The revolution will not be televised.

Chinese government censors are cracking down on television programs that feature “tattoo artists, hip-hop culture, subculture (non-mainstream culture) and funeral culture (decadent culture),†according to news portal Sina.

Rappers PG One and GAI, who were both featured on the massively popular show “Rap of China,†have been sanctioned for content that runs counter to Communist Party values.

PG One was recently forced to make a public apology for lewd lyrics in his song “Christmas Eve,†while GAI was dropped from the television program “The Singer†with no reason given, Reuters reports.

China’s top media regulator, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China (SAPPRFT), outlined rules for television stations Friday that include not using actors “whose heart and morality are not aligned with the party and whose morality is not noble.â€

Hip hop culture, which is relatively a new phenomenon in China, has risen to prominence among Chinese youth largely due to the success of shows like “Rap of China.â€

According to the BBC, “Rap of China†was viewed more than 2.5 billion times 2017 on China’s largest video streaming website, IQiyi.

China also recently banned a number of popular Western artists from performing in the country, including Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and Maroon 5 for their ties to the Dalai Lama, and Justin Bieber for “bad behavior.â€

The whole original point of rap was to roast people, policies, etc. It was an art form before it became entertainment. China just wants to ban all criticism of the government.

When it comes to Chinese pop rap, they doesn't dis people, socal or politic. Even from Taiwan or Hong Kong pop. Taiwan or Hong Kong do have dissing but it will consider underground. A very niche market. Never been mainstream(in term of charting). It is alway oppas unnies saranghe rap from mainstream. It is the reality, not correctness I am stating. Even Kpop is like this.

This sentence is something I'd expect from a fundamentalist Islamic state.
