I was talking about jonghyun with my friend and she has acquaintances who struggle with depression. she said the worst thing you can do to someone with depression is send them to a doctor... is this true?

in most cases, the therapist helps but it really depends with the person tbh. most of the people that i know seek help when they can't handle it anymore or if they're already at the edge... also, the stigma about it pretty much discourages the person to seek help most of the time.

Its the best u can do to see a doctor, but its also true that its hard to see one. Not onlx that its hard to be motivated to stand up and go there, but its also hard to talk to someone whom u dont know.. Its hard to talk abt yourself and yr problems. Its hard to work on yourself.

in my case, i don't have the motivaiton to get better and going to a therapist is a waste of time and i just wanna go home

not if u have the right one.

In my experience yes. And all doctors give is anti depressant which isn't even helpful. It's kind of a waste of time

They helped me and I know a lot of people who feel better thanks to anti depressants.

Please don't say this... I personally would be dead without them by now. You either don't know what you are talking about or didn't find the right medicine.

It's not the worse thing, per say. In my case I just needed to be convinced of the value and that I didn't have to feel depressed. But the thing is people need to just be there for support, the depressed needs to be the one to take the first step and say to the doctor "I need help". The convincing might take a while.

People who feel depressed are discouraged. They are afraid of being a burden to the family financially, for example since treatment is expensive. Beyond the typical phrases that usually hear of how they have no reason to feel sad.

I think that in relation to the professionals, besides those who fill the patient with medication, some therapists don't have methods for which the patient identifies himself. I even went to the therapist once and was VERY irritated when he tried to put my father in the middle (I really have a good relationship with my parents.) and my biggest problem was the bullying that I received during adolescence and childhood. I was trying to say this, but this therapist takes the family as the main reason, anyway... I don't even have depression, but do you imagine the feeling of those who suffer from it?

There should be free medical follow-up taking into account that in a few years this will be a pandemic.

It depends on the person. Some people need cognitive behavioural therapy but medicine will always be offered first without much followup. Some people need medicine to reset their chemical imbalance but follow up is important because there is no magic pill. Good mental health doctors are expensive so sometimes for the everyday person it can be overwhelming. There needs to be a focus on counselling for some people because they really need to speak to someone. I don’t know Jonghyun personally but when you are at the point of wishing to commit self harm or suicide, you already needed medical attention yesterday so going to a doctor is not the worst thing you can do. The problem is that many cultures stigmatize mental health awareness or treatment even though stress is the underlying cause of a lot of other health issues.

It's better to see a doctor than not.

A good doctor will find a therapist or psychiatrist for you to talk to. They can also be an emergency contact and a source of help if you're on medications. When I was at my worst my family doctor insisted on monthly checkups just to make sure I was doing well.
