What are the credible source for tracking Physical sales of Japanese albums?

I just read an information from god of Japanese Entertainment industry that Oricon is not credible and out of touch for years, I don't follow Jpop so I don't know that and I feel that I've been lied to for all these years reading news of top Kpop groups sales like Big Bang, SNSD, EXO, BTS, Twice, BlackPink, etc. from Oricon.

In Kpop you have Gaon for shipping sales and Hanteo for real time sales, so what are the equivalent of that in Japanese physical sales if Oricon is not credible and out of touch?

It's either Oricon or Billboard Japan. Oricon has dumb rules set in place to counteract bulk buying, also they only display the daily sale count for the top 3 of each day.

Billboard Japan's been better at charting stuff imo, but of course you've got bulk buying to deal with. Billboard also has more sales estimates for physical.

Sometimes you have some weird clashing where sales don't exactly line up though between Oricon and Billboard, because they don't necessarily check all the same places for sales. I think there's been cases where Oricon's sales numbers were higher than Billboard, even though it's usually the other way around. I can't recall what it was for though.

So you think Billboard is more credible than Oricon?

So you think Billboard is more credible than Oricon?

They both have positives and negatives and they're sufficiently different from one another that it'd be best to look at both of them. I'm lazy though, and don't care enough about sales to obsess over it so I just check the oricon thread whenever there's an update posted since I'm already on this forum. Occasionally I'll look at the Billboard charts. Billboard is arguably more comprehensive, but they also incorporate youtube views and twitter into their Hot 100 calculations, so I don't know how much credit you want to put into that kind of stuff.

EDIT:

If you want an example of the dumb inconsistencies that happen between Billboard and Oricon:

As of writing this, currently, for Billboard, J Soul Brothers has a reported sold estimate of 105k, while on Oricon, the estimate is at 141k.

For Snuper, on Billboard, they have a reported sold estimate of 71k, while on Oricon, the estimate is at 33k.

And this is why people shouldn't be obsessing over charts, because even they can't it get it right.

Oricon takes sales record from more stores compared to billboard while billboard use extrapolation to predict total sales. (If i'm not mistaken. CMIIW)

That's why there are cases where sales for oricon is higher than billboard.

And for which is more legit, oricon sets limit that they will only count until only 20 CDs and no inernational sales while billboard counts everything, so it depends actually. If you want to know the actual sales, you will refer to billboard and if you want to know the total sales without being really affected with gimmicks, it would be oricon. I have an impression that oricon is probably more legit to japanese fans. AKB management (and fans) looks at oricon to see if the single is a 'failure' or not.

Billboard top 100 include streams and twitter so it's not legit if you are looking for pure physical sales.
