Have you ever felt like crying because of one line in a song?

at 1:30 when Baekhyun sings "Now you're not alone

Don't be lonely anymore, morning will come as usual"

like he just sings that line with such conviction

and his vocals are so powerful that it actually gives me palpitations

This song overall is very powerful like it always leaves feeling some type of way

I can't explain but that line is just... it's a lot

only when sang in a language i understand first hand, because only then i can really fully relate

an example would be this song

basically, this song is about wars and how badly they affect innocent people's life but they way the song touches the subject is by telling a story of a childhood friend, a little boy, she used to play with the snow with but then a war erupts and kept coming closer and closer to their town and one day the little boy, his name is Shaady, decided to go watch the fighting, she kept calling for him to come back but he wouldn't listen and that's the last time she saw him.

now the part that always makes me tear up starts @ 2:04

literally it says: and the snow came back and then it went away, 20 times it came and went away (the snow symbolizes winter so this means 20 years have passed)

and i kept growing up but Shaady stayed little, playing with the snow.

omg I actually wanted to tell you something for the longest time lol

I saw what you said about kpop lyrics in the, was it the rant thread?

you said that it's impossible to fully appreciate lyrics in languages that you don't speak

because there's more to lyricism than just meanings behind the words, and while I agree

I also think the vocals the intonation, can play in the appreciation you have for a song?

like for example this line baekhyun sang in Light outs, when I first heard it

I didn't understand obviously but it hit just as hard, harder even

idk I never properly studied music but that's just how I feel

the last line seulgi sings. it makes me emotional not because of what she says but because of the intensity of her voice and the feelings she puts to it. i love red velvet warstarplz.png

I know exactly what line you're talking about

I Just is another one of those song that instantly left a strong impression on me

The first week when I was listening to Perfect Velvet I'd constantly comeback to this song

like the instrumental is so dark and kinda mysterious but the lyrics are so comforting

I never knew how meaningful that song is until I saw the Lights Out FMV. That song is way too relatable and I terribly need comfort whoch I got from that song. Thanks Chen for making the lyrics of it.

I strongly recommend reading all the lyrics on Universe if you haven't already

each song have comforting lyrics in different kind of ways, it's the most relatable Exo album

Knowing that Chen wrote the lyrics, only made me appreciate Lights Outs more

I think for now it's actually my fav on Universe

Chen really wrote beautiful lyrics for that.

His collab with Dynamic Duo was another one, tho he didn’t write the lyrics for it.

The whole thing talks about a kind of pervasive depression that many people have. Where Chen’s part comes in the chorus and with the lyrics it just opens up the dams. I remember listening to it when I was in a bad patch and couldn’t help crying. It’s one of those really meaningful songs I wish he makes more of.

Long ago when I used to be a lot more down I listened to a lot of Damien Rice. I have never found another artiste like him. He has a lot of great songs about being depressed, Grey Room, Sleep Don’t Weep. But this one hits the hardest.

i absolutely agree, i don't think anyone would appreciate music as much if vocals and projection of the emotions were not an important part of it.

what i said in the unpopular opinion thread was solely about the smartasses people would try to use lyrics written in a language they don't even understand as a gauge of song quality or to put certain groups down while raising others up laugh.png

" Somehow, today I don't want to send you away. Today might be our last day"

and

3:22

It is relatable

and also

1:27

"I won't love like a fool"

I love her ballads so much. So heart-tugging

Her "omma" at 2:40
The whole performance is filled with so much emotions. Makes me want to understand the language to appreciate the song more

There's this song called 1-800-273-8255, it's literally the number for suicide prevention lifeline. The chorus changes from "I don't wanna be alive" then to "I want you to be alive" then finally the line that really made me cry the first time I heard it was "I finally wanna be alive". It still makes me teary that part.

lyrically I can truly appreciate/understand only songs in my native language, but as for the sounding (and k-pop)... I have a few moments that really touch my heart but not in painful way - the bridge and the very end of EXO's My Turn To Cry for example

as for the making cry... Chanyeol's rap in Promise got to me very much...

I actually not the kind of person to cry bc of the songs, I mean, it rarely happenes and usually only bc of my sad thoughts that were triggered by the whole song (I also cried a lot imagining super dramatic scenes for Naruto listening to epic synphonic metall music lol)

a bit ot, but one example of a songs that hit me with lyrics, under spoiler

it is Ukranian (singing in Russian) group Fleur, almost all their songs are kinda depressing or melancholic.. This one called "renovation" (as like renovation of the room/flat/bulding) and _in my opinion_ it is about how had changed the place she grew up in, how everything changed and changes, and there is the piece of lyrics that for some reason makes me super sad and eve cry (very rough translation, I suck at it):

"I know things live on their own

When you don't watch them

And the world is moving behind your back

As soon as you turn away (from it)

Like how I looked aside for a moment

And everyone's around me became different"

it is on 1:44 here

======

also they have pretty popular song, it doesn't make me cry, but it is creepy as fuck and suuuuper cool, there are videos with Eng subs, I don't find the translations very satisfying and i dont have time for this now, but you can get the idea from it, amazing song, I know all the lyrics by heart~~

She will not come, dogs tore her apart,

She was beaten to death by the skinheads,

The ice treacherously broke (under her).

Her hands were not prepared for fight,

And she had no will to win,

I'll be instead of her now.

She floats in formalin

Imperfection of lines

Slowly moving around.

I have her face, her name

The same blue pullover

No one noticed the substitution

She will not come, her hands were in the viper's den

Her head was in a bee hive

And her back was in an ants nest

Now it will be me. I am built in more durable way

I am worthy to take that place

And I do many things better (than her)

She floats in formalin

Slowly moving around

In the white cloudy fog.

I have her face, her name

No one noticed the substitution

(I am)Checking the keys in the poket

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong

I don't know who these people are

My smile is a little strange

They will suspect that I'm not her, that I'm another

I don't know what will happen then

I'll pretend that I'm sick or drunk.

She floats in formalin

Imperfection of lines

Slowly moving around.

I have her face, her name

The same blue pullover

No one noticed the substitution

"You know it all, you're my best friend" bc i love singing along to it but i can't relate fjskslf

Also when yoongi said he was already dead in the last, it felt like a truck hit me :(

and there's an animal collective song about a dog that died bc he fell from a tree and the lyrics tell it from a childlike point of view. when he sings "but you lay there so still, doggy" it makes me so sad omg :(
