Which male idols do you think are gay?

Recommended Posts

A wild HSC appears!!... I really wish this had translated subs  :omg:

It almost feels like this episode was edited out of chronological order. They keep going back and forth between being nicer to Jaewoong(?) and being cold/uncomfortable again...  :._.:

I don't think they act cold towards him at all. They just seem awkward sometimes because they're not sure how to act around him. Two of them even went to a human sexuality clinic to talk to someone about how they should treat him. Although it's kind of weird that they felt like they need someone else's advice for this, but it shows that they want to get along with him and don't want him to feel left out, so I guess it's nice of them. At least they're trying.

after seeing gunhee's private pictures.I'm quite sure he is actually straight. he only wants to gain attention by posting his picture with Heechul.

What private pictures?

Honestly though, I think it'll probably be a nugu or a rookie who comes out "officially" first, as opposed to a veteran. I mean we already have two more or less confirmed guys who are either bi or gay, but since they're so nugu nobody ever gave a single fuck, so they didn't have to make any official statements about it or anything  :derp:

Who?

Kyungsoo I can definitely see as being gay. I can't really picture him with a girl tbh.

Well, he's had at least one girlfriend before his debut. Of course, that doesn't mean anything, he could still be gay, but we know for a fact he dated girls in the past.

So I'm gonna bring up this interview Kim Hyun Joong did back in May of this year. If it starts at the beginning of the video then skip to 7:48 for the part in question then watch until 8:52. I've written a rather long analysis so I'm putting it under a spoiler tag to not stretch the page.

I saw this gifset on tumblr [ x ] and in the comments people are taking it as him "coming out as bisexual." Personally, I'm a bit on the fence, as like in the Jonghyun interview, what all this means can be debated. So I'm gonna do my best to at least explain what I see happening and then leave it for you all to discuss if you wish.

To me, this whole exchange reads in this order:

  •  The Female MC asks Hyun Joong what his ideal type is, not specifically asking for his ideal female type
  • Hyun Joong picks up on that then asks "My ideal male type or my ideal female type?"
  • Male MC says something, that isn't translated in the video but is supposedly " Why would we ask about your male preference?" ( I'll explain this more)
  • Hyun Joong says that he also likes men ( possibly hinting at liking men as well and thus being bisexual, or trying to bring these two genders into the question and make it more platonic of a question)
  • the male interviewer says "then as a guy who likes guys as friends, what are some things you do and don't like" ( subs are a bit wonky with the english for this part )
  • Hyun Joong then proceeds to answer platonically for his male type and then romantically for his female type

Alright, now for some further clarification:

The female interviewer, according to the subs, asked him in Chinese what his ideal type was. From my understanding and limited mandarin skills she didn't specifically ask what his ideal  female type was (although it could be inferred that's what she meant based on the topic they were discussing prior to this section)  and he then responds, according to the subtitles as "In a girl or guy...(LOL) I have guy friends too."

Although I can't translate the first part of his sentence entirely. I did catch that what he actually says in Korean is ".....저는 남ìžë„ 좋아하니까."  Which translates literally to "...Because I also like guys too." And to my understanding and experiences, this wording in this syntax is more implicative of a romantic interest in men rather than just "as friends" or something more general/platonic. I say this because when I did a home-stay in Korea my home-stay mom asked me if I was gay and she asked "니가 남ìžë¥¼ 좋아요?" And also because I remember Wooyoung of 2PM talking once about when one of the members asked if he was gay and used that kind of wording. So that's why I can believe the argument that he was intentionally tying to state his romantic interest in men too ( for some debatable reason).

He also does say something about ë‚¨ìž (male/man) and ì—¬ìž(female/woman), So I assume that the translation " In a girl or guy....(LOL)" is actually correct but the "I have guy friends too." is not the correct literal translation of what he said. That being said, it is possible that the person who subbed it did correctly provide an accurate connotation and that I am wrong. I do know that the actual translation of what he said doesn't lend itself to a translation suggesting purely platonic interest, but I am also aware that in languages things don't always mean what they literally translate to. I just feel that in this instance that is not necessarily the case.

Also, someone on tumblr said that when Hyun Joong asked "In a girl or in a guy" (in regards to his ideal type) the male interviewer replied "would we have asked man?" That's taken directly from the tag in the tumblr comment. Written more clearly they probably meant that he said something more like "(Why ) would we have asked for your male preference?" To which Hyun Joong replied "Because I also like guys." Then the male interviewer replied "then as a guy who likes guys as friends, what are some things you do and don't like?"

He responds to that with rather platonic things and then responds to the part about his ideal female type as someone who can drink as much as him without blacking out and someone who only has eyes for him." Which is definitely not platonic.

So that's what happened. I feel there are several possible explanations though:

(1) Hyun Joong was trying to point out that what the female interviewer initially asked didn't specify which gender she meant. This could have been either because he was trying to be humorous/ act like a smart-a in a humorous way ( most likely) or because he was trying to attack her since he didn't want to answer those sort of questions (doubt it ). Or something else I'm not aware of. However, her question could have been easily understood to mean his female preference given the context of what they were previously talking about ( prior to the section I've had you watch ).

(2) Hyun Joong was trying to state that he is romantically interested in both men and women. The Korean male MC deliberately re-words the female MC's question when he states "Then as a guy who likes guys as friends what are some things you do and do not like?" I only think that this is sort of believable because the Korean MC is the one who shifted any non-heterosexual notions out of the conversation entirely. First with his ( alleged but most likely true) comment of "Why would we ask about your male preference?" before Hyun Joong ambiguously stated "Because I also like guys."  and again when he re-worded the female MC's question.

Hyun Joong didn't give any body language to say he was put off though,( at least to my eye ) so I'm not inclined to believe that he was trying to suggest he liked men but rather he was just trying to make the question less about romance and more about friendship. ( Just like when Lee Joon did the same thing with his "I had girlfriends in high school and i had boyfriends in high school too" comment).

Alright so if anyone managed to read this novel of a post I'd like to hear your thoughts. I definitely think that he brought up something that could be taken in a non-heterosexual way. However I'm not 100% convinced he was doing so in a way to out himself and that there's probably a more logical reasoning. (such as him trying to bring humor, trying to deflect the annoying "ideal type question" or having some fun with words and connotations)  Plus since he hasn't done his mandatory military service, I'm even less inclined to believe he was trying to hint at that, but I'd be more than happy to be wrong in my skepticism.

There are a few contradictions to keep in mind though:

  • if he mentioned that he liked guys for the sake of making the question less about romance and more about friendship then why did he mention something very not platonic when talking about his ideal female type?
  • if he mentioned that he liked guys for the sake of bringing up him being bisexual then why did the MC respond " then as a guy who likes guys as friends" if Hyun Joong didn't mention or imply the "as friends".  Was the male MC perhaps putting words into Hyun Joongs mouth and ignoring the non-heterosexual implications he made? (possible but I feel like it might be reading into it as again i didn't see any tense body language at all)

Yeah, he clearly stated he likes guys too. They were talking about romance so there is no other way he could have meant it in any other than a romantic way. I think the MC re-worded the question to protect him. They do that a lot in Korean tv shows. Whenever someone says anything that sounds even a little bit gay, the MCs always jump in and say "yeah but you like girls, right?" They are trying to make sure people won't 'misunderstand'. I can't decide whether that's a good thing or a bad thing but they do it a lot so yeah.

Baekhyun that wasn't even remotely subtle...

he does the full body scan, keeps rubbing his lips/licking them, and gets all flustered gosh

also he fits into Baek's tall guys type perfectly lol

I think he was just licking his lips because he ate that watermellon.

It's hard to tell since parts are cut off and it has some decorative strokes, but (with the help of a dictionary) it looks kinda like:

"Amat vir/vis

et quod

?????"

Amat = he loves

Vir = man, husband, hero, lover, soldier etc...

Vis = strength

et = and

Can't quite figure out what "quod" is supposed to mean without the last word(s)..

So I would guess "the man/strength he loves and ????" or "the man/strength and ????? he loves" or something along those lines. Bear in mind though I don't speak a lick of Latin  :derp:

Conclusion: we're gonna need those pants to come down a little lower, Mr. Kim  :raep:

Hmm... All I know is that "ama et fac quod vis" means "love and do whatever you please"... but that's not what his tattoo says so I guess I didn't help  much with the translation, sorry... ^^

Am I the only one who doesn't think Kaisoo and Taekai are anything more then friends? Kai pretty much treats them the same, and a lot of the things I've seen him do with them (like the skinship for example), I've seen him do with the other exo members as well (but a lot of it gets ignored in favor of bigger ships). I think Kai is just an overall affectionate guy.

Put the things I quoted in a spoiler, didn't want my post to be too long:

I agree with you, I think Taemin does have some body/face image issues. After the manager thing, he was like "Oh no I hope this won't cause misunderstanding, because I look like this." Like you said, Taemin knows he is good looking, but I think he wants to be a more masculine type of good looking, and not the prettier type that he is. I don't think he really likes being "pretty" because people judge him for it (hince "Pretty Boy").

I would replace Siwon with Ravi, since Siwon is close with Exo in general, esp. Suho. Seriously tho, how durr you forget Ravi?

And yeah, Kyungsoo does seem close with quite a few suspected gay idols, either he is LGBT friendly or there is something there.

Yes! Beef Bros is love, Beef Bros is life! :ilove:

Lol this is the second time I've seen Baekhyun kiss someone in Exo.

I agree. I think Baekhyun could be straight or bi, but I am leaning a bit more towards him being straight, just a bit lol.

Probably. :hurr:

tumblr_n63jzpaYTr1rtcg5go1_400.gif

Kyungsoo: "When we were trainees, Chanyeol and I would fool around and play mixed martial arts and though it hurt, I’d contain it. But I could not surrender. Chanyeol would even more deeply use his skills. I felt like I visited heaven for a bitâ€

I agree with this. I think there are more gay idols then some think (ex. people who think there are none ), but I don't think it is as much as some people in this thread think. I doubt companies  (like SM for example) are going to go out of their way to find gay/bi idols and/or reject straight ones. As long as you have the potential to make them money, most companies don't care about sexual orientation. Whether you are straight/bi/gay/les/whatever, they probably don't care, just don't get caught dating.

Idk, when I saw the video of this, it looked more like he was just not looking or trying not to look, more than disinterest. Not saying that this has anything to do with sexual orientation. If Taemin is indeed straight (or bi), I think he may be pulling an Exo.

Ikr. For some reason, I don't think he is gay. Have no idea why. :derp:

You're not the only one. For me, Kai seems straight. Taemin and D.O. are questionable at times, but most of the time they look straight as well. But even if they're not... neither Kaisoo or Taekai seem like a real couple at all.

I was wondering where to ask this but I guess this is the best thread to do so. I know some people think that in Western countries LGBT is more accepted (and it is of course to an extent) but don't you think there's some interesting things to think about?

For example in Western countries it's weird if a male likes a boy band or male singer and fanboys over him right, people will think he is gay. But in Korea there's fanboys of groups (like Ren in my bias group NU'EST likes G-Dragon, Minhyun likes DBSK, etc) and it's normal, people didn't think anything about it, and just that it's okay, because it's nice to have a role mode or look up to someone. But why is it in Western countries it's seen as gay? Because insecurity with sexualities? Doesn't that make it interesting? The country where it's more "accepted" is even more judgmental in this sense.

I hope this makes sense, I really am not good at explaining this at all.

It's the same in Korea as well. There have been several posts about how when boys go to fansign events they lie that they were sent by their sister so people won't think weirdly of them for liking an idol group.

Also, those posts about boys liking D.O. all go like "omg I like D.O. so much, he's cute but I AM NOT GAY!!!"

Sorry if that was a bit off topic! To make it more on topic are there any idols you think are possibly bisexual?

the ones I find the most possible are:

Junsu (JYJ)

Jonghyun (SHINee)

Jackson (GOT7)

Myungsoo (Infinite)

Baekho (Nu'est)

Mir (MBLAQ)

Xiumin (EXO)

maybe Baekhyun (EXO)

possibly G-Dragon, but sometimes I lean towards thinking he is actually gay rather than bisexual.

Lee Joon. Maybe. He seems straight 99% of the time, but he also seems like someone who wouldn't mind "experimenting" with guys.
