Which male idols do you think are gay?

you're clearly an american aka a gyopo. your korean is really awkward.

So since you've "enlightened" us about the straights, please tell us more about what it's like to be LGBT in Korea, at least. This IS a gay thread. Where do you live? Do you have gay friends? Have you at least been to Homo Hill? Edited by goyangiprince

i'm sorry i just re-read my *first* comment on this thread and there's nothing rude about what i said. i offered MY opinion and MY take like everyone else.  it was YOU and the others that got triiiggered and spammed this thread with 100 same replies about how masculine =/ straight.

So again, in response, i tried to educate you on how the cultural context plays a role here when i said Jimin wants to look masculine and dominant. I kindly corrected your westernized LGBTQ centric view. that in korea, those don't exist. that you can't project those concepts onto these boys. it just doesen't work.

It was you and the others that derailed this thread and came at me like a bunch of butthurt lunatics. lol

If you want to ask me about korea, message me. this thread is about the idols.

I'm asking about what you know of gay culture in Korea, which is entirely relevant to the thread and how we can perceive the idols....

I also live in Korea (although I'm a foreigner, I'm a lesbian who's been here for 3 years and is fairly familiar with the gay community), and I can assure you that dominance and masculinity are traits found in and/or sought after in Korean gay men. Jimin could just as easily want to attract men with those traits as he would want to attract women. So seriously, I think you might need to spend some time in the gay community in Korea to get a better sense of what it's like!

Us gays are a varied bunch, just like straight people ^^ You might even be surprised how varied dominance/submission and masculinity/femininity can be just within straight couples in Korea!

I'm actually very curious about this...

whAT IS THAT CREEPY GIF

anyways I don't think it's anything revolutionary or that you wouldn't see anywhere else, but it is a little more popular in Korea than in other places. Like, the "normal" image of dominant men/submissive women is still pushed by society, but there's a good chunk of people who don't fit that. You already know androgyny is a little more popular in Korea than in other places, so the masculine/feminine line can be pushed sometimes. I would also say that there's a good number of men who prefer dominant traits in women, and women who like like soft, cutesy men lol. I mean you can see the dominant/submissive flip sometimes in like dramas and such, and we see it through kpop fans all the time (especially when it comes to what flower boys become popular lol).

And I mean, there's always the more kinky femdom scene, which is bigger than you might think on Korean twitter....ã…‹ã…‹

"Western progressive gay culture" = general public throwing around "NO HOMO" "this is soooo gay" the F word. And gays fighting to stop people from using it to make people more aware.

i'm just talking about the US.  gay related jokes and gays existing are constantly in people's minds. LGBT issues are one of the most prevalent social issues along with racism. these have been built upon for several decades and sipped into the general public's consciousness.

koreans don't have this context.  like at all. NADA.

my students literally make jokes about being gay all the time??? "oh they're gay" "they're a couple" "teacher, they're lesbians" when their classmates are being skinshippy. Also, the "wow how can I say this to a man" ect u mentioned is basically the Korean version of no homo, lmao. I think that in and of itself shows that the idea of gay IS in people's minds sometimes. And all throughout kpop, half of fanservice is built on the LOL GAY joke. the pepero game, the paper passing game, making idols act drama scenes with each other, ect ect.

but at the same time, yes, not everything we might immediately think "gay" for is seen in korean culture as gay. it IS slightly more in the back of people's minds than in the west. but I think we DO try and take this into consideration here, no need to be so rude about it.

Also, don't discredit the LGBT activists in Korea! They've been working hard, the community is growing, the Pride parade is growing (not just in Seoul, there was one in Busan and Daegu? I think this year too!), and more and more people are starting to live openly gay. Things are changing in Korea at the speed of light compared to America.

ANYWAYS I'm done, but I still recommend getting to know the gay community in Korea more, dude

So I was watching a fancam of Taemin performing at Seoul Fashion Week (lets not even get into how androgynous and avant-garde Move is) when I spotted a cute lil fanboy with his mouth LITERALLY HANGING OPEN.

The fancam I watched at first was kinda blurry so all I could make out was that the guy was good looking and S H O O K, but I checked the comment section and someone mentioned that Weki Meki was there. I figured maybe the fanboy was also an idol. Turns out I was right. And it's not just any male idol. It's gay icon Hyungseob.

He pops into view at 0:25. He looks a lil Thirsty when Taemin turns around at 1:58. His jaw drops at 2:16 and remains open for the rest of the performance 0u0plz.png

Doesn't indicate anything about Hyungseobs sexuality per se, just wanted to appreciate this full blown Taemin fanboy.

my friend sent me a screenshot like "lol look at this boy who got shookt" and I THOUGHT he looked like Hyungseob omg. he has no idea how to control his gay and it's amazing I love him so much

I saw this on Twitter and didn't really think much of it, because I just thought "oh he's probably just annoyed", but he posted it on his Instagram as well which I found kinda funny because it seems like he's trying to drive the point home:

I'm pretty sure he's using some app that's been going around w/ idols where they lipsync to random quotes, like the one that was popular in America a bit ago (dubsmash?)

but still, it's an interesting choice haha

Do you really think Kai and Krystal broke up exactly after one year later? Do you think when they finished their relationship called SM and they said "hey, we broke up", and immediately they reported the news to the media? They probably broke up before (rumors said they broke in February) and then SM, because mediaplay, did the statement exactly after a year. What I mean is we can't assume Kaistal weren't real just because those dates. I know we can't trust agencies, but they could be dating, who knows

Also, the Exordium dot concert was announced on March 30th and they dropped the breakup news on March 31st lmaooo SM ain't slick. they wanted to make sure Kai was ~available to fans~ at the concert, especially with him stripping every 0.2 seconds onstage.

(and technically the dating news was released on April 1st 2016 Korea time, anyways.)

I've said it before, but I really don't think Kaistal was that crazy a pairing to believe is true. similar personalities and interests, they've known each other for ages, same age, ect. and while we've seen hints they might be attracted to the same gender there's no reason either or both of them couldn't be bi.

Soooooo we just got this blind item:

"Blind Item #7 - AMA
One of the biggest male groups in K-pop has two members who are closeted. Well, they could have more than two, but these two were trying to stay hidden in corners this weekend at a bar as they canoodled with their respective American boyfriends."

oh man there were so many kpop boy groups at the AMAs HOW WILL WE EVER KNOW WHO THIS IS

I dont mean to be rude or something, but usually is no need of words for your so called one night boyfriend......

It's probably bullshit, but if it's not this is what I figured lol, that it was more of a hookup deal and not literally boyfriends. A couple of them at least know enough english to get into someone's pants.

But yeah it does not seem like the smartest move lol so hopefully it's not true. At the same time I could see where they might feel more comfortable hooking up in America compared to Korea, so...*shrug*

Any other opinions on NU'EST W?

I've read opinions about them before and the general consensus would be:

Ren - Gay. I don't think I have seen anyone state anything but gay for him.

JR - Possibly gay. Mostly due to that Japan trip, I guess. Not to sure about him.

Baekho - Mixed views. He does have a manly muscular image but I've seen people comment that he may be gay or bi

Aron - least talked about. Mostly straight

These are pretty much my thoughts as well. Even outside of JRen, JR seems pretty gay to me though. He's less flamboyant than Ren lol but he pings just as much. Baekho, I don't know what it is but there's something that feels not entirely straight about him...but then Aron on the other hand, feels super straight despite loving to give fanservice and ridiculous aegyo and everything. I can't tell you why though >.< (also, Minhyun seems pretty bi to me)

Hey everyone. I've been absolutely heartbroken since last night, like we all are ;; Knowing that this was a cause Jonghyun would definitely support, I've made a small donation to DdingDong LGBTQ Youth Crisis Support Center here in Korea. They are both a safe house and a counseling center, I encourage you to check them out.

There is an English option on their website, and also here is a direct link to their donation page. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/rainbow-teen-safe-space/

If you would like to join me in donating, please look for the "Make your donation in honor of someone" option when you check out. Thank you.

Yeah, they'll bury it. They'll never say why he was depressed.

Depression is affected by all kinds of different things, please don't boil it down to just this one issue (that we don't even technically know about). He talked openly about his struggle with hate, overworking, perfectionism, loneliness.....depression is a cruel beast that can affect every part of you ;;

Yes, I do know. I was depressed an suicidal as well. But fact remains that, if there really were something that stands out, we'll never get to hear it, and that's what I meant. I'm the last person who'll diminish his pain, and I didn't think my post came off like that.

That said, I'm not in the state of mind to go back and forth right now, or get involved in any discussion like I usually do, so I better take a break from this thread.

I understand, I'm sorry. Please take all of the time you need <3

I have an update from DDing Dong, They thanked us for the donations ♡ If you can still donate, please do ♡

DDing Dong sincerely appreciates the fans that who have supported us under the name of 'SHINee Jonghyun'.

We are sorry to share such heartbreaking and tragic news that SHINee member Jonghyun left us suddenly. Nevertheless, there were fans who have supported DDing Dong through Global Giving. Within two days of December 19 and 20, we have received more than $4,000 in total from 173 fans a around the world. The sudden news is indeed heart-aching, however we think it is a surprise gift from Jonghyun who cared about others more than anyone.

Jonghyun meant a lot to DDing Dong as he once raised his voice about the discrimination that LGBTQ individuals suffer in Korea. Also, this support comes to a very special meaning to DDing Dong as it encourages LGBTQ fans of Jonghyun who are grieving for the passing of Jonghyun.

We will make sure to use the fund received under the name of Jonghyun for homeless LGBTQ individuals.

As Jonghyun once supported LGBTQ individuals mentioning 'Difference is not wrong, I do support you'. We hope that the great artist, Jonghyun will stay in our hearts forever.

You did well, Jonghyun.

Interviews with Koreans on the street about LGBT  (Holland)

Whoa, interesting. I'm glad that people generally seemed to be understanding, even more than I would have expected. the one guy who pointed out it's no different from hetero kisses and was like "idols are heterosexual or, well, at least they say they are" WOW HE GETS IT

Also, I don't follow these guys and I didn't see the original video, but I'm happy to see that they used it as a learning experience after they were uncomfortable initially.

This would explain why there's not much in terms of substantial receipts for Joshua, and why he's always kinda "no-homo", despite him pinging so many people... kinda makes me think "gay dude in denial / repressing because of his heavily religious background". Although, I mean, I hope he's good, but man... religion can be so weird.

I don't recall any moments of Joshua being overly no homo tbh?? maybe I missed something but I don't remember him saying anything or reacting badly. He's just not very skinshippy or fanservicey in general (although interestingly, he used to be much more skinshippy predebut, especially with Jeonghan...they got very close initially because they came in at the same time)

but yeah while he's always pinged the hell out of me the only receipts I can ever give are that he looks at jeonghan like he fuckin hung the stars in the sky and has since they met orz

Well Joshua recently said this so maybe he's trying to get away from all that, and maybe define himself how he wants to?? I hope I'm making sense.

There's def been a change in him since a little before Clap era.

There's also the fact that he's extremely private and rarely hangs out/spends time with anyone that isn't his members.

I definitely agree, I think he's trying to finally shed his responsible church oppa image....I think he spent a long time playing along with it, whether it was because it was what the company, or his parents, or even what he thought the fans wanted, idk, but these days he's even drinking and cursing (gasp!)

And you're right, he's a very private person in general although he apparently keeps in touch with other foreigners (Amber just mentioned him! but she's friends with everyone lmao)

just for fun here's him "sexy" dancing with Minghao and shocking everyone at the fanmeeting lmao (it was a punishment lol)

Finally some real talk.

Vernon pinged me the most in predebut with him being hella clingy and that moment where his hand "slipped" and he grabbed boos you know what /side eyes/

After he seemed to mature? I guess and Is very aware of his surroundings / image so of course it looks like boo is always the one clinging after him when that's not the case.

I always question him and coups but everyone swears they are straighter than a ruler.

Only recently people questioned coups because of his line in that song but not of all the other shit he does. The jeonghan narrative has got to go tbh. I do see him having some type of thing for jeonghan but saying he is only gay for one person because ( girly, femme, etc) is BS.

Seventeen has some very questionable members and receipts but they get passed off as straight oppas who just do fan service which is just ridiculous.

you'd think the ~only gay for jeonghan bc he's girly~ thing would have stopped since jeonghan cut his hair (and has hardly ever acted overly feminine to begin with).....he's "manly" now and scoups is still all over him so, you know, kinda proves that theory wrong haha

also, I definitely always question vernon. he's an interesting guy...I really wonder what's going on with him and seungkwan constantly

Eunki covering girl groups because he's the best boy (also I love how much the rest of Rainz hypes him up, especially at the end of the Rollercoaster vid hahaha)

(p.s. did anyone mention his Move cover and how he wouldn't stop talking about how much he loves Taemin and how he gave him courage? Taemin's gay agenda at work!! I'll have to look it up later)

Watched the whole thing and there were some interesting subtle moments. After Ten said "blank blank" he sang Nega Dola to give Taeyong a hint at what he was getting at, but that song isn't really inappropriate so must be some inside thing between them. But the subtext was definitely that Ten is "weird" in an "out there and wild" kinda way. I thought the part starting around 46:20 was interesting too in that Taeyong seemed to know something about Ten and England, that Ten diverted from. Reminded me of the iconic Bangkok moment when his teacher spilled the tea everyone already knew and they had to act surprised.

I mean "nega dola" means "I'm going crazy" which fits the conversation. it's probably just a similar phrase that might not be appropriate to say (as in it's crude or a curse word).

I do think Taeyong and Ten were hinting at inappropriate webtoons of some sort lol, but I don't think the "xx" word necessarily had to do with his sexuality. Ten is really something else these days though hahaha I love this boy

Didn't a P101 Season 2 contestant/employee say that half of p101 trainees are gay or something along those lines?

EkIJF9Q.gif

I think you might be remembering something I posted a while ago?

Also, this sounds like a ridiculous "friend of a friend" story, I know. But my friend (an openly gay Korean guy here in Korea) has a friend who's apparently a trainee w/ Kim Yongguk from p101, and somewhere along the line he told him "on the show, probably about 40 of the guys were gay."

me: "they must have been pretty open about it then?!"

him: "yeah, usually. and if they're not famous they probably still use gay apps to hook up lol so maybe that's how they knew"

And then he told me a story about how he actually talked to a foreign guy on Abnormal Summit on grindr until he got more popular and deleted everything haha

Also, his gaydar was compeletely different than what most people think, we didn't talk about everyone but he's certain that in Wanna One Daehwi, Daniel, and Guanlin are gay and Seongwoo is bi. (He likes Seongwoo tho haha)

Anyways, I just thought the implication of how many gay boys there were was interesting and how they were probably fairly open about it. It doesn't entirely surprise me, either.

Wish more boy groups would do full dance covers of girl group songs

14u is a rookie boy group. This is cute.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5nU1WbadWs

the boy with the elmo (maybe?) headband? the one who did JooE's part the first time pinged me instantly lmao

also I agree 100% more serious girl group covers by boy groups (and vice versa), please!! they make me so happy

idk if y'all remember ACE, the tiny shorts group lol, but we went to their fan-con last night and they beat every other group at gay fanservice--they played the paper passing game with tiny sheets of clear plastic that left nothing to the imagination lolol

also, two of the members, Jason and Wow, are 200% a couple. not only were they disgustingly cute and touchy with each other (so much more than anyone else) but when the MC tried to put them in order for the paper kissing game, Jason actually pouted until the MC moved him back next to Wow lmao. (Wow is the first boy in line, and then Jason is the second one haha)

contributing to the current discussions (and since I haven't updated my SVT list in a while):

NCT: I mostly pay attention to the gay so I can only say Ten, Taeyong, and Jungwoo are probably gay. my other faves are Mark (?????) and Lucas (probably straight?)...

SVT:

S.Coups: bi, going by his pun in that one song and just the way he interacts with guys and girls

Jeonghan: bi, maybe likes men more? He will 100% flirt with anyone lol he loves attention but I haven't seen a lot of attraction to girls

Joshua: gay. he's not very skinshippy so there's not a lot of receipts (except for looking like he was in love with Jeonghan since they met). He's opening up so much more nowadays, I think he's trying to escape that pure church oppa image he tried to have at debut, so I think we'll see more as time goes on.

Jun: gay. he just loves men. I still think about how much he gushes over Wonho

Hoshi: straight, maybe bi but likes women more? He's another flirt for sure

Wonwoo: straight, probably the straightest member (sorry Mingyu)

Woozi: maybe somewhere on the ace spectrum? love/attraction doesn't seem high on his list of priorities

DK: straight. I know he was questionable predebut idk I don't feel it

Mingyu: super gay

The8: straight, he's supportive and rly close with Mingyu and Jun tho (he and Mingyu would be so cute if not for his tragic straightness)

Seungkwan: gaaaaaayyy

Vernon: bi. questioning him more and more as time goes on, he's surprisingly into fanservice (and Seungkwan)

Dino: straight

Holland also isn't in a company and didn't promote on music shows, so even aside from being gay there's little chance he even met any idols in the first place. people in korea also generally don't know him so I don't know if idols even know who he is. Maybe if he keeps in touch with HSC he can get some connections, though.

i just realized i don't remember reading anything about daehwi on here recently,, hows he doing?

I think he just hasn't been mentioned because he hasn't done anything particularly gay recently is all haha besides being his fabulous baby gay self. W1 hasn't done much for this comeback yet, anyways, I'm sure he'll give us new content soon.

on a kinda shippy note, he and Jinyoung aren't nearly as flirty anymore, I honestly thought maybe they had a big fight bc they barely interacted even as friends, but then they apparently still chose each other as roommates so idk /shrug
