waffles8000 541
ok i need to do this for an english project but basically i needed to put a moving video of flower petals on top of a painting so i managed to scan and edit the image of the painting i found a video of floating petals, made it a gif, cropped and resized it and i overlayed the gif onto the image the gif has a black background, which i want to get rid of and usually im pretty sure the "screen" overlay option thing can get rid of black backgrounds but it won't work and i'm not super familiar with gifs so can someone please tell me how to get rid of the black background of my gif and make it flow on top of the image? here are some images of what is going on rn:

indigo 16,433
You'll have to merged the background with every layer of the gif It'd be better to use a background less animation like one of these

lolnoo 4,483
idk if you still need help, but you need to convert the gif into a smart object and then change it to screen. so like this: so convert back to your timeline. you do that by pressing the little lines on the left bottom corner. then you highlight all your layers and click on the right little three lines. go down to convert to smart object. your picture doesn't have to be a smart object but it does need to also be in timeline. then you can either drag your picture to this work area or drag this smart object to the other work area: adjust it to how you want both parts to each other. the flower petal gif has to be on top. so then you're going to need to adjust the timing so they're both even. so just move that button thing on top: (i forgot to adjusted my gif to the way you were asking for help until this step lol sorry) then just change it to screen: remember to change the looping to forever and thats basically it. hopefully this is what you needed help with and this help you a bit .
