I didn’t watch any of Produce 1 or 2, since I don’t really like that kind of shows. His physical attractiveness is the easiest to show in a comment, isn't it? Just post a picture and a gif and people will see what you're talking about. But Kang Daniel became known for his performance fancams and his kind, humble and hardworking personality. Those could all be seen in Produce 101. Like when he said an idol should be good at everything and work hard to be able to do that. Or when he helped others when they couldn't get the dance right. Or when he never asked to be center but prefered to take a role of leader even though he knew what kind of heavy responsability with little pay off that was. The reason I would say the other stuff is more important is because, like I said, the interest in him went up after the fancam. It wasn't a gif of him acting funny (there were enough by the time so it definitely could have) that blew up or pictures of him, it was a solo fancam, showcasing his proportions, dancing and his charisma. His dancing was great but not the greatest, so IMO his stage presence / charisma and proportions were the biggest factors in giving him his popularity. Even now a lot of the articles I see about him mention his proportions and celebrity-like aura / charisma so yeah. I see stuff about his personality too which is cool, but I think people got attracted by the other stuff first. Right now it could be different since he's already very popular, so maybe people will see a gif of him and think wow he's pretty funny maybe I should check him out. Yeah, we're kinda talking about two things here: how he got popular during P101 (which wasn't really the question that user asked so it's my fault I got into it without a reason) and how his popularity grew and gained fans after P101. Because for the first one it's simple, we both agree it was because of his fancams which showed his charisma and a star quality in performing. But after P101 ended and he started going on TV shows (the biggest example is DOTB) people noticed his cute personality more and that became a main attraction to him. Or not at all, his popularity take time to form. He first grabbed Korean attention for his performances, then his personality, and his gap image between Kang Daniel on stage and off stage. His visual only really made noise with his last P101 fancam "Open Up". But yet his popularity in the end of PD101 is far from his actual popularity, his actual popularity, largely come from the show "It's Dangerous Outside The Blanket" where we have been able to see many facets of his personality. Many things he wore or did in this show became viral in Korea, and he has launched numerous trends. His male fandom normal fr a male idol at the start but now is quite impressive especially for a 5 months old male idol and it keeps growing everyday. My mum isn't too into kpop but one day she joined me to watch Produce 101 and she noticed Daniel in Sorry Sorry Even though she kinda roasted his pink hair she thought he looked the best in a suit... long legs, broad shoulders and facial expressions during the performance was the things that caught her attention. Afterwards she basically watched all the performances of P101 but would ask me to put on the fancams of Daniel on youtube She likes Get Ugly and Open Up the most. My mum really liked watching DOTB since it showed off more of Daniel's likeable personality and it was funny seeing those awkward moments on the show. It's a shame that it's only 3 episodes Nowadays she's quite busy so she doesn't follow Wanna One that much... although sometimes I see her liking some photos of Daniel on facebook lmao Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

But even if I liked them all, I still wasn't a "fan". Also, Justice League stans were sf annoying lol, so my feelings towards Daniel couldn't be like a 100% fan. It put him in my personal top 11. But suddenly I started to save his pic in get ugly era and I suddenly get so crazy over him without realising it, because I remember I still save so many photo of Guanlin and Daehwi (both are my og pick). Then he help that youngest contestant. I like his attitude, he don't complain, and he do what he need to do while enjoying it. It was a nice change compare to how serious and nervous all other contestants are. And the way he look in this white shirt... BAM! And he got so little votes for this performance. One day she livestreamed ep 5 in my room and i asked her, “which one is daniel?†Bc i’ve seen a lot of ifans hyping him up in youtube comment section of nayana perf. She pointed him out to me and then...he smiled... i instantly rooted for him and confidently said to my sis, “trust me, this guy’s going to end up at least top 3.†With that charisma it was rlly clear... he did get my support with one smile. And then i started to watch the show and fell deeper for him every ep, until open up happened and it was like i was holding my breath the entire time it was livestreamed, that performance solidified him as one of my most loved biases.
