I Think Me And My Sibs Watched Probably The Most Racist TV Show Of All Time...

It was SO RACIST. It was the most racism we have ever seen in our whole lives. Like ACTUAL racism. It's called Black Lightning.

The first episode featured the man who plays BL and he's getting arrested for no good reason by white cops. He's forced out of the rain and then he says "THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS MONTH" as if he's living in some 1950's racism times. Then he's let go because he was mistaken for some other man and then he screams at the police officer "SO WAS THE DESCRIPTION A BLACK MAN IN A VOLVO CAR?!?"

The policeman looks at him like "Um goodnight sir" and leaves. But that's lowkey. What happens next is what made all of us shocked.

In the next scene he has a daughter right? So she and her friend using their cliche "AAVE" accents sneak out to a club where there's blasting rap music (yeah because all black people listen to rap music) and she chats it up with this stranger (who is a black boy and using all of his fiberous being to sound urban and cool) and he's talking to her, but instead it's a ploy to drag her into some private room where the "boss" is (as a total shock it will be to you, he is the head of a gang and sells drugs). BL finds out she's at the club and goes to the "boss" door but is prevented by the guard. He asks twice to get inside but the guard isn't having it and pulls out his gun. This makes the man turn into BL by get this - GETTING ANGRY. A BLACK SUPERHERO MAN GETTING HIS SUPERPOWERS BY GETTING ANGRY. WOW.

So the BL beats the guard and his security up and everything is chaotic by everyone including his daughter, so he escapes to mask any attention to himself by leaving out the back door and gets caught by - surprise surprise - white cops. Who even knows why they pick him, there were dozens of people running out the back door but they pick him for some reason. And OF COURSE they are racist af, but even this was taking it too far. When BL was trying to talk it out they just ignored him and one even yelled "GET YOUR BLACK ASS ON THE GROUND NOW!"

And of course this triggers BL so he gets even more angry and kills the cops. The news cover it the next morning and some black spokesman is talking about how the world isn't prepared for a black superhero because racism of course. BL's daughters go to school and they are approached by the boy who tried to take her to his boss to sell her! The daughter tells him to fxxk off and then he has the NERVE to yell "WHY DO YOU BLACK GIRLS ALWAYS HAVE SOME NASTY ATTITUDE?!?!?" in her face. Then her sister comes up to protect her and he gets pissed off and low and behold he reaches in for his gun but their father prevents it from happening and tells him to go away. The boy vows revenge in his super urban black speech way and dashes off.

Like 15 minutes after that he DOES come back like he promised with all his thugs (and guns ofc) and KIDNAPPS THE DAUGHTERS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS! BL finds out and goes to rescue them but is stopped by the boy's boss' goons and kills them all, beats up the boy kidnapper, saves the daughters, yadda yadda end of story. I'm not here to discuss the plot but what was in it. Black cliches everywhere, guns and violence, they're talking as if they're the same, drugs, cliche epic "rap music" in the background of fight scenes, you name it! It's all there. We couldn't believe it was enough to get on the air. Oh and literally everyone who is black is darkskinned as if all blacks look like that except this one guy, this ONE GUY....and he's the villain :imstupid: I actually just realized that connection just now, wow. Anyway this turned into a rant, so sorry about that. I just wanted to share this horribly offensive TV story.

Hmm...I haven't watched it yet but I heard a piece on NPR where they were interviewing the director and some of the actors (all black). From what I gathered it is supposed to play off of stereotypes to make people think. The villain is an albino black man so the show can talk about stereotypes and prejudices while faced with a black man who feels like an outcast because he isn't black.

Wait, he killed the two cops in the ally? I thought he just roughed them up. He does seem to be more like season 1 Arrow/Oliver Queen and be willing to kill. He held a thug in front of him as a human shield for bullets.

The thing in the episode that made the least sense was the daughter flirting with that guy at the club. He looked so damn filthy and unattractive.

I can't with your post calling the series racist, it's a show that added the social issues black people face in many communities.

I just looked it up and he looks a lot like Static

Black Lightening series was created first, it became a theory after the Static series came about that he might be his dad but not really. Black Lightening was also DC's black superhero.

yeah sure. everyone is into gangs, everyone is doing drugs, everyone listens to rap music at clubs, every black person is darkskinned, every black man is angry...

Sounds ridiculous tbh...

it really is, lmao
