Which male idols do you think are gay?

Recommended Posts

He's still wearing the ring :(

I don't think we'll ever know the nature of their relationship, but I really believe they loved each other so much. Platonically, romantically, whatever. I'm glad all of the members are doing better now.

I believe the picture was taken in Portugal (yes, same coat as in the airport to Japan, but he's wearing it in the picture taken in the bakery in Portugal too), so before... But still. The letter with the ring on top of it was enough.

I read somewhere that it was a friendship ring that other friends of Jjong have too. Anyone knows anything? I can't remember where I read that. And after December, everything is a bit mixed up.

I'm still worried about the four of them (and others) too...

Yes, and the queerbaiting the industry engages in warps the perceptions of Korean culture in the minds of non-Koreans and it reinforces stereotypes about Asian men in the west. Like I saw some video where people were shipping BoA with KEY of all people, and someone commented "but isn't he thought to be gay," and this pressed fangirl flipped out saying "just because he is feminine and into fashion doesn't make him gay! That's just how Korean men are!" Like no girl, not all Korean men are effeminate and into fashion, and that's not even the reason people think he's gay.

The fact that they choose Key for that documentary should be a hint in itself imo. Just like Heechul can hug all the girls and no one bats an eye. It's obvious that there isn't any ambiguity between them. Even BoA qualifies him as "dainty" (according to the subs at least), which... she wouldn't do if it was "all Korean men".

It reminds me of that video with Amber where she tells him he's fabulous and he agrees.

The video was entitled something like "BoA confesses her true feelings about Key" when in the interview she explicitly said they developed a close noona-dongsaeng relationship so how that translates to them being suited romantically was already deluded. And that video with Amber reminded me of how they used to get shipped together because "she's butch and he's femme so they would match well" imstupid.png . And we're the delusional ones who need to stay grounded in realityrolleyes.gif

"Keyber" is hilarious.

"Yunboa" comes close.

Key and BoA is... an interesting mix? I guess?

Knowing that Holland wasn't supported by his label in coming out, I think it's even more important that we all support him and show the companies that lgbt idols are wanted, and that they can absolutely be successful.

I just checked, and Holland now has over 100k followers on Twitter and over 200k followers on IG. I'm so proud. rlytearpls.png

I don't really get the "not supported by his label" part. I understand they told him "no" when he wanted to reveal his sexual identity... But... the song? The MV????

Did they change their mind in the end? Or did he change labels?

Unless he told them "Oh no worries, this is just fanservice" and then proceeded to come out when the song did. It would be kind of hilarious tbh.

Random but I love how the guys name is Yoonjae or YunJae. The scriptwriter must be a secret YunJae shipper.

I would usually say something like this is a reach... but this drama... I'm almost sure it was done on purpose.

Can i ask you why? Saw this brought up a lot between shippers, but couldn find a reason. I wasnt a fan back than, so probably i am missing something.

I'm not entirely sure of course, but since the drama focused quite heavily on fan culture (fan fictions (Yes, this kind), stalking, fanwars...etc), and since it ends with a DBSK concert, I think the writer had to know that a name such as Yoon Jae, even though it's a common Korean name, would be noticed. The fact that there is an actual realistic gay character too. It's a lot of coincidences.

Maybe I'm wrong, don't take my word on this.

he's also been friends with heechul since at least 2010 and they have some questionable moments together

Heechul has questionable moments with every guy he encounters though.   0u0plz.png

Edit:  Not really OT, but just in case. Yunho on ice vs children vs girlfriend

Since some of you were talking about Ice skating:

I was watching the gala, then ended up on twitter, and found this video of Yunho in Kiss&Cry, a TV broadcast with celebrities learning how to skate, with Kim Yuna as a judge (of course). In the video, Yunho is in a restaurant with three children, one of whom being Cha Jun Hwan, now 16, youngest male skater of the olympics, and (since many of you seem interested) who trains with Hanyu Yuzuru and Javier Fernandez.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91i-76xeshQ&ab_channel=SBSTVJobs

This child is adorable alright (was, still is, and I wish people wouldn't "ship" him with anyone, especially adults. He is 16). And he asks important questions. Like at 1'15, when he asks Yunho why he doesn't have a girlfriend, or if he has a girlfriend (??? My Korean is mostly inexistant, sorry).

Ahh, I love Yunho. His reactions are always on point.

yunho and heechul talking about their life experiences while drunk??? omg gay mess incoming hurrplz.png

it'll be interesting to see xiumin and mark as well, since they're more up in the air. xiumin seems straight as a ruler to me, but then again he's very introverted, so maybe after a few shots he'll be more talkative.

Straight as a ruler, except when he's drooling over Changmin's abs. This is going to be interesting.

honestly,, it's such an odd and out-of-place thing to include in the mv. a literal massive rectangle behind a bed with a dude on it (whether it's intended to be hoseok or not) is pretty damn... suspicious, by my books. i ain't getting my hopes up or anything but at the same time i'm struggling to find a way to make it nothing. it's just such an odd set choice, y'know?

also, this is most definitely unrelated but the first line is 'my personality/character is half and half. who knows?' hurrplz.png

Spoiler because it's Japanese, not Korean, and mostly OT

The half and half part reminds me of another song that many people believe to be about bisexuality too. It's by the (former? He passed away 20 years ago) guitarist of X-Japan, a band that BTS actually met (at least the drummer/pianist/leader) for their Christmas special in Japan two months ago.

201712241031779212_5a3f07ac4ec09.jpg

Here is the song (it starts at 2'):

Here is one translation: http://www.karaoke-lyrics.net/lyrics/hide/--181088

While I doubt J-hope even KNOWS the song, I thought it was pretty funny to mention. And yay for the bi flag! It's always nice to see.

Thoughts on Samuel Kim ?

1bf595696e08001025295a016ccac3cf.gif

I'd say probably straight? But I've mostly seen him interact with people twice his age (which isn't that much, the kid is young), so it wasn't very telling either way.

Yes hello this is my 1000th post about Yunho and Hojun, pls don't kick me!

https://www.soompi.com/2018/03/23/tvxqs-yunho-son-ho-jun-show-off-close-friendship-on-i-live-alone/

After watching, the MCs asked Yunho if he saw Son Ho Jun often. Yunho answered, “When it was often, I saw him six days a week. We rarely drink. We go on trips, play games, or make a lot of memories.â€

Imagine being a hella busy and popular kpop star but still making time in 6 out of 7 days in a week to see ur bro imstupid.png we love platonic bffs imstupid.png

Expect more annoying posts once the episode is out with subs so I can watch it!

I don't know much about Son Ho Jun, but I really hope Yunho can find someone and not be scared. And I would be really happy and relieved if it was the case with Ho Jun. Yunho deserves to be happy.

About Heechul...

It's frustrating, because sometimes I just forget. I forget that for some people, maybe even for the majority of the Korean public (I wouldn't know, don't quote me on that), Heechul is straight. Straight by default, straight until proven otherwise, straight because he wouldn't be that obvious if he wasn't... And for me, Heechul joking about being gay is just that. A joke. I see him joking about it and I see sarcasm and irony. And I forget that for some (many?) people, there is only one reading and no subtext.
I wonder if Heechul forgets too. I wonder if he stops and asks himself how his jokes are perceived and what it says about the LGBT* community to people who only see him on tv, who don't know about his full support, or about him being (imo) not straight at all.

I have said it before, and I still think that Heechul is really far from the confident persona he tries to show. He's good at his job, yes, and it hides a lot. But Heechul is sensitive. Much more than he would like to show probably. And sometimes, he just looks terrified.

I have a lot to say about Heechul. Good things and bad things. I wish he was more serious sometimes. I wish he behaved differently with girls too. Because, yes, we know (here, I think?) he's gay. We know he (most likely) respects them a lot. But sometimes, his public persona isn't that nice.

Also, I wish he was able to show his feminine side without making it a joke.

I think he goes back and forth a lot. Sometimes, he doesn't give a sh*t, posts obvious stuff with Gunhee, meets friends he isn't supposed to meet (publicly), brings his actual boyfriend to his fake straight wedding, makes fun of his company... And then he's all about girlfriends, girls, girls, real or not, look I'm straight, look I want a girlfriend, I wish I had a girlfriend, did I mention a girlfriend?

Heechul is weird. I started to like him because he was weird. And as much as I wish he didn't hide, I really can't judge him...

___________

And as a side note, sometimes, I wish Hong Seok Cheon refused to be portrayed as a gay stereotype. Because that's what he is in broadcasts more often than not. They invite him because he's gay, to be "the gay one". Not as an actor, restaurant owner or politician. But then again, he doesn't have a choice if he wants to appear on tv, does he? It's either gay people as a joke or no gay people at all...

New one here, although I have been visiting on this website before as a guest. Been following this thread for a while now and it’s great to have this kind of place where to openly discuss about subjects, which otherwise would often be completely ignored. Also, lovely to see how many lgbt fans are here! smile.png

Might be a bit off topic, (?) but I have wanted to ask about this. Do you ever get uncomfortable when speculating others sexuality? Especially when they live in a country, which is still quite conservative when it comes to these things. I hope that I worded this correctly – I have no intention to blame no one or make anyone feel bad. Just curious about your thoughts.

Slightly OT

I do sometimes tbh. Sometimes I think it their lives and we should stay out of it. But that would be going against everything that makes idol culture, right? Their lives are precisely what they sell, as creepy as it is. If it was only music and dance, it wouldn't be an idol industry. Is it twisted and wrong? Yeah, this industry is. Does it make us worse than any other person on this forum? I don't think so, especially since most of us wish for them to be happy (instead of hating a specific fandom, criticizing a specific idol for nothing...).

Yes, we gossip. That's the entertainment world for you.

It's all about speculations anyway. It's an international forum, where many people think this thread is a shipping one anyway. And if it ended up translated in Korean (I don't see how, or why, but let's imagine), we are talking about netizens who are still not aware that Jokwon is gay... I think we're safe.  If anything, Korean LGBT fans speculate too, and our opinions could very easily be pushed under the "Westerners who don't get Korean culture" cover.

I think we have to be careful not to post stuff that could serve as proofs (like sasaeng pictures for instance). Otherwise, I think it's okay?

Edit:

I'm in for the Discord chuplz.png  I think it's a good idea! Maybe we could ask the female idol thread too? It would be nice to have something in common, don't you think? Even if we have different channels inside the discord.

I guess the reason why is because i get really sensitive when people are vague over these things. it’s because it puts them in a situation where they can get the praise for being supportive while not actually committing to the statement they get the praise for. it reminds me of jk rowling saying dumbledore is gay in an interview after she wrote all the books with no gay dumbledore. personally as a gay dude i find it difficult, whether i like it or not, to not feel uncomfortable when people are vague.

Namjoon and J.K.Rowling

This my opinion, and it doesn't mean your feelings aren't valid if you feel disappointed by his answer. I get it, we all wish idols/artists were more straightforward (or just... well... forward?0u0plz.png ). I agree with you as a whole. I just don't think  both can be compared.

I don't think we can compare JKR and Namjoon. (and before you read that, believe me, I really love Harry Potter. It might have saved my life as a child, but still.)

JKR wrote books with barely any representation (don't get me started on Cho and the Patill sisters), pictured Remus as gay and then backed out, mentionned her only LGBT character being gay as an after thought and co-wrote Cursed Child, which is... terrible plot aside, clearly using gay subtext without the courage to take it to the end. She was an adult when she started, lives in the UK and clearly doesn't care much about what people think anymore. Also, she's most likely straight.

Namjoon is much younger, wasn't even an adult when he debuted. He lives in South Korea. He has made mistakes, learned, acknowledged them and apologized (JKR... hasn't). He has been supportive for a very long time. He's the leader of a boy group that can't make any mistake. He's also the only (fluent) English speaker in the group and had to lead all their US promotions by himself. Also, Namjoon might very well not be straight.

This interview wasn't him taking back his support. It was him being cautious, maybe even scared. They freaking asked them about Jjong!!! Who some of them (at least) knew personally. How insensitive can you get?!  What if the interviewer had asked about their sexual orientations? Something like "Is it a personal subject for you?". Considering how they interpreted his hesitation... I can't even imagine...

Suga is straightforward, Namjoon is a diplomat. Namjoon is carrying the whole group, especially in the US, and he can't afford his words to be misinterpreted. Also, he speaks English fluently alright, but it's still not his native language, and it's soooo easy to say something slightly different from what you were intending (I would know...).

It's not only about him too... We don't know if he's straight or not, but we all agree that BTS has one or several non-straight members. That's not a risk you take as a boy group. Not in the US, and definitely not in South Korea.

Namjoon isn't perfect. But THAT wasn't a mistake (imo). Now if he decides to be more blunt in the future on this subject, I definitely won't complain!

I fell like maybe Holland talked to Bts and are even friend ( maybe) with them.

Because I don't think he could do it if they never talked because he wouldn't know if they are okay " him admiring them as a gay man".

I also don't think he would do it with a random group.

I agree with him not doing it with a random group. But I don't think he has to be friends with them to do that? He knows BTS members are most likely all LGBT supportive, and that they are nice to their fanboys.

Although I'd be happy if they were friends. It would be nice. And Holland needs all the support he can get.

They had a comeback in January if that's what you're asking.

That's what I wanted to know yes! Thanks!

I haven't heard much from them. ohdearplz.png  I just know that Hoya left.

There were mentioned quite a lot here before.

Edit: I somehow messed up while trying to quote...

So are GD and Jaejoong gay or bi? I really don't know. GD was so gay in 2013 and earlier tho... :') He's feminine and has mannerisms (I know it doesn't really mean anything but still) but he could be bi... I just hope he finds someone who makes him very happy, he seemed really lonely and depressed last year. :( (I love GD too much it literally ruins my life xD)

Ok bye

imo GD is quite obviously bi/pan and has shown attraction to boys and girls. I don't think his relationship with Mizuhara Kiko was fake, was it?

I would be quite surprised if Jaejoong was anything but gay, but who knows? He has definitely shown interest in guys. He's smooth with girls though, even if I don't see him being attracted to them.

Lol at gays being offended by top/bottom discussions! So speculating about about people's sexual orientations is all fine, but their sexual positions is a no-no?Where is the logic?

Well I definitely think he's a bottom but I have this stereotype about most feminine skinny gays (e.g. Troye Sivan).

It's just not the purpose of the thread, that's all. There is the Bar (18+) section if people want to talk about sex.

And it's not so much gay men (or girls) being offended by it. It's just that it is sometimes used as a way to fetishize men who have sex with men, it relies very strongly on stereotypes (you just proved it), and many gay/bi/pan men also argued that (gay) sex couldn't be reduced to just top/bottom positions.

Sexual orientation and sexual practices are not the same, even if they are related.

(now when GD likes "Bottoms do it better" pictures on Instagram, that's different 0u0plz.png    (because it adds to the elements alluding to him not being straight))

Cheating is ugly, but it is STILL a private matter. As is sexual orientation unless someone willingly comes out.
Who are you to out someone? What do you want from him? Suicide? Because that's exactly how it ends sometimes. What about his job? His relationship with his family, friends, colleagues? What about human decency for once?

If it was one of the alleged cheatees that outed him, didn't they also take a big risk in outing themselves? Even though they may have some level of acceptance in their social/family circles, society at large still isn't welcoming to them...this is a very interesting (not in a good way) situation. Taking that personal risk for vengeance?

also is your last sentence a Mingyu reference?

The one who outed him may very well be out already. Also, it's very different if he's not a celebrity.

But I get your point when you say it's "interesting". Although Taiwan seems far more accepting than South Korea when it comes to LGBT rights.

I just hope he'll be alright...

And no, it's actually a BTS reference za5g21G.png

Recent-ish Suga in that Billboard article

(I do believe RM was just being cautious there, considering all the things he's said about the issue)

I later bring up a tweet that RM wrote in March 2013, saying that when he understood what the lyrics to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ gay-marriage anthem, “Same Love,†were about, he liked the song twice as much. BTS fans naturally took this to mean that BTS openly supported gay rights -- a rarity in K-pop. Today, he’s slightly circumspect on the topic: “It’s hard to find the right words. To reverse the words: Saying ‘same love’ is saying ‘love is the same.’ I just really liked that song. That’s about all I have to say.†Suga, though, is clear on where he stands: “There’s nothing wrong. Everyone is equal.
