Why not? People will dismiss it as friends posting photos celebrating their friendship. Perhaps it is risky and they're a bit playing with fire if they're really dating, but i think in general they're aware that the majority of people will not look too much into it (like when tae posted a photo with jang moonbok, first with his face away from the camera so you could only see his long hair which led to people freaking out and then with him facing the camera which led to people being "oh it's just a guy lol"). Of course they could very well just be friends.

In my eyes, that's more of a point for their LGBT slant than against, especially considering their "social justice" message/image. As an example, I believe that Suga sabotaged their paper passing game because he found it demeaning (that the entertainment industry will shovel out homo-eroticism for views but would blacklist an actually homosexual artist in a second).

I love Yoongi but I think you're giving him too much credit here lmao. He's not a fan of doing fan service, especially the obvious one (although he still does it sometimes) as the paper kissing game. I don't really see anything deeper into it.

 

I actually do agree with Starship being more inclined towards LGBTQ themes compared to Big Hit. All the instances of LGBTQ themes in BTS music videos have been pretty vague to be honest (I'm talking about Suga/Jungkook primarily as I've seen people say they're supposed to be a couple in the HYYH music videos) that could have easily been interpreted as platonic (which I don't see with that Monsta X video for example). The most they've gone towards unabashed, in your face, LGBTQ touch would be the BST video with Jin kissing a male statue.

I think it's a bit futile when they show ambiguous themes in the mvs but then completely contradict themselves in the lyrics like in monsta x's All in though. Also, never forget glam 

 

Although mv-wise, starship has done many more same sex couple themes, glam's debut is an actual gay anthemâ„¢ due to their lyrics. Gotta give it to sistar's one more day and kwill's please dont though since, at least in the latter, the artist himself has confirmed the storyline of the mv being centered around a gay main character

Well, yeah, but I was talking about music videos so lyrics are irrelevant at this point. Especially when you consider international fans who don't speak Korean and how much visuals are important in kpop. I never watched GLAM's music video but does it actually show what the lyrics say? Or is it more generic? Although your point in the contradiction part would apply to HYYH too then, considering I Need U. Starship has three music videos that have LGBTQ themes (if you really want to be picky we can take out the Monsta X video as I'm sure there are some fans who think it was just bros being bros) to arguably none from Big Hit. Mind you, i'm not trying to make this into a competition, I think I'm just rambling now lmao. I'll always appreciate Starship for Please Don't as it's still my fave LGBTQ kpop video.

To be fair, he wasn't aloof at all in 2013 (when that aired), in fact he did quite a lot of fan service back then (particularly with jimin and with the fans, something that later came to bite him in the ass lmao). I know he had a girlfriend pre debut as an old letter of his written for her surfaced last year. That's about it from what I can remember, but maybe other people know more. For the record i think he's bisexual but I also totally get if people would think he was gay.

Something I've always found interesting about Yoongi is that he is extremely determined to put the idea of male/male attraction out there, and not in a way that can easily be written off as fanservice. Yoongi awkwardly backed out of it when he noticed how uncomfortable/nervous Jin was (and then went and stated that he was also in an all boys school, which really didn’t help at all here whoops) Yoongi’s body language is interesting, he seems very apologetic after Jin responded negatively. And considering this video is almost three years old it makes sense that their reactions are different and less coordinated and supportive than what I believe they would be now; to me it looks like Yoongi was a lot more chill about the topic/implications than some others, but then realised he had to quickly retreat back into safe territory because the others were on edge.

they have to make an actual effort to hang out and spend time together. and there's no backstory that exists for a pair like TaeKai that could lend it the element of fanservice by playing up the friendship. they're not even in the same company.

I agree. Plus fan service is usually done to make people susceptible to fan service (usually fangirls) buy the product the people involved are selling. Idols within the same group do fan service because that's what fans want and what pushes them to buy albums and merchandise, look at fan signs for example. The questions BTS gets at fan signs are roughly 70/80% about shipping, and the members indulge the fans by answering these questions (as well as fan service based between the member and the fan, members saying they won't get married in a 1000 years or they don't plan on dating is also another form of fan service).

 

Taehyung and Bogum are not in a project together. I'd say actors doing a drama together may also do fan service (but not on the same level as idols) but why would Taehyung and Bogum do that? The only other plausible explanation would be Taehyung latching on Bogum's relevance (Bogum is much more relevant than Taehyung as an individual in Korea) but I doubt it. I think they share those photos for no ulterior motive.

I'm not saying his answer means he's not bi, of course I know better than to take what idols say about that stuff at face value, but I pointed this out because in Suga's case, there's a common narrative which is that his famous quote and that tongue lyrics (which btw are basically the only things people bring up as "receipts" for him, unlike other obvious ones like Jo Kwon or Heechul) were his way of revealing his bisexuality and he's totally cool with it and tries to be as open as he can about it. Tacking on this no homo statement at the end of his answer doesn't go with the overall image that he has in this thread, that's all.

I agree honestly (also I don't think you or anyone else was freaking out over this). Honestly I think his statement was unnecessary (like I think it is with anyone who said similar stuff) but I'm not freaking out or anything nor do I think it's that important. But people like Jo Kwon, Heechul, and Jonghyun are a lot more open about their sexuality and I wouldn't lump Yoongi with them (on that note, Heechul and Jo Kwon coming out with similar no homo comments is different as people in Korea do speculate about them being gay but as far as I know it's not that prevalent with Yoongi, I've seen more people think Taehyung is gay than Yoongi). I meant the one where he talks about his ideal type. Like Yoongi isn't in the same place as people like Jo Kwon, Amber or Heechul as these three have constant gay/lesbian rumors since they debuted. Yoongi doesn't, not even among k-fans or just the example I provided of a gay community (but of course I could be wrong, my Korean is limited and I stumbled upon that site by accident).

It always baffles me when people say so confidently Jikook is fan service. You could say all the ship interactions we see on screen are fan service, for example the Taejin interactions during So What at the recent concerts is blatant fan service. At this point it's pretty obvious that what's fan service or not is subjective. But Jungkook and Jimin have hung out quite often off camera that to write it off as just fan service is ridiculous at this point.

 

Either way, I don't want to turn this into a ship war. To stay on topic, I'm not entirely sure about Taehyung. Sometimes I think he's gay, sometimes I think he's bi. But he's def not straight.

This thread is fascinating in how it's shifted in conversation from 'who's gay and receipts' to a general discussion to what's allowable and if shipping is okay. In an inherently shameless conversation, many posters have shifted into a different mode of what's wrong with slapping suspect on everything(on a slapping suspect on everything thread) and how much it matters who's doing the slapping and what their intent is.

 

 

I think it really shows how no matter what, this is only a good time until you remember real people are involved, and then it becomes itchy and seems to become a convo about intention.

 

Can't for the life of me get most people to discuss (discuss, not needing to convince; desire to engage, truly) more on the specifics of Taehyung and JK's consistently intense relationship through the years, as opposed to the 'nah, they're not together because I'm not feeling it' that seems to come out reflexively. I know it's largely because of my style - I am so aggressive even when trying not to be it's unavoidable - but something about this pair and their shipping ubiquity triggers a particularly 'NOPE not going there that's where them dirty shippers live' reaction.

 

Perhaps this matters to me because they themselves seem to be fighting for legitimacy and are playing a heartbreaking game with the outside world that comes out via BTS's insane level of engagement, but of course going that deeply into it must be a shipper's illusion. I'd be insulted -this is not my MO - if I didn't understand where this reaction came from, although I think there's a disconnect here.

 

Back to the topic, since it seems more the type of sus info that people engage with, there is a clip out there that is one step too far to me to post (if you're interested and a conversationalist on this thread I'll send it via dm) of JK and Taehyung dancing at a fan meet (most shippers cut it before the end because it probably makes them uncomfortable in how blatantly sexual it is), Tae's lead and hand on JK's ass.
