GEM, an 11 member idol group belonging to Avex’s “iDOL STREET†will disband in the spring, Nikkan Sports and Yahoo! Japan reporters have learned today.

The group, which formed in 2013 and recently celebrated its 4th debut anniversary, will officially conclude its activities.

After it was discovered that members Murakami Rana (19) and Iyama Maho (18) had been  involved in contract-violating activities, it was announced on December 18th that the two members would be placed on indefinite hiatus. Following this, all group activities were cancelled. According to stakeholders, after various talks regarding the futures of the remaining members, a decision has been made to officially dissolve the group.

An official announcement is expected soon.

What were the contract violating activities?

No one really knows since management never actually gave any details.

We just know that Rana and Maho were eating dinner with this guy one night and ended up on his instagram story.

There's more detail on the whole incident here

Very sad to see, but also not surprised.

I hope Rana pursues a solo career, I love her voice

Don't we all? She's like the whole package.

She can sing, dance, and pretty much make her own songs too. Avex is letting a real gem go (no pun intended).

And that's why we knew the group was doomed when she went on "hiatus". It was a Hashimoto Kana type situation, the majority of the fanbase were her fans.

Thanks for the link. I thought a guy might be involved somehow.

oh wow... not surprised but still i'm so sad. i kinda stopped following japanese idols a while ago, but i loved gem (and istreet as a whole) so much. i watched those girls debut and they always had so much potential it's upsetting to see it ending up like this.

i hope there's still plans for the girls that weren't involved in the scandal? assuming rana and maho's contracts are gonna be terminated (although i really wish that isnt going to be the case)

it ended up on my twitter some article that said they were planning to shuffle around some girls in idol street. it'll be interesting if that's true

Are you sure? Because it seemed they were biased for Kana from the start.

In case anyone was interested, the official post

Looks like management also decided that it would be a final live with 9 members only.

MahoLana won't even be there at the disbandment live.

This is just ridiculous.
