I know this thread is old but today they had a press conference about LY:Tear. About why they censored the song Fake Love for radio play and during the BBMAs performance, Namjoon explained regarding "naega/niga" and the N word, and I quote miss vlissful's translation:

“There may be people listening to the song for the first time, but because the pronunciation [of naega and neega] may sound the same as the N word, we edited it along the line that didn’t change the meaning and memorized it.”

Although I wouldn't agree that they should have done that because it is their language and not their fault if Americans mishear/misinterpret it, this basically confirms the fact that they are informed of the issues surrounding the N-word.
