The suffering of everyone matters!

Talented, artistic, sensitive, open-minded, idealistic. Those words are not enough to describe Jonghyun, and he was so candid in voicing his struggles, and many times he expressed them through his music, his passion.

But of course, some people may wonder: Why? He had it all: fame, money, talent, was accomplished, had legions of people to love him. Thing is, there's more to celebrities than what we can see, than what gets reported on news sites. Just like you and me, they have a story filled with hapiness and sorrow, a story the vast majority of people will never know completely.

Wondering is okay. The awful thing is when people belittle other's suffering just because of those things. Sadly, I've seen comments like that countless of times within the k-pop community, and it's enraging each and every time.

People need to realize that regardless of what you are and what you've done, life is hard, and every person will have to put up with adversitity and their own demons. No one's path is the same, and just because someone is doing better than you, doesn't mean their adversities are irrelevant. Always be grateful for what you have, and don't be jealous of what others have to the extent of belittling their suffering in order to victimize yourself instead.

I hope that at least in the k-pop commnunity, I don't see comments like that EVER AGAIN. Instead, I see empathy, curiosity, and support.

Thank you for everything, Jonghyun!

Jonghyun lost a lifelong battle, and as someone whose family has denied her suffering just because she has lead a middle-class life (apparently, I wasn't alowed to feel like this because there are who don't have the material commodities I had, as if it was everything) I feel more determined than ever to do something with my life, and look forward for the future. I'll never forget the interview in which he said that you have to open yourself and not be engrained on these bad feelings in order to grow up as a person. He's all kinds of inspiring.

I remember that jonghyun had addressed this issue-also on blue night- about how others having seemingly greater problems doesn't make yours insignificant.

Sorry can't get a hold of the translation rn

Celebrities are consistently made to feel as if their suffering doesn't matter, as if they have no RIGHT to be depressed because they have fame, money, success... what more could they want? This kind of reasoning is so flawed and outrageous yet it is so prevalent. Mental illness can strike anyone at any given time, celebrities are not an immune strata of the population. On the contrary, they face hardships that we can't even pretend to understand, yet some have the NERVE to judge and brush off their suffering as if it is nothing. Despicable. Just look at the number of recent celebrity deaths directly linked to mental illness... if that doesn't give you an indication of the prevalence of mental illness in the entertainment world than I don't know what can. Something needs to be done, and urgently.

R.I.P. Jonghyun. You will be missed dearly.

Exactly. I'd feel people miss on the vulnerability celebs have. Their privacy is compromised, and every move they make is reflected under a spotlight. Every miswording they might make (they're human after all) is many times bound to get underserved backlash. Jonghyun said in an interview that he felt people judged him caressly. This man, who always showed support towards the vulnerable, and never did something deserving of widespread criticism, felt like that and was indeed judged like that.

I hope this reminds us to look upon ourselves before casting the first stone. Getting scandalized is very tempting.
