘femininity’ than his male friends, because it’s a chink in his armor and it’s a reason they feel they can relate to him so easily. 

     Heechul has an enormous network of male and female friends, so it makes sense that women would feel more comfortable with him— he’s survived so long with getting into zero scandals, and rumors won’t occur because he’s already familiar with so many women.

The reason why I don't have a girlfriend, should I stop gaming to find a girlfriend or should I find a girlfriend to stop gaming. Sounds like Heechul is lamenting over the fact that he doesn't have a girlfriend at that point in time, or is even in a period of low libido.

     Heechul, Hani and Bora slept in the same bed when they were on a show together. Knowing how Heechul is given an exception (exemption from judgement, almost) related to many Korean social/cultural norms, is it THAT big of a stretch that this happened?

Heechul has overdone the "I don't have a girlfriend thing" for years. He talks about getting a girlfriend and getting married to the point that it's suspicious, yet has never shown interest in women despite being surrounded by them. Why do you think he has no scandals with women and other companies' staff even encourage their own female artists to hang around him? Even if he's careful, you can't stop feelings from developing and that's already a risk. Why would any company take that? They know there's no risk of him getting into a scandal with women probably because he's not interested in them. Or that time Solbin asks him directly and he doesn't deny it.

 

No guy is going to let himself be called by a female term unless he's really comfortable with it and the girls wouldn't even consider it unless they were very comfortable with him. Again, he's literally called himself Aunt Heechul- he enjoys being thought of as a mentor to female idols (and not straight ones, but that's another story) and treats them like siblings (he's referred to them as "my dongsaengs" before). And part of why Heechul has experienced gay rumors is because he hasn't had substantial rumors with women and has said/done questionable things with men many times.

 

I already knew the full quoted context, but it was unimportant so I only posted the relevant bit. Again, Heechul brings up the girlfriend/marriage thing constantly. He still lives in a very conservative society where his career (and Super Junior's) would be affected if he actually did come out. And as you pointed out in your post, he cares a lot about his career. As long as he says wants a girlfriend or wants to get married and there's no damning evidence of him being gay, speculation is only that. People seem to think that because Heechul is blunt, straightforward, and critical that he is always telling the truth when he speaks. He can and does lie.

 

Oh, and about the bed thing, uh, YES? That his management and the show's producers even allowed this is quite... hell, Heechul has commented before that Bora "has the type of body men like." Again, Heechul can get away with it... there's no risk involved.

 

 

As for the articles, the first is mistranslated somewhat. He was discussing SuJu members all calling dibs on a girl they like so they don't overlap. There's not much to it.

 

Now, he's the thing- I've never said that Heechul has never dated a woman. Surprisingly, a lot of gay guys date women before figuring out they don't like women. I don't think that it's impossible he did the same. Would explain why he talked about dating women with such blatant disinterest in the past and why they all dumped him for it, but I don't think he's done so since. If he believed he was interested in women at the time, it'd make sense he'd ask about dealing with a scandal. 

 

 

And as for X-men, well, not only is he already twisting it into himself being pretty at the end (he was very adamant about being prettier than women then), but he's playing the "Of Course" game there. We all know Heechul never lost that game.

Anyway: I just really really love when newer Idol groups include both genders of their fans:

I honestly felt left out in many cases with some groups. I mean of course fan girls are the vast majority, but only talking about "my wifes", "my girls" and so on felt a bit sad...

 

I agree, we should discuss bisexuality and such here too. It's hilarious with Heechul though because it's like we've already agreed he likes men so now we're debating whether or not he actually likes women. It's a complete reversal from what we normally do.  

 

I've noticed that idol groups include both guys and girls when talking about their fans and I like that. It's already kind of weird to be a male fan of a male idol group because it's 99% women. 

 

When i think of heechul with a girl all i can do is laugh, he can even be straight (i doubt so much, but is not impossible lol) or bi.

But just Imagining him with a girl sounds very funny to me.

I can feel the akwardness from miles away.

also, you need to take into account just how much internalized homophobia and heteronormativity is embedded in the LGBT community. there's so many bisexual men who say they sleep with men but only date women. why do so many bisexual men find it impossible to see other men as potential romantic partners? i agree that some bisexual men genuinely prefer women as romantic partners but i doubt that most bisexual men would have this preference naturally lol. when there's an obvious pattern that shows up, it's best to think about these things critically and how society can affect someone's sexuality and not accept it as "oh, they're just bisexual heteroromantic! it's totally normal!"

 

the reason why i have such a problem with the split-attraction model is because i literally grew up thinking i was "homosexual heteroromantic" and thought it was a normal identity. i realized i was sexually attracted to men but i had so much internalized homophobia that i genuinely thought i could never fall in love with another man. i'm 21 and i finally accepted that i was gay just last year! and i would've accepted myself a lot sooner if it weren't for the split-attraction model that allowed me to suppress my true self.

Congrats on accepting your inner gay. What you wrote about bisexuality is interesting and I think there is some merit to the connection. Hell, for a long time, I never had a problem with gay couples yet it was very weird to picture myself in a loving relationship with a guy. I went back and forth on whether or not I also like men for years and those were a very confusing couple of years. These days, I realize if I like someone, sex/gender doesn't matter, but it wasn't always like that. I'm grateful to live in an age of the internet because I'm not sure I would have figured it out on my own. That said, you do have to beware of some of the more controversial stuff about sexuality online because it could end up pushing you farther from the truth, as it happened in your case. Sometimes, they're helpful, but other times, they're not. We're a long way from having a tried and true science about human sexuality.

 

I've always been interested in learning more about asexuality, where this split-attraction model originated from, but it's hard to find people who are ace...

Yes, Of Course is evidence because he was so obviously flirting with her. How can you say him saying that he’s pretty is evidence against that? Being a ‘pretty-boy’ is his asset to attracting woman, and he was using it (as he has used in other interactions). He didn’t need to take that approach. He could have won the game easily by simply insulting her, as he did with the previous older woman.

     And what about the War of Words video? Lying?

     What about the articles where Heechul is talking about his girlfriends? And it was a mistranslation, you say, that Heechul said “If I get a girlfriend, I tell my members. It’s to make sure that I don’t overlap with them.â€?

     What about the Golden Fishery and Heechul Can’t Be Tamed videos I showed, where Heechul talks about girlfriends and what attracts him about women?

Lastly: you know how honest Heechul proclaims himself to be and how much he doesn’t give a shit for people’s opinions. I've followed Heechul for years and literally none of what you've said is new to me. I'm going to make this brief because you seem to have already made up your mind completely and there would be little point to continuing the discussion in circles.

 

The quote- again, unimportant. I disagree with your conclusion of it. Do you really believe sticking in the word "girlfriend" everywhere makes him straight?

 

In the Of Course game, he also insulted the poor girl by asking "are you happy to be in the same [weight] class as Ho Dong?" but anyway, I think you have a serious misconception about flirting. You can flirt with someone without being attracted to them at all. I do it constantly. People do it back. Completely harmless, completely meaningless. Heechul flirts and teases because he has a playful personality, especially on variety. You can't seriously believe he's interested in every person he flirts with. By that logic, all of kpop is bisexual with the amount of playful teasing and flirting going on.

 

Again, Heechul is blunt and straightforward, but the fact is, he is a Korean idol. By the nature of his job and society he lives in, he cannot speak or act completely freely. What's the easiest way for any idol to divert gay rumors? Talking about girls or past girlfriends. Some even do contractual dating. Idol life is built on lies. And again, it is possible he dated a woman in the past, but so do many gay men before realizing they are gay.

 

If you want to think he's bi, that ain't my business, but I'm not sure why you're so adamant about convincing everyone of it. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

For me, it was more when people would label him or talk about him like he was the epitome of gaydom. We don't need to describe him as bisexual, but we also don't need to pretend that bisexuality doesn't exist and that Heechul doesn't have the POTENTIAL (signs seeming significant to some of us) to be bisexual and interested in women.

Suho does gives vibes, but not quite as strong as I expected, which was a little surprising. Maybe he's more cautious than I thought.

 

Xiumin was more surprising because he pings quite a lot in person. The way he dances alone is a massive flag. He either acts really cute or really sexual on stage and I had a hard time thinking much of anything tbh. He looks fucking unreal. Worth it yo.

 

Baekhyun... he likes the attention he gets from both men and women. He looks like he likes to pretty himself up and flaunt what he's got. Yet he's also got this... softness to him? Some kind of delicacy that makes you want to protect him. Yeah, he doesn't care if it's a guy or girl lol.

 

 

Chanyeol/Kai/Kyungsoo stuck together quite a lot. Same with Suho/Chen/Baekhyun. Sehun and Xiumin... they did their own thing lol.

Seriously I have no idea how I would react if I would be able to see him. Closest guess for now is I'd just stand there unable to move jaw dropped and finally passing out because I would most likely forget how to breath.

 

Anyway, to not to be totally off topic. Xiumin is definitely not straight. I just can't see that happening. I would also be a little suprised for him to be totally gay as well, because he seems like a guy who doesn't give a shit about the gender of the person, if he likes someone, he likes someone no matter what kind of genitals that person has. I really feel like he might be pan. It feels weird to see people thinking that he's straight right away without giving it a second thought lol.

 

He acts the same around both girls and guys as well, and I've seen that little tinkle of interest in his eyes when he talks and interacts with people he seems to admire, both male and female.

 

And when someone suggested that he might be asexual using the above as an example....  bruh. no.

 

Yeah, that's basically what happened. I stood there like a slack jawed dumbass and I think only the crowd was holding me up at one point. I did not expect that to happen, it was completely involuntary. I've never reacted like that because of another person before. It was so embarrassing when I came to my senses... 

 

And about Xiumin, I agree. He's seemed bi/pan to me since I started following him. But, many people who have said he's straight have admitted to not following him closely and Xiumin isn't as obvious as someone like Baekhyun or Sehun, so that might be a reason.

Xiumin really loves to tease Chen, I've noticed. It's so funny tbh, if I was Xiu I'd probably do the same if I got the same awkward reaction every time. Reminds me of the interview when Xiumin was proudly introducing Chen as his wife while Chen was looking at him like he's out of his mind saying that infront the camera.

 

Chen's 'what the fuck' face after Xiumin declares Chen's like his wife never fails to make me laugh. He sat there for like a full five seconds processing what was just said.

Nah... Xiumin and Chen were close before, it was just harder to notice because they were more reserved about showing it... and also because of the aforementioned Xiumin sasaeng in the group. Maybe he makes friends with men more easily, but I don't think Xiumin needs a close male best friend any more than anyone else. His relationships with Chen and Luhan were very different.
