dux 3,142
Its frustrating. I feel frustrated for her. So what is it? Surely theyve came up with something good enough over the past few years

hee_woo 5,194
We don't know what's really happening behind the curtains, but it is frustrating. I've always thought she's one of the few Korean idols who actually have a chance to make it in America. I just hope she somehow manages to *properly* debut and do well. Sailor Mars 1,981
BTS blowed up her spot. On top of that, it seems like her management is scared of her not being a hit in America. When it comes to non-white foreigners, if you flop you're a joke, you can't come back from it. She should try to get on songs and features, go the nicki route. I think they may also realize that now might not be the perfect time to be a female rapper in America when you aren't Cardi/Nicki. And look at how much they get dragged for their rap skills. She, also, doesn't have IT. I know yall dont want to hear it but she doesn't have charisma, nothing draws you to her in her rapping, which is why they are scared. Debate with your mothers but you know i'm right and CL and management knows which is why they delayed her American debut.
silicon soul 19,457
She has pretty much debuted though: released a few songs under her name, been at events, appeared on TV, had ads including on YouTube, held tour and pretty much has a (poorly organised) team working for her in USA. That's as much if not more than what most solo idol debutees do already.
atlkpopfan 2,451
It depends on what you consider a "proper" American debut. This isn't Korea. There isn't some predetermined path or process you have to follow to make a debut. You pretty much have to just release music... which she has. There are no teasers and countdowns to new artists for most people. If you're a blessed enough to have a well known solid team behind you, that may happen. But that's not the case for most artists. She has already made a debut technically. She just hasn't started full blown promotions with an album.

I disagree on the flop part primarily because that only matters if you're already well known or at least you have a lot of buzz around you. No one here cares about someone they've never heard of flopping except kpop fans. Her biggest problem is that for some reason YG thought having her lose the buzz she'd accumulated over the years (from kpop fans) by focusing solely on America and not keeping the korean music promotions going was a good idea. I do agree on the features, but even for those, you have to have something to offer and I'm not sure if she does anymore since BJ's aren't that large anymore and she doesn't really have any new albums to promote I also disagree on her not having charisma. Her biggest selling point is her charisma and confidence on stage. However, she does lack lyrically as an actual rapper which she will get eaten alive for if she chose to push herself as only a rapper. This is why they push her as an entertainer instead. Her best bet is to promote as a pop artist.
YesIKnowRelax 3,614
They should have released an album by now she has a fair few songs and I know YG kept some of them from 2NE1's english album remember the one with Will.i.am so mad that never happened! It;s some bullshit
Ulmicola 1,981
Because Yang Hyun Suk and Scooter Braun are a shining example of incompetence, and because they probably think an Asian singer won't be able to make it overseas, even though BTS is kinda proving them wrong right now. She's confident, which is nice but nothing makes me think she will succeed. I can see her doing alright as a pop artist, I just wish YG didn't drop the ball on 2ne1 because that was the thing keeping her afloat and interesting. She shined because of them, they kept her interesting and made it seem much more than what she actually is. Honestly 2ne1 could have made it into America, CL as a solo can't because we've seen it all before. Symphonia 312
This was addressed in Livin' The Double Life I think. After 2ne1's disbandment, CL was struggling and kind of lost her confidence. She also goes to USA and SK back and forth, and the Scooter guy said if she wants to make it in US, CL needs to focus and stay in the US.
Amorria 25
I feel like YG hoped each of songs released by CL (or with her attendance) will become a huge hit in America but got slighty disappointed with how they turned out. Tbh I don't really think CL can make it at this rate. People are already joking about her previous attempts...

Only so much room for a female POC in America I guess it's just a matter of opinion on the charisma part. I pretty much agree that she would've done better if YG had kept 2ne1 consistently active and promoting, and that they could've done well in the US even as a kpop band (not one specifically targeting the US). I think all the points u mentioned that are against her could be used n her favour- now that BtS has been put on, there could be some leeway for other Korean artists to be accepted. - Female Rappers are coming to more prominence recently imo? Idk but before i could only name Nicki as relevant (and Iggy as a joke), now theres Cardi. CL shoukd bank off that but i agree she might be ztuck in the same zone as Iggy, ie not tajen serious. Her lyrics dont help I think shes got enough charisma. Its not crazy but certainly on the level of current popstars. BUT she doesnt have enough talent as a rapper imo. Not close It depends on what you consider a "proper" American debut. This isn't Korea. There isn't some predetermined path or process you have to follow to make a debut. She drops stuff, but i never feel the follow up or that theres an actual team working with her to promote it. Only so much room for a female POC in AmericaVery True. 2ne1 had way more of a chance and if they had went with that she could eventual detach as a solo if she wanted I feel like YG hoped each of songs released by CL (or with her attendance) will become a huge hit in America but got slighty disappointed with how they turned out. Tbh I don't really think CL can make it at this rate. People are already joking about her previous attempts... Yes i feel this so much. That YG is too pompous for their own good. Like he was hopjng somehow all they needed to do was drop a single and America would do the rest. Now that it hasnt worked their losing the zeal. Its how he manages his artists in Korea and now here

Fourever 3,231
CL has charisma and confidence but like someone mentioned, her confidence has decreased over the years. In 'Double life' I think she said she started to feel scared. I'm glad she's been doing things in Korea now to build her confidence back up. Idk how music industry will take to her rapping but she's not going for the full-rapping route. She's a good singer btw..I hope she sings a lot too. Lifted should have been her debut..liked that song. Oh well, I hope she comes out with an album she's proud of.
