Which male idols do you think are gay?

I started a new job (somewhat connected with the government) and posters like these are around the office

Meanwhile Korea is still struggling to pass an anti-discrimination law, (“The bill, as written and introduced in June, would ban direct and indirect discrimination based on gender, disability, medical history, age, origin, ethnicity, race, skin color, physical condition, marital status, sexual orientation and gender identity. Violators would be liable for punitive damages.”)

You guys have heard of Barry Manilow right?

Spoiler

He didn’t come out until he was 73 because he feared he would disappoint his female fans. Considering how much male idols’ careers are dependent on your name female fans…this could be the timeline we’re working with.

junhee is the andrew garfield of kpop

Do people actually think Andrew Garfield is lgbt??

Spoiler

“Up until this point, I’ve only been sexually attracted to women,” Garfield says. “My stance toward life, though, is that I always try to surrender to the mystery of not being in charge. I think most people — we’re intrinsically trying to control our experience here, and manage it, and put walls around what we are and who we are. I want to know as much of the garden as possible before I pass — I have an openness to any impulses that may arise within me at any time.”

Sounds like he wishes he was more gay than he actually is lol. Whereas there’s a possibility of Junhee literally being lgbt…I wouldn’t say they’re the same.

And don’t get me started on James Franco (he did a gay oral sex scene in his own film)

Spoiler

To which he responded, “Well, I like to think that I’m gay in my art and straight in my life”.

“Although, I’m also gay in my life up to the point of intercourse, and then you could say I’m straight. So I guess it depends on how you define gay.

“If it means whom you have sex with, I guess I’m straight. In the twenties and thirties, they used to define homosexuality by how you acted and not by whom you slept with.

“Sailors would f*** guys all the time, but as long as they behaved in masculine ways, they weren’t considered gay.”

Thanks for clearing that up James.

lots of people do believe that andrew garfield is lgbt, same with junhee, and they've both proclaimed to be straight (yes junhee instead said he just isn't gay but most people say that to push that they're straight rather than bi and the intentions with his statement considering the theme of the interview were pretty clear). andrew garfield gives me straight guy who's comfortable in his sexuality while being an enthusiastic ally vibes. if he hadn't said he was straight then i'd probably be more inclined to say he's lgbt but celebrities in the western sphere are much more open about the topic of sexuality in comparison to kpop idols, understandably so, so i think it's less likely that he's lgbt and more likely he's saying the truth. i don't know too much about junhee but i either see it as he really is straight and is an enthusiastic ally, much like andrew garfield, or he is actually lgbt in some form and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to brush away any rumours in an environment that's more likely to be homophobic, especially considering he'll be enlisting soon.

I couldn’t have said it better myself…so how is Junhee the Andrew Garfield of Kpop?

Andrew: “Up until this point I’ve only been sexually attracted to women” but if the feelings arise to be with a guy he would because he wants to experience as much as possible before he dies. He honestly sounds like a curious mostly-straight/straight guy comfortable in his sexuality.

Andrew is believable whereas Junhee could be lying.

Korea and Kpop being so secretive with lgbt is actually counterproductive, as it makes declaring straightness (even having female partner) over there mean shit-all.

“I’ve seen comments where people questioned my sexuality because of this role,” he says, “and I wanted to take this opportunity to let everyone know that I am not gay.” lmao

When asked what it was like kissing his co-star Yoo Hyunwoo, Jun produces a gravelly sigh, and in English says, “So amazing.” Going back to his native Korean, he explains that it was a new experience for him. “I think it will be a memory that I will remember for the rest of my life.” They filmed the kiss twenty times before it was all over, and the work paid off: it has now taken on a life of its own, becoming the subject of fan art.

I don’t know but this made me 😭😭😭

He has a song about hooking up with a guy, imo that's enough proof that he's done it

Katie Perry has a song about kissing a girl and liking it.

Is she considered to be Lgbt? Serious question, I don’t know?

those sunoo pics are actually insaneee. no one thought that was a little much? 😳

a lot of kpop shoots are queer-coded in some way, whether intentional or not, as a lot of artists (directors, stylists, etc) are queer and thus bring their experiences and sense of aesthetics into their art. same goes for when idols have more control over their art.

thinking of other examples of this, they're not necessarily photoshoots but the concept films for NCT's BOSS blew my mind back in the day. those, as well as most of The Boyz concept films are very male gaze-y in a way that feels so very gay. most things The Boyz put out are vaguely homoerotic tbh.

The title says “Bosses” but the clips are giving seductive baby-boy fever dreams.

I agree, it’s rather mind-blowing.

I wonder what were told to the boys to get them to act like that?

You say it’s “‘male gaze-y” but their primary audience is fangirls/women, who seem to like it.

I can see how the clips seem to be filmed from the perspective of an older gay guy…so I suppose it’s male gaze-y in a gay way.

Which brings up the question, is the queer male-gaze and the (straight) female-gaze the same?

I know the straight male-gaze isn’t necessarily the same as the queer female gaze.

Dongmyeong: breathes homosexually. he even has bitchy lip fillers

Lip fillers are trending for male (and female idols)…everyones’ getting them. Plump, pouty lips are in. So I wouldn’t say they’re a sign of homosexuality. I thought you’d know this.

-Sunoo from Enhypen. He gets teased by his members for his mannerisms

and his pre debut + I-land era (where I think he had a crush on Sunghoon because he is “the most handsome”)is enough proof. He is a great little guy!

-Woonggi from To1. A true dancer who reminds me of icon Jo Kwon. 05:00

He gagged Edward Avila and everyone watching.

-Chanhee, Changmin (Q) and Kevin from The Boyz. Chanhee is shady and pretty, like a doll and I love it. Kevin is interested in everything gay (his little musicals and RuPauls Drag Race). I’m not super sure about Changmin but his music taste is very good (only female artists, mostly 2nd gen) and he looks cute dancing and singing to them :)

- Ten from WayV is known for being the sweetest ever and I think he is one of the members in NCT who would be so comfortable to be around. He is just like a cat… (he has 2 cats and this vlog is just too precious, watch it if you want to relax!

These were the idols who give off the least fragile masculinity vibe to me. Thanks for reading ❤️

It could just be Taehyung identifying with the man in the picture (looking out into the vast expanse of the ocean, standing cool on a surfboard), not lusting over him. The love song reflecting his mood/thoughts or he just likes the song. Not that he’s directing the love song to the man or referring to the blob in the photo.

Taehyung’s outwardly shown his liking for CMBYB (and other lgbt stuff) so why would he delete that Leslie Cheung post because oh no bi actor dancing in movie scene?

cmon guys taeyong is going to the army in a few years he's allowed to read gorey manga if he so wishes to. point is he's a grown adult and *SPOILER* i'm sure he can differentiate between fiction and reality. berserk doesn't even glorify rape/violence, that's like saying i condone sex crimes bc i watch law and order like whattttt. and to be frank, taeyong has done other things to tip me off that he's not the best guy, it wasn't the crime of being a fan of a very popular manga that did it for me.

It’s not just gore-y manga, it’s downright disgusting how the women are drawn and objectified in Berserk. It makes me sick. I’ve seen media of women being treated awfully/dehumanised/sexualised, but this takes the cake.

People get turned-on by or like seeing those images (including the author I mean cause). They know it’s “bad”, but it doesn’t mean the images can’t titillate. They were drawn in a titillating manner. Do I even have to show the images again?? They’re so pervy and fanservice-y.

“But i do consume media within which people are stalked, cheated on, abused, murdered, whatever etc. does that mean i want to do those things or condone it? of course not! fiction is fiction for a reason.”

What the actual. There’s nothing wrong with consuming media with r*pe themes…because unfortunately it happens in real life. The Kite Runner (which Taeyong likes and so do I), crime shows, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, that one with Monica Belluci etc

The Berserk author came up with those images in his own horny depraved mind because??

Like why is this a poster?? *TRIGGER WARNING*

Spoiler

spacer.png

Someone got this scene tattooed on himself like goddamn don’t let this guy go near women.

Spoiler

spacer.png

The author could have drawn those r*pes differently. Not like stills from some r*pe fantasy porn. Why are all the girls/women attractive with the same body-type  (and constantly threatened with/being molested and bent over)…whereas there’s a much larger variety in men/monsters?

“that's like saying i condone sex crimes bc i watch law and order like whattttt.”

Are you seriously comparing Law and Order to the images/content in Berserk!? 🤦

On 1/26/2022 at 8:57 PM, gam3 bo1 said:

i feel like this whole taeyong ordeal really highlights the need for y'all to remember that idols are multifaceted human beings with personalities and different traits. how did taeyong go from uwu bubu angel to sex god who writes raunchy lyrics and reads questionable manga? because he's human of course. i'm sure you're not sorted into boxes of either being innocent and pure vs hypersexual and impure by people who know you either online or offline so why is that still placed on idols in the grand year of 2022? we know most of what they show on camera and make clear that they want to show us is a curated image that (usually) both the idol themselves and the company want to put out

Of course I know it’s normal to be both cute and sexual.
But the images in Berserk were not the hypersexual I and most fans tbh have in mind when in came to him…

On 1/27/2022 at 3:49 AM, boredoutofmymind said:

it's hilarious that someone is getting so bent out of shape  over the concept of a person being multifaceted as if taeyong is unique in that respect, many idols are like that heck, many human beings can enjoy a variety of interests whether it be something people normally associate with children like cartoons, or more adult themed things

Of course he can like sex- or violence-related things etc.

Maybe in Berserk the story and detailed art is good/epic, but maybe as a woman it’s hard to ignore the problematic shit, it’s too much.

On 1/27/2022 at 5:18 AM, solario said:

it... doesn't make sense. so you think a cute guy can be into bdsm but not into gorey manga because that destroys his cute image? sounds counterproductive. if you believe that he likes that you shouldn't be shocked he likes other mature things?

which also makes me guess you aren't into anime? because berserk is literally one of the most popular mangas that hundreds of thousands of people have read, that doesn't mean all of them like violence lol

  Reveal hidden contents

also if you to say a manga tells something about the personality of the reader (it doesn't), berserk's main antagonist griffith could be interpreted as a bisexual man. but you see, the probability taeyong likes that manga for the plot is WAY bigger

150828394_227004102461185_97427115068465

He’s shown he’s into the submission and masochism part of BDSM which yeah goes with being cute? Not being sexually violent against people

No I wouldn’t say I’m into anime/manga. I’ve watched Death Note and AoT though.

Ok maybe I simplified/jumped the gun on assuming why he likes Berserk. I really like the story of Game of Thrones (I’ve only watched it, no plans to read), whilst there being problematic parts (which kind of sours it for me). If he’d just read the series cause it’s popular and good plot then no problem. But to own the entire series…bruh that storyline and idk artistic gore better be Jesus reincarnated to compensate.

“Could be interpreted as a bisexual man” yeah it’s vague. Whereas the sexual objectification of women is very much in your face and so much it’s weird.

It’s just that Irene got so much shit for holding a feminist novel because oh no men are scared women want to oppress them but a manga touted as the #1 fantasy manga in Japan has this??

*TRIGGER WARNING*

Spoiler

“rapes Casca whilst forcing Guts to watch. The rape scene here is so long, so brutal, takes up so many panels, involves so many close-ups and sensual shots. It is extremely uncomfortable. And manga is a very visual medium, it is literally a skin-crawling experience to read Casca’s rape scene, and whenever I re-read the manga I skip the whole five-plus pages it goes on for. Its extension appears to be for a bit of sexual gratification, and I cannot excuse Miura of drawing her abuse in this way.”

This rape scene accounts for Casca’s fourth assault up to this point: the first was shown in her childhood flashback, then she was sexually assaulted by an enemy army, and thirdly, we are treated to a pointless attack from Wylad, some random demon who had no real purpose in the story but to tear her clothes off. It makes for a demeaning experience.

Upsettingly, Casca once again becomes a victim of sexual assault in this vulnerable state (in episode 189), by a passing group of men who just so happen to rape her on sight. Guts arrives at the scene too late, looking on in horror as Casca bleeds from her private area clutching a sword, her assailants all sliced and dead on the ground by her feet. And then, the worst moment in the manga happens: Guts becomes overwhelmed by the Beast of Darkness, that symbolic apparition of his inner demons and pain, succumbs to his own anger and hatred and negativity, and takes it out on Casca by sexually assaulting her, biting her breast.

I could go on: Farnese almost gets raped by a demented horse, a group of trolls rape some women in a village, Princess Charlotte almost gets raped by her dad, the Kushan Army hold all the women of Wyndham in sexual captivity to give birth to mutant creatures via spontaneous human combustion, and so on, and so on. If you’re a woman in Berserk, you will get raped, sexually assaulted, or worse. It’s harrowing as it is frustrating, and the Medieval context can only go so far before the rape becomes gratuitous and lazy.

I have no problem whatsoever with r*pe being in a dark fantasy manga/anime…but the way the author depicted the female r*pes as eroticised, objectified and excessive…that’s a bar from me.

It is one of the worst depictions of r*pe I have ever seen. Why aren’t the women fighting back? Why no scratches/cuts on their bodies? Let’s play a game, what is the difference in expression between the consensual sex scene and r*pe scene? *Hint* there is none.

Someone’s comment on reddit *TRIGGER WARNING*

Spoiler

think a point of lot of people are missing here, is not even that she may have been enjoying it, it’s that it was drawn like pornography & sexualized. The panels should have different angles, a rape scene should never look like something the audience may perceive as “play” (CNC) & the victim should not be sexualized for the viewer. It’s not that the rape scene exists or that he had the power to make it somewhat pleasurable, it was the portrayal of these things that was done in a problematic way. While the scene itself is essential to the story, the way it was presented is offensive & contributes to rape culture in the way that it insinuates rape can be sexy or hot or enjoyable on any level to watch. While the rape itself is horrible & enraging, the type of rage some of us are referring to is a different rage having nothing to do with the plot & everything to do with the distasteful & just wrong way to show rape to an audience who is not supposed to be enjoying the rape on any level. It actually takes away from the horror cuz it’s just stupid & fake & disgusting & is just men sexualizing & fantasizing about rape instead of focusing on the sheer horror & trauma that is rape. Again, the scene itself is essential to the story, but the depiction is way off & anyone (especially women & fems) has a right to feel offended by the way a man sexualized the rape of a woman instead of showing the pure evil it is. Rape is not sex & never should be portrayed as such.

Let’s just say I would not feel comfortable being alone with the author of Berserk.

The rest of the time its generally unblemished and physically attractive victims being brutalized by monsters. Its on purpose, and its pretty fucking weird if you stop to think about it. I must enjoy it on some level, and I'd assume most fans of the manga do to. Its ok not to though.
