Why does this girl from LOONA have a male name?

Talking about the girl named Yves

Why did they give her a masculine name, Because of the brand YSL or because it sounds pretty?

Since I'm a "French speaker" it's a bit strange to me, Couldn't they name her Eve or something more feminine?

The feminine versions of it is prettier and suits her pretty face more

Yvette

Yvelise

Yvette

Yveline or Yvonne

i think they were just trying to be unique/to foreign ears it does sound a bit like eve... which leads me to believe they might have been looking for an alternative spelling?

it's male name? didn't know. Maybe they didn't even know themselves when they gave her that stage name lmao

The other girls name sound unique and pretty to me, I wish they could've done more research on it

Yves doesn't fit her face she's too pretty LOL

Does a name really have to have a gender tbh? Plus it's really pretty.

It doesn't have a gender? It's called a masculine name because of it's origins and because it's mostly given to males

Yves is a masculine form (?) in French (not sure how to explain in English because I'm not too good at it)

It's used for girls too tho...

It is, But in France it's strange

It's not a unisex name though, Mostly masculine since it's given to males and has a meaning behind it

Not to sound mean, but I don't think that Loona's company care if the name sounds 'masculine' or 'strange' in France, when it's a pretty much a unisex name everywhere else.

I understand what you mean, since I do study French myself. But does it really matter that they decided to call her Yves instead of it's feminine forms? In the OP it sounds like you're trying to state that she shouldn't be called Yves just because it's a masculine name and because it's mostly given to males. It's just a name, what difference does it make if it's a masculine or feminine name? And plus it's not like they're French themselves...

Well every other country with it's own version of "Yves" is masculine

From German, French to Italian

It isn't a gender neutral name lol people might think it is because they aren't familiar with it
