I personally can't really trust these interactions 100%, especially since idol trainee in places like Korea or Japan really taught everything from the way they act to the way they interact, and they are very serious about it. It won't surprise me if some seemingly apparent personalities also scripted. It may be unbelievable, but idols or even actors/musicians rarely have any freedom to even act spontaneous even in variety shows, where everything is scripted to death(I was told once by a Japanese friend that in typical Japanese variety shows even the random jokes or funny quips are scripted, right to the laughter parts too) and only on some rare occasions they deviate a bit from the scripts, but maybe that'd only be allowed if you're a big star or a senior MC like Yoo Jaesuk. And don't even start about the fan-captured interactions on award shows or any music shows- I'm skeptic about the fanservice-y interactions too esp when it comes to ships- idols are not living under rocks, sometimes even their agencies made them aware which ships are popular and maybe they even told these idol pairs to do some lovey-dovey skinships as fanservice. Ofcourse an idol can do several fanservice with several people, can't feed just one ship after all. So anyway, after living in Asia for so long and spending my time here, I also have come to realization that for these asian idols- be it Japanese or Korans or even Chinese or Thai- gay-baiting fanservice is like the real-life version of yaoi anime and manga. Think of it as roleplaying the yaoi anime&Manga by real people. It's made to be consumed by shippers, and their shippers are mostly female yes. 100% Agree but i have a different opinion about it. Yes, its gay fanservice, many straight idols will do gay fanservice. But isnt that what entertainers do ? Youtubers also say and act what subscribers want. Fanservice/Baiting is what most successful entertainers do. I like that about Kpop idols. I like that they also do some gay fanservice and dont just ignore me as a gay fan. It would be much worse if they act like gay fans dont exist and say something like "stop liking me this way, i am straight, dont bring it up, dont show me a heart, dont say i am beautiful because you are guy like me, fanboys who are gay are weird." THAT WOULD BE THE OTHER WAY and i am superhappy that they do gay fanservice (even when they are straight) and make me feel like they WANT me as a gay fan to stan them, and that i can feel they make an effort to win me over by doing some gay stuff. Of course, its a problem to tell who is really gay , who is bi and who is straight. Thats the problem but i can live with that. Agree. The way people shove shipping into their faces, I do believe they’re very much aware of the impact fan service has. On fans, on merchandise sales. Keeping young girls and boys swooning. Interested. We are talking about the people who have been trained in this subject since they stepped into the company. They now how to play. We all know what a major part fan service plays in kpop/Jpop, and if you think they’re not groomed and totally aware of what buttons to press, you’re delusional. Therefore, it is the most logical approach to know that 99% of the closeness in front of the cameras or on the stage, in front of hundreds of thousands of fans are fan service. It is really hard to find really sincere ones among all these games. Yes, and i want them to press my buttons. I love that about Kpop Idols. They take my fan feelings seriously, they work hard to win me over again and again. i feel they really want me and seduce me, unlike other artists from europe/usa who are usually less entertaining and doing less fanservice. And Yes, it has become impossible to tell apart whats really gay and whats gay fanservice. How ironic, that the real gay idols can stroke and touch and hug members of their group, and i will go "oh well, its in front of a cam so its probably just fanservice." And this gay idol is thinking "haha the fans cant tell it apart from fanservice. Even my members dont know. This is FUN!" Their female fans might i add? Idk man, imo, i hate it when idols do this kind of stuff because it's clear baiting and attention seeking other than the fact that they're being dishonest. I only like fanservice when it's obvious that both of them act the same way on and off stage, when it's not fake you know Entertainment is usually illusion and make-belief. Thats normal. TV is often scripted and Youtubers say what you want to hear. Do you think everything Idols say is their real private opinion ? Of Course not. They say and do what fans want to hear/see. Idols create beautiful fantasies for their fans. Thats good in my opinion. It doesnt bother me if straight idols do fanservice to please fans. Pleasing fans is their job and i love that Kpop Idols take it so seriously and do so much intense fanservice, for example gay fanservice. They are so hardworking to create the Fantasies that fans are looking for. A straight guy who is so open-minded that he will playfully do gay stuff is a true professional. I am thankful.i can watch my bias have a gay moment with another member. I am also thankful when straight actors play gay characters in movies. Thats also "fake only to please the viewers" but its Entertainment, the actor creates a wonderful experience / fantasy for viewers and it sends a positive message about LGBT. The first and foremost customer is always the female demographic, and the female demographic screams for straight guys playing gay. Even if that is true, what is the problem ? female fans enjoy it. Gay Fanboys enjoy it. I think they do it as much for female fans as they do it for gay fanboys. Remember, there are more gay people on planet earth than most people think. Gay Men are usually making good money and can buy lots of merch so they are a good fanbase. I think Kpop Idols make A LOT of money and have A LOT of gay fans, because they do gay fanservice. Sounds like a happy win-win-win situation for idols, female fans and gay fanboys. The whole world loves exploiting lgbt culture by dipping its hetero toes in it for personal use, but lgbt people are still shoved aside even within this supposedly accepting framework i dont think they are exploiting lgbt, they just give fans the fantasies that fans want. They do a good job as entertainers/idols. Its not the idols fault that societies still shove lgbt aside. So Feel Free to enjoy their Gay Fanservice ! Girls are fueled with the fantasy of 'marrying' their oppa from the actions and words of said idol, that's not good. It's just a fantasy. These little girls will be eternally crushed when their oppa marries someone other than them. That is harmful tbh. i dont think its a problem. Entertainment is fantasies for fans. i watch a movie, i enjoy the movie even though its scripted and i know its not real. It was made as a fun entertaining fantasy. I am happy that i found Kpop Idols who work so hard and do gay fantasies for me, that make me very very happy. I know that many of them are probably straight and its not real (just like a movie) but i enjoy it and i am thankful. They could just ignore gay actions and do only straight stuff but they go all the way and i am thankful they give me a lot of homosexual moments to enjoy. AND some of them are surely gay. Its just hard to find out who. lol. Yep- People love to say "they're not robots, surely some genuine feelings can spill every now n then" well then you have no idea how serious asians can be when it comes to perfecting their crafts- in that situation they're practically playing the soft-core version of 'gay for pay'. Yes, and thats why they are so awesome and professional. they will go all the way to craft the Greatest most Awesome Fantasy for me. I am thankful for that. The West cannot compete with this awesome hard work attitude. Also, don't know if I sound a bit too harsh here- but personally I'm feed up with the ent industry, esp the asian ones, for using non-straight culture to satiate their fetish, yet they reject LGBTQ in real life. imo the tendecy to do gay-baiting in shows etc- yes even the west does it too- is a form of exploitation. I think its unfair to hold that against idols. Idols just do great fanservice and provide gay content which is very open-minded and accepting of gay fans who love them or girls who like to watch them make out with each other. Idols are very open-minded to the fans fantasy wishes and its a good thing. Its not their fault that the society rejects LGBT content. just my opinion. peace. (there is NO war against straight people, so yes people support Holland but its not like they support him more than straight people. They are open-minded and love everyone.) So you cannot get more fans / support by being openly gay. Holland gains no additional fans for being gay. On the other hand, people who hate on gay will hate Holland. Unfortunately, South Korea is quite conservative and still view homosexuality as a problem. So haters only support straight and NOT gay celebrities. Holland loses them. So being openly-gay UNFORTUNATELY results in losing fans but not winning anymore LGBT fans. Sad World we live in. On top of that, straight Idols will do gay fanservice (crossdressing, kissing, stroking, hitting on each other with remarks) making them fulfill most fanservice that gay fans / LGBT fans want. So another problem of Holland is, that straight people can act gay easily.... taking away the unique trait of a gay celebrity. (if they wouldnt do that, Holland could do this as his unique trait and gains fans for it.) Yeah... it seems being honest doesnt get you more fans, it makes you lose fans. Sad World ! Ex-member of Beast Hyunseung (on the right, blonde hair) who was always suspected of being bi or gay during his time in Beast) and Ex-JYP solo singer Se7en (shirtless) they hang out together all the time. Dont know if that means anything but IF Hyunseung is gay (as rumors implied), it might. Pure speculation, though.
