So apparently:

- Suzu: he's very passionate about creating characters.

- He went to Japan 'cause in America actors at age 15-16 mostly do comedy as opposed to Japan where he felt that he could get better roles

- He was initially rejected for Arata 'cause he couldn't act. He had them explain what he was lacking, fixed it in 2 weeks and then re-auditioned and got accepted.

- He had a part time job back when he was auditioning for Arata.

- And he changed his surname to Arata 'cause Chihayafuru had that much impact on his acting career.

- Played karuta like crazy while filming Pacific Rim. Gained 16 kg of muscles.

- He thinks that he's better off not acting out the roles that don't require much change from him. Will do anything for a role.

Woah! Glad that he was able to impressed them in his 2nd audition!

Also just saw Pacific Rim: Uprising. Not enough of Mackenyu, but I enjoyed it. Wish there's more of him. I got to see him talk in English which was good.
