What do you think of Kpop fans that want to look like/be Korean?

I mean, adopting the Korean style of make-up, clothes and trying to fit in the Korean pattern of beauty (like having a V-shaped chin, a small nose etc).

To be honest, I do take a lot of inspiration from female idols when it comes to clothes and even use some makeup techniques that I think look cute. But I think there's a fine line between being inspired and wanting to be something you're not -- like buying products to make your skin look paler and trying to make your eyes look Asian.

What do you guys think?

Edit: but then again, I guess as long as they're okay with all of this, then it doesn't matter? Although I do think it's troublesome if you don't like your natural traits because they don't look Asian, I guess most people still will always want to fit in a type of pattern, be it the Asian or Western or others. Idk.

Is anybody doing that? Weird.

You'd be shocked. A lot of my friends who listen to them like to use the Korean type of make up to make their eyes look more Asian and even buy specific Korean products so they'll get the exact look their idols have.

Not gonna lie but in my early years of being a huge k-pop fan, I was one of them but it died out quite quickly smile.png

Interesting. But did it make you feel bad about yourself that you weren't Asian and/or didn't have Asian traits, or was it just something you did for fun?

I actually feel really sad for them because they probably don't like how they look or are insecure in their looks. I'm currently going through self esteem problems myself so I kind of know how that feels. But people shouldn't take kpop too seriously for it to go THAT far.

You should accept who You are and be proud of who You ARE.

Dont try to be someone else ! Embrace Yourself !

But i think its alright if people / fans love.....

... the Korean style of make-up, clothes and trying to fit in the Korean pattern of beauty (like having a V-shaped chin, a small nose etc)...

....on OTHERS and its the style of person they want to date / marry / have children with / spend their life with.

Its okay to love the type of people that are like Kpop Idols.

But You should be Yourself and love Yourself for what You are.

lol I AM asian....just not Korean. I tried to adopt their fashion and all that surprisingly my Korean friends said it didn't look bad at all even the perm was okay on me too.

I mean if it makes them happy or feel good about themselves I'm not gonna put them down for it. It's none of my business how they dress or put on their makeup anyway and judging them makes me no better. That phase dies out quickly for most people anyway, and usually they don't actually look Korean so what does it matter lol

Oh shoot, sorry about that.

they are transracial imstupid.png

no, seriously, they are koreaboos

taking inspiration is fine but some people go overboard with the bb cream and circle lenses and worst,

those that don't even put effort into learning the language and pretend they do souleyesplz.png

But what if they do put the effort to learn the language and know more about the culture outside of the Kpop sphere?

But what if's more than just the make up and clothes? Some go as far as wanting to have plastic surgery to make their features look more Korean.

But tbh, I agree. I don't really care and it's really none of my business, I'm just wondering. Like I said, most people want to fit in some type of pattern anyways, so should it really matter where the pattern comes from?

It's natural for people who are immersed in a certain culture to want to feel like they fit in. It's why we have people assimilating into western culture. There's nothing wrong with wanting to assimilate into a culture, but people should be mindful about who they are and where their roots are. You don't have to have epicanthic folds to feel welcome in a certain culture, other things aside from facial features should be more important, like learning the language and giving respect where it's due. I think with K-Pop, because it's already so shallow in terms of how people are praised for fitting a certain standard of beauty, people tend to overlook the rich culture Korea itself has, and just jump on the what's cool and trendy in Korea (mainly K-drama land and K-Pop), rather than embracing the multidimensional aspects of the country.

I think it's also why so many i-fans are ignorant and lump Knetz' opinions together as if they were all a single being.

We've got to distance ourselves from just the physical aspects of things to be comfortable with who we are, and how we can embrace other cultures.
