89? I've only just adjusted to the concept of 48 members in a single group and now you're telling me there's 89 of them?

I'm not really sure but I think, it became 89 because it has two teams = 48+48 = 89

48 for nmb48

First of all, they're different groups. Both part of the 48 franchise.

AKB is based in Tokyo (akihabara), and NMB is based in Osaka (namba). Different theater, different discography, different members.

There is also SKE based in Nagoya (sakae), HKT based in Fukuoka (hakata) and then the oversea groups SNH based in Shanghai and JKT based in Jakarta.

the girl at 0:22 is flawless. whats her name?

yamamoto sayaka

What Delincious said.

Additonally NMB can be distinguished from AKB in that they draw heavily from the local Osaka/Kansai culture to form their identity. That is especially noticable in terms of the heavy comedy MC and sketche focus NMB has (called Manzai that originates from Kansai).

Part of that direction can be also attributed to their managment through Yoshimoto, a local comedy company heavyweight, that gives the group a certain independence from the rest of the AKB franchise, that is managed by AKS.

And from a biased standpoint, NMB has a much cooler image they work with and a higher concentration of talented members. :datass:

Btw, here are the two songs that are the most "NMB": comes with leoprint costumes (a nod to the tiger print of the local baseball team Hanshin Tigers) and with Kansai dialect in the lyrics.

i like to think of NMB48 as the little sister version of AKB48, which is not really true since some of the girls are the same age + right now HTK48 takes the cake for having young members.

To further blow your mind:

As of March 2014

AKB has 84 members

SKE has 66 members

NMB has 63 members

HKT has 48 members

makes 261 girls in the Japanese groups.

That doesn't include Jakarta or Shanghai and is without AKB Team 8 because that is kind of a special team.

The trick is, you don't. I know like half of NMB and the most prominent members of the francise by (full) name. 30-40 names total maybe? The rest is just a amorphus blob I ignore. lol

It's also easier to just know them by their nicknames.
