Which male idols do you think are gay?

Hi everyone!!

 

I've been lurking this thread for a week or two now trying to catch up and I looove reading your guys' theories (and I can safely say that I've been converted into a Taohun believer, sorry not sorry)    

 

I pretty much agree with the most commonly suspected idols (Tao, Sehun, Jaejoong, Yunho, Jokwon, Sungjong, Heechul, Kevin, etc.). Jonghyun, Baekhyun, sooometimes Luhan, and Soohyun have also pinged slightly. But idk, I'm just coming back from a 2-year kpop hiatus and I have so much to catch up on .__.

 

Who I'm REALLY interested in is Myungsoo, because he's really toying with my mind. I've seen a lot of people here suspecting him to be gay or bi, and the K-fan who said gay Koreans basically know that he's gay really intrigued me. Someone even described him as an "open secret" in Korea if I recall correctly. And there was that whole Doyeon scandal that seemed pretty obviously and terribly staged (I'm totally behind the theory that it was to extinguish gay rumors tbh, especially with him turning down WGM multiple times). For some reason though, I just... can't say completely that he's gay? I know bisexuality isn't as common in men, but it's not like it's a unicorn or anything. I just think back to that video where he's drawing his ideal type and fanboying about some character Inoue Mao portrayed in a movie (he also drew a guy though so idk). He seemed very honest there.

What I've often seen mentioned is his lack of interest in women. This isn't conclusive evidence imo -- I'm a straight girl but I'm pretty darn awkward around guys I like to the point of avoiding eye contact and interaction, and I'm very comfortable with girls. Everyone is different -- I mean look at Sungjong, he talks to girls at the same level of effort as breathing and we're all pretty certain he's gay. I have seen evidence of Myungsoo looking super bored and uninterested in some women (like that awkward half-hug gif and that video where they dance with Rainbow), but who's to say he isn't uninterested around the right girl? There's probably so much that goes on behind the scenes that we'll never see. I've seen some fancams of him staring at girls too -- not that this concludes anything, but at least he notices them. Maybe I just need more evidence? I'll admit, I'm a relatively new Inspirit.

 

One thing that really made me stop and consider that he might be bi/gay is his thing with DBSK. Some source said that he was an official member of Cassiopeia, he's a Jaejoong fanboy, and the reason he even took up photography in the first place was to open a Jaejoong fansite. If this is true, then this is a pretty obvious hint. I mean seriously, a straight guy dedicating himself to taking photos of and running a website for a hot male celebrity? I don't buy it   But I have to admit I'm a bit wary of the source...

 

Myungjong has definitely given me pause. There are two fancams

 that just made me feel totally uncomfortable lol, my heart started racing. I swear to god the way Myungsoo stares at him sometimes, like tone it down man   And the way Sungjong snaps into hyper-awareness mode scanning for cameras... what other explanation is there for that honestly? I don't think mere friends would be so cautious about getting caught, considering they know all about fanservice. Very suspicious. The thing that holds me back though is that in other backstage fancams they just don't seem to care about one another at all... though I've heard they frequently go out together, so idk.

 

 

 

So I'm just wondering what is it that makes people think Myungsoo is gay? Are there some videos/interviews/something of Myungsoo that really ping? I see claims about him being 100% gay but I feel like I need something more. I'm leaning on bi.

I'm like 99% sure I'm the K-fan who described his sexuality as an open secret (or at least one of the K-fans who did) so I thought it'd be appropriate for me to answer you~ I've also been an Inspirit since Infinite's debut, which I just thought I'd mention in order to give some insight into how long I've liked them and precisely how long I've thought this for 

 

Addressing one of your first points, I agree someone being awkward around the opposite sex is by no means conclusive proof at all, but for me there is a contrasting difference between being awkward and just being uninterested. When Myungsoo is around some guys, he doesn't just look comfortable, he turns into a giant flirt and clearly puts the moves on. I can't say I have ever seen him do that with a girl - and if his ideal type is to be believed (innocent girl with long wavy hair) then there's no shortage of the 'right girl' around him at any given time. 

 

I don't want to comment too much on his relationship with Sungjong (because we could seriously be here all day) but because you touched on how they are behind the scenes, I wanted to add that it is very much true that when they're not working they go out together all the time, which I don't think they'd even consider doing if they didn't care about each other. In fact, they just went out to dinner to a restaurant together a few days ago: source (though it's in Korean). 

 

But it does highly depend on what you mean by ping to be honest. He's obviously not a highly flamboyant person and I guess that kind of falls back on the discussion about stereotypes that we just had here. There is one interview that immediately comes to mind though and while it's not at all something I enjoy talking about I think it's highly fitting.

 

 

Now one reason I highly, highly respect Myungsoo (and there are a lot of reasons) is that during this interview he didn't do what so many male idols have done before him and insult the LGBT+ community while scrambling to give a 'convincing' sounding answer. Every time I've seen other idols asked this question they say something horribly offensive like "Of course I'm not gay. I'm a normal guy. Every normal guy likes women". He also didn't punch the hosts in the face, which I think is quite the achievement. But in all seriousness, those last two gifs are physically hard for me to watch. It is written all over his face how uncomfortable he is and as someone who was outed by a douche bag like Shindong it physically makes my stomach turn. It's especially awful when you pair it with the fact that they did the exact same thing to Sungjong the very next time Infinite appeared on Beatle's Code. They also didn't do it to any other member either - just those two. Makes me think they knew exactly what they were doing.

He's also really good with his fanboys - sometimes even doing extra fanservice for them. Like in this video where he made a point of approaching a gay fanboy in a sea of fangirls and i'm like 99% sure he made that boys year tbh.

Hong Seokcheon said on a radio show yesterday that recently he's got interested in Myungsoo & he has talked to him on the phone once. Hong Seokcheon said Myungsoo most likely will not betray him like Jo Insung (in other words by getting a serious girlfriend like he did) & he likes Myungsoo because MS is handsome. HSC said he told Jaejoong that he's fan of Myungsoo and likes him so Jaejoong calls Myungsoo on the phone and let HSC talked to Myungsoo.

 

Those are just a few of the reasons I think Myungsoo is gay and not straight or bi. I wish I could have touched on everything, but I couldn't possibly, so hopefully this covers it

I totally agree with your points and I just wanted to ask some questions. This thing with Myungsoo being an open secret -- when/how did it start? Is this mostly a thing among K-fans? I'm compelled to ask for evidence and/or more explanation but I get the feeling it's one of those instances where K-fans will always know more than the rest of us =u= I remember your comment awhile back where you talked about having info about Myungsoo (and Sungjong? idr) that you didn't want to share, so if it's related to that then that's fine if you choose not to tell. Respecting privacy is always first. 

 

His reaction on Beatle's Code definitely caught my attention, like the second he realized the implication of the question it kind of looked like he went pale or thought "oh shit". I think his reaction was as good a reaction as one can give in that situation. Good on Myungsoo. Now if I could just punch the MCs...

Regarding that, what kind of gender pronouns does Myungsoo usually use to describe his ideal type and such, or does it matter? The gifset here says "someone" but in the subbed video I watched it says "girl", so I'm just curious. I know Sungjong's use/lack of pronouns is one (of many) reasons why I first suspected him. And I'm sorry that happened to you :( I had a similar situation except with gay NSFW fanfiction that I wrote... Not fun.

 

 

Maybe this is OT, but I was wondering if you can confirm if that thing about Myungsoo taking up photography because of Jaejoong is true or not? The credit is from someone named @mainvocal. I reaaally want to believe it lol. And lastly because I can't stop asking you questions, do you know of any websites in English that dedicate themselves to Myungjong info like that fanaccount of them eating together? My opinion on Myungsoo is that he is gay. He is just really obviously attracted to men.

He can't hide it and doesn't  even try that hard to. There is a really sexual vibe that he gives off sometimes when he is touching or being touched by other guys beyond any of his ships or fan service moments.

 

He could be bi but if he is attracted at all to girls then he hides it really well because I have never once seen him look like he could be sexually interested in a woman. He has fanboyed over a few of them like Inoue Mao but in a very innocent way.

 

When straight guys are shy and awkward around girls they are especially shy around girls that they are attracted to. When Myungsoo gets especially awkward with girls it is usually because they are being obviously attracted to him. It is like he doesn't know what to do and just wishes that they would stop.

 

Here is an example where he notices that Naeun is staring at him and gets really awkward. Then he moves away from her and even opens his umbrella up to block her view.

I had to laugh at that Myungeun video, it's like he went "uh oh, girl likes me, duck and cover". And people still ship them and Myungzy I just don't get it seriously   I guess when I said I've seen him look at girls, it was from afar, just watching in his Myungsoo-esque way. Most of them were from ISAC too, so who knows what he was thinking... and for all I know he could've been thinking nothing at all. He seems like a daydreamy guy.

 

Do either you or milk-caramel have some more evidence of Myungsoo being openly flirty with guys, preferably not with his own members? I watched the Running Man episode where he throws puppy-eyes at Yonghwa and that ISAC vid where he gets up to go flirt with Siwan from ZE:A (though naturally I'm reluctant to say they were flirting as he could have just been expanding his friend base, but who knows). I know there are more that I haven't seen yet.

1. what gifset are you referring to? i checked the whole post you were responding to and couldn't find a gifset of myungsoo talking about his ideal type. (in general i think that gifs are better subbed because more care goes into them in order to express the moment, where in videos the fans are trying to slap on subs and get them out as soon as possible)

I'm curious what makes you think Jaejin may be on the list. Even through my days of intense in-group shipping and fanfic-writing, I've never seen Jaejin as anything but straight. I understand that him being my ultimate bias may cloud my perception, but now even through more objective eyes he just seems like a metro straight guy. He is vocal about his past relationships (with girls) and how they inspire his lyrics, not to mention his completely unabashed fanboying over Suzy, IU, and now Irene. I won't deny that he could be bi, but his attraction to girls is obvious to me. I'm not sure if I've ever seen him check out a guy but he's definitely checked out girls. He's good friends with Key if that makes any difference.

 

Jonghun seems straight to me as well, but I could see him being bi. I was wondering what makes you think he's gay though? He seems to show attraction to girls, at least.

 

The only one that really ever pinged me is Hongki, and I think there's a strong chance he's bi. There's his friendships with Heechul and Hong Suk Cheon, for one. Then there's his idgaf attitude, which makes me think he'd be down to experiment. There's another thing I remember from a long time ago and I tried really hard to find it to no avail ;-; but it was a selfie he took and you can see he's wearing a button with two male figures (like the ones you see on bathroom walls) holding hands. I mean this could mean a whole lot of things (he's actually LGBT, he just dgaf, etc), but at the very least he's supportive of the community   He's another member who's vocal about his past relationships with girls though but he's kind of vocal about everything

Exactly! Even with the other girls in the show, there's no romantic/sexual chemistry. I also noticed it in Secret Garden and maybe I'm wrong but it seemed like he might've had something for Secret Garden's male lead. Maybe he just has more energy on-screen with boys rather than girls. Apparently he said in an interview that he isn't gay but those gay vibes are too strong for me to ignore. But seriously, the dynamic between him and Han Hyo Joo is making me not want to watch the show lol

I know it's one of those things you have to take with a grain of salt, but apparently most of what the insider said came true... Just some food for thought. Personally I believe both relationships are fabricated by SM to some degree, regardless of what their relationships to each other are. They're both just too suspicious for me to think otherwise.
