Which male idols do you think are gay?

I don't think he's homophobic, that sentence you brought up got misunderstood. At the time they had filmed a web drama for their youtube show called "It's ok it's friendship", which was clearly full of high school kdrama tropes. He was cast as one of the main characters, which had an extremely alluded relationship going on with another member in that episode and fans started shipping him with that member (Junkyu, who was 20 at the time of the release while Haruto was 16). They were talking about what type of drama they'd want to shoot next. His word choice was poor but what he wanted to convey was that he felt the content was fine unless you cross boundaries (either he's uncomfortable with actually kissing a member or uncomfortable with the shipping and sexual fanfics that resulted with the release of it), remember this was a live stream and he's not a native Korean speaker. He seems to be a very straightforward person and always calls out the fans if they're not minding their own business. He got one of those usual marriage proposals all idols get during their livestreams and told that fan they should wait for a man or woman they'll really love. And he specified man and woman in Japanese. The Japanese comments on the original post were pointing out how he mentioned both men and women. It wasn't one of those Korean to English translations about "I liked a person during my school years" (implying opposite sex) and then someone translates "person" into "boys and girls" due to language differences and false interpretation. At the end of the day, everyone is free to believe whatever they want but I really don't think he's homophobic, just doesn't like the excessive shipping and ppl sexualizing the relationships he has with his members, not to mention, one of the most popular ships (Hajunkyu) is of him and that member mentioned above and he sees the discourse online. He just yesterday said that he lurks on twitter.

Spoiler

i know this is the answer that many fans said is the reason for it but in simple terms of his korean words was namja namja isanghae

man man weird

like i can consider this explanation but at the same time, i’m not going to be that surprised if that’s what he genuinely thinks and that a male idol i don’t personally know on the other side of the world is homophobic

and not everyone is going to be an extreme homophobe either or commit hate crimes, but there’s like a scale. he could be low on the scale where he just thinks it’s weird and would look at someone differently if someone close came out to them

like this

is how i think a majority of male kpop idols would sound like. perhaps haruto would fit into this part of the scale

i think fans are more inclined to believe he just doesn’t like shipping because they don’t want to think he could just be uncomfortable with lgbtq+ content and people, and homophobic feels like a strong word so fans will come to a nicer sounding conclusion

most people like him who think like that as well can be nonchalant about it because they don’t see anything wrong with it

even in the video i linked, all their comments stem from just not knowing anything about lgbtq+ people

it’s not like kids are going to be taught this either, they’d have to look for it in other media forms because korea is conservative and it is going to take a long time to change the stigma surrounding lgbtq+ people over there, and in general

for me, it’s when some idols react to shipping or anything gay that initiates a side eye from me. yeah, shipping can go too far, but then some reactions can as well which make me feel like hm they could be kinda homophobic and ignorant

I do understand your concerns and I'm not saying there isn't any possibility that he's ignorant towards that topic to some extent but there's only that one livestream moment that speaks for that and bc that wasn't clear, we can't tell. Other than that he hasn't shown any other signs and him shutting down shippers on their otps isn't a sign of him being homophobic. I feel like ppl only care more to prove he's homophobic to some extent bc he's in a YG group and ppl like to believe they value traditional masculinity more and therefore have "homophobic energy", and in treasure's case, also bc  Treasure and Enhypen fans have unreasonable fanwars going on, so both fandoms try to find scandals/issues they can blow out of proportion during Twitter fights. I feel it's fine to set boundaries for fans and if he makes future ignorant statements ppl should speak up about it but in this case, it doesn't make sense. Also, yes, Treasure also gets a bad rep regarding those assumed traditional values due to a major part of their fandom being southeast asian (bc it's a very safe market YG focuses on) and those fans, especially the muslim ones, can be very loud when it comes to how they talk about sexuality, femininity and how it's something that should be hidden. they try to hide "x member gay" searches and get into fights with the rest of the fandom due to that. Treasure themselves haven't really given any reason for us to believe they're different than any other 4th gen group tho.

Spoiler

i feel like you can’t really say oh but there’s no other homophobic moments

sometimes what someone believes in doesn’t usually get brought up sometimes until specific situations

like you can talk to someone or befriend them but you never bring up political beliefs so you end up not really knowing that xyz actually believes this or that

plus, idols don’t typically get asked these things, so only something indirect like this situation which happens to get brought up can bring insight to what some idols are really thinking

their thoughts on the lgbtq+ community isn’t something that’s going to get asked for there to be other instances of homophobia

plus, treasure is relatively a new group

its when you get to suju’s age where the caring about your image slowly fades away and they start getting confident in being like yeah this is what i do and don’t support

like siwan supporting the people he does, this is something you find out later

or even without age, just when idols get tired of upholding an image, like when jae from day6

i can’t speak for these people you name as those who dislike treasure for “homophobic energy”, but in this case, it was based on what a member had said and not just the vibes

i noticed you said he could be ignorant but not that he could be homophobic. i’d say he could be both since some people’s homophobia is linked with general ignorance. you saying “to an extent” feels like you don’t really fully want to say he’s ignorant either

this is the angle fans use and is probably why you felt like coming to his defence in the first place, as a fan. therefore you probably don’t want to believe someone from a group you like could be like that, without a long list of receipts

the thing is, we always have a plethora of idols that turn out to be the worst people ever and sometimes they’ve never had a long list of moments that led up to it

for now he still gets an eyebrow raise and a side eye

"i can’t speak for these people you name as those who dislike treasure for “homophobic energy”, but in this case, it was based on what a member had said and not just the vibes"

there is no other thing treasure has said that could allude to "homophobic energy" besides that one livestream moment you brought up. I talked about ppl believing treasure could have "homophobic energy" due to them being a YG group as a way of explaining why ppl would believe they'd stand out in that regard compared to other 4th gen groups bc YG energy has been mentioned in this thread ever since this thread has been a thing.

"i noticed you said he could be ignorant but not that he could be homophobic.i’d say he could be both since some people’s homophobia is linked with general ignorance. you saying “to an extent” feels like you don’t really fully want to say he’s ignorant either."

You mentioned in one of your replies to me that there's a scale when it comes to homophobia:
"and not everyone is going to be an extreme homophobe either or commit hate crimes, but there’s like a scale. he could be low on the scale where he just thinks it’s weird and would look at someone differently if someone close came out to them"

That's what I meant with "to a certain extent". I don't exclude the possibility of him being homophobic but there's no concrete proof right now. I just don't feel like he's a homophobe as of what we know of him rn, his statement in that livestream was not well articulated, if we take it at face value and he directly meant gay relationships, it indeed would make it an ignorant statement and him a homophobe. I will not dispute that. He's gonna have to clarify that for us to know the actual truth. All of these conclusions are based on feelings, someone who doesn't consume their content won't know how they communicate with fans and a non-fan will obviously not tend to try to defend someone based on their feelings.

If he was against gay relationships, he wouldn't have told that fan to go looking for a man or woman they love to marry instead. He clearly knows he has both male and female fans, who are attracted to him, otherwise he would've just said "find a man".

At the end of the day, you're free to side-eye him all you want. I'm not saying ppl shouldn't be wary of possible future homophobic statements. I just wanted to post a perspective on him that hasn't been posted on here about him before. He's been telling off his fans, who like to dictate how he should dress and cut his hair short constantly in the past months on top of the shippers. If you feel the latter adds to the possibility of him being homophobic, then that's fine. Personally, I don't believe being direct to fans and telling them their ship isn't real, adds to that. Speaking about these topics requires precise language, things on my end could have gotten lost since english isn't my first language.

alright. btw i still don’t think “if he was really homophobic he wouldn’t have said find a man or woman” really means anything. idols in the past used to answer their ideal type questions with details and nowadays they’re told to be as broad as possible and to cater to as many audiences as they can. this just feels like that type of answer

and obviously we can’t have concrete proof of things like that because we are not in the room when idols discuss social issues

its not something i actually wanted to go into depth about

I don’t know if anyone’s mentioned it here yet, but on twitter there is now dating rumors between Kevin of TBZ and Ten of NCT.

I know awhile ago Kevin said on bubble (?) that he’s friends with Ten and they message each other a lot, but as it was posted above they were spotted going out to eat together in a group and I guess today Kevin said on bubble him and Ten went out together to go shopping and went to a cafe to share cake together since their birthdays are so close together.

He said he was going to post his shopping haul so I guess we’ll see if they got couple items? But I love Ten with my whole entire heart, and I love Kevin, but I wholeheartedly can’t see them as a couple 😬 Maybe it’s because their personalities are so identical but it just feels like such a random/weird pairing?…

Waking up to this in my feed certainly wasn’t on my bingo card this year.

kevin and ten sound cute together

Has this been posted here yet? It's a bts video clip from one of Jiwoong's BLs, (the sexy actor guy from Boys Planet and "our resident boy kisser" lol).  I found the whole video pretty cute, but at around (6:07) it gets really interesting, like suddenly real feelings are exposed. Ofc I have no idea if I'm right but damn if their last kiss is not hot.

Eta: I re-watched the video for, you know, research, and I think the point at where is turns imo from typical kdrama pecks on the lips to full on indie movie about a gay romance is at (5:29) if you want to skip to the "interesting" part.

Should I put this under a spoiler, since it's from bl kdrama?

the thing is about bls and working on projects together, everything looks really convincing but most of the time they’re not a couple or secretly dating. sometimes the chemistry is just two actors showing that they are actually became close. i’m sure some have actually gone into relationships this way but they are really good at convincing people that real feelings were exposed

there was a behind the scenes clip of zee saying i love you saint instead of his character name and then now it’s all about zee and nunew and saint is nowhere to be found with him

they’re really good at convincing people

it's not allowing me to quote rn but @bb8__ he speaks english really well. the shirt is part of a pride month limited edition collection. astro definitely have lgbtq+ members. i personally think including eunwoo

---

also i wonder if hiding in plain sight works with idols. like if hoshi is actually dating that person, but because they're posting about it, would it make the gp think it's actually not real because of that?.. idk i saw it in a movie before where two guys were dating but because they weren't hiding it, and directly said they're dating to the girls that asked, the girls didn't believe them still because to them, if they really were, then they wouldn't be so open about it

I've asked about woo do hwan a few days ago but then a bts discussion started and you know the rest...so I'm asking again, anything about him? just curious

(edit) anything about the rose members too?

for the rose, i wouldn’t be surprised if woosung was lgbtq+

when he got asked the typical ‘which member would you date, if you were a girl’, his answer was he doesn’t have to be a girl to date dojoon

that might not mean much in the long run, but it was the most interesting answer i’ve seen to this question

——

what do we think about pride flags at concerts? i heard onlyoneof aren’t allowed to take them in chicago anymore as they did in new jersey. i also remember for the boyz last year someone tried to give one in london and kevin made an X so people complained that they were allowed to in 2019

right now people are blaming studio pav for onlyoneof, i’d think it’s the company, but then also their company is the one putting lgbtq+ storylines so..

and apparently they’re not allowed the flag in the city picture

what are we thinking?

Some terrible news, the only group that makes sense is OnlyOneOf. The former leader, Love, left in 2021 with zero explanation…if it truly is them I’m worried that they will just receive negative attention from this. People will use their LGBT support against them, say the former leader turned them gay, etc, etc. Super shitty all around. Obviously this is the worst for the victim, it’s going to become a netizen guessing game trying to figure out which member was the one that got sexually assaulted.

so this is what the notice is about. the official account said something about false information but i was like ?? what’s this about

like i saw this with no context but i get it now

I'm thinking it's Studio PAV, they're not even posting pictures including the flag. I'm not an 8D fan, but they put a flag on the Seoul Drift MV.

yeah that’s why if it were any other group i’d think it’s the company but then knowing that each member’s solo album is a colour of the pride flag and rie’s rainbow bag in seoul drift..

so i guess it really is the tour organiser. i did hear negative things about studio pav but also i wonder why nothing has changed

If the audience wants to bring them, fine, but I'd rather they didn't try to hand them to the artists. Everything becomes about them passing The Flag Test by behaving in a particular way. If people aren't analysing the expressions on their faces, they're getting lost in theories about who exactly is responsible for their fave ignoring it or whatever. It doesn't mean idols aren't homophobic if they interact with a pride flag and it doesn't mean they're not gay or an ally if they don't. I don't like how it takes away their agency. Can you imagine being gay and closeted and being handed a pride flag in front of a large audience for people to judge your reactions? You're going to feel a lot of things and it's not fair to impose that on someone. Imagine trying to give a flag during a performance to someone like Key who manages his image very carefully so he can be as authentic as possible without coming out. It would be wrong to expect him to start dancing round with one. It's entitled. For onlyoneof, haven't they done enough already? I wish people would appreciate what they have and let them enjoy their tour.

yeah honestly same. like i understand why people are bringing pride flags but at the same time i don’t like how some fans overhype interacting with a pride flag

i remember when people were saying jay chang had said homophobic things and some girls came out saying he’s not homophobic because they took a picture (that they paid $100 for) with him with the pride flag

like whether what he was accused of was true or not, it’s really naive imo to think that interactions with a flag means you support the community

sometimes i’ve seen they ignore the flag but it’s more because they’ve asked people not to throw things on stage but they still do but because it was a flag it becomes a bigger deal

like how you said, whether you ignore it or interact with it, it feels like a tricky situation

this whole blind item news is just generating speculation over people who could be innocent.. also the allkpop article is different to the koreaboo one. the allkpop one mentions r*pe as well. it’s a shame it’s been presented as a guessing game. if they were always going to publicly disclose the name then i feel they should’ve done that first than have people throw names around

this current scandal that's being referred to here makes me sick and i feel like could result in people, whether they're the korean public or not, being given an excuse to spew homophobic rhetoric (the whole 'gay people being predatory' thing, anything else they can find themselves being able to say which i feel like could already be seen through that tweet bringing up the libido choreography which doesn't and shouldn't relate to this at all).

i deeply feel for the victim and i hope his identity is protected. the prosecutor's want the perpetrator's identity revealed so if that happens i feel like it'll cause more speculation about who in the group was the victim and that sucks too. in cases like this, you would probably want the perpetrator to be named and shamed in order to stay the hell away but now it's tricky considering it involves another person in the limelight as well and everyone in that group will immediately be speculated upon, having their privacy violated and they'll be remembered by it forever. that's gotta be extremely triggering for the victim.

there was something that happened like a week or two ago where a male was caught filming other males like those spy cam things and the comments were talking about how this isn’t going to be talked about as to why are men doing this but just more of a gays are the problem

twitter is saying that its about

Spoiler

laun from onf

i don’t know if all the details match up but onf were 7, now 6, debut in 2017 and laun did leave without an explanation or any hints of leaving

i really like that group too. also sorry for adding to the speculation but when i saw that on my timeline.. idk.. i don’t think the timelines add together because we rely on translations, we might miss details.. but it’s quite a coincidence that onlyoneof always got mistaken for them and then they both have a member who left under personal reasons

laun left in 2019 and not 2021 or after so yeah, can't be him

i hope people refrain from pointing fingers because i've already seen multiple groups be named (if you think of something that lines up then i guess that's ok to keep in mind but i feel like it shouldn't even be out there since no one really knows), some even acting like it's 'confirmed' when that just harms multiple parties. kpop stans already love to overanalyse videos of idols so i'm sure people will be scouring through groups' videos to try find a male idol uncomfortable with his fellow group member and i can especially see that happening when/if the name is revealed 🤢

it’s already happening. it’s like all over my twitter timeline. that and drama with onlyoneof’s tour with the company releasing a blacklist statement english version
