Article: Kim Jae Woong's coming out, the misdirection of the producers

Source: TV Daily via Nate

Viewers are expressing discomfort over the way fashion designer Kim Jae Woong was 'forced' to come out on the TV show 'Share House'.

Fellow cast members suspected that he was gay over his feminine actions and Lee Sang Min cornered him after he came home from an outing with another female by asking questions like, "Be honest, do you like men? or women?" Ever since the pilot episode, Lee Sang Min and the cast members had told him, "You need to change your voice to be more masculine."

Kim Jae Woong answered back, "Whether I just met my girlfriend or a close nuna, what does it matter to you?"

The members then said, "We would be curious about this whether it was you or another member. You're just being overly sensitive."

Kim Jae Woong then left the house to have some time to himself. The members asked each other, "Were we too harsh?"

After coming back, Kim Jae Woong confessed, "I'm the same man as Sangmin hyung, Sung Joon hyung, and Ho Young hyung but there's one difference between me and them and it's that I like men. I've always been asked by others 'what am I' since I was little. I am not a monster."

1. [+386, -6] That is in no way a voluntary coming out at all. He was forcefully outed on TV.

2. [+367, -9] I'm sure it was scripted but I am suspicious of the producer's intentions. This was not a voluntary coming out. This was forced.

3. [+341, -13] Even as a viewer, I could tell that he was gay (by his actions) so I'm sure that the cast members living with him had a clue. I can't believe that they acted clueless and cornered him with questions like that until he was forced to confess. Another article said that they all already knew he was gay, then what was the point of forcing him to say it publicly?

4. [+30, -0] He was forced to come out of the closet. This was not voluntary.

5. [+22, -2] Both the cast and the producers are in the wrong... They could've kept it to themselves and asked him off cameras. They knew cameras were rolling, why make someone feel so uncomfortable?

6. [+14, -0] He's not even a celebrity, why force him to come out like that on TV...........

7. [+11, -2] They're so rude... How can you ask questions like that so directly. How immature can they be?

8. [+6, -0] I hope he's not hurt through this ordeal. He said it bravely and I hope he doesn't regret it. Supporting Kim Jae Woong as a viewer of Fashion Runway Korea!

OMGGG i feel so bad for him..... but at least he is not getting hate :D and i hope he gets many supports from this and finally not live a life of hiding

I wonder if people are only on his side because he was forced to come out. If he came out willingly I think the responses would be different.

I don't really see Chanyeol as bi or gay  :derp:  :derp:

Also, people use ships way too much to "prove" someone's sexuality. Interactions between two people are not enough, and are often exaggerated or seen as something more than they actually were.

You can all have your own opinions,  thats how it should be.  But, take it from a gay man,  Jae is gay.  He is a good actor and can act with women in his dramas.   He may never 'come out' but I can assure you, he's gay.

I don't think people know how boners work... you can get a boner if someone is rubbing against you even if you are not attracted to them. I mean there are people who cum when they are raped, but that doesn't mean they liked it. It's how the body works T.T

Well I'm sorry too, but I pity the woman that marries a 'straight' guy as feminine as Heechul

The fuck is wrong with you.

I feel the need to rant. Men can be traditionally masculine and men can be traditionally feminine. Their sexuality does not matter. A man is not a real man if only he is masculine and what not. I'm tired of people being closed minded and not moving away from old and repressive gender-roles. Being feminine is not a bad thing nor is it an insult. Women are also not black and white and may prefer a feminine guy *gasps*. Seriously the priorities of some people smh.

I also don't like some people here saying he looks femme/like a femme. I find that to be offensive, not because being a woman is bad (lol) but because it seems like you are treating said idol as a woman just because you think he is gay. I would love to hear some feedback about this from a gay/bi/pan guy.

I agree with everything you said in the other post, but metrosexual is used to describe men who take care of themselves, not men that are feminine. There are a lot of words to describe men who are feminine (but most of those words are considered offensive).

But isn't a feminine men a guy who has (traditional) female traits aka taking care of their appearance, liking to shop and so on? Oh wait, does it not sound like your stereotypical gay guy?

"The term is popularly thought to contrast heterosexuals who adopt fashions and lifestyles stereotypically associated with homosexuals, although, by definition given by the originator (see below), a metrosexual "might be officially gay, straight or bisexual.""

Taking care of your appearance â‰  feminine, in my opinion.

But isn't it considered a feminine trait? It's just silly to me that they came up with a term to describe men that take care of themselves lmao. Almost as bad as bromance.

So off topic. I'm sorry.
