Why only a few groups get high Youtube views?

I was browsing Youtube and I noticed a few groups (BTS, Twice, Blackpink, EXO and for the previous generation Bigbang and SNSD) were getting over 100 millions views while other well known groups got a lot less views.

Before people invoke "fan streaming" while I believe fans are streaming MVs I don't think it can explain all of these views. Groups like Got7 have a lot of international fans (I believe Got7 has more international fans than, say, Twice) but their views are nowhere as high (saved for 1 MV for Got7 which cracked 100M views). If it was all through the power of fan streaming then groups with a big international fandom could easily get high views too.

So I wonder: what make these groups' MVs raking views?

It’s simple if people like the song they will stream it

Youtube views don’t measure in a groups success

The main factor in getting YouTube views seems to be a dedicated fandom. Maybe be a bit of general public and non fans but not much at all.

And in my conclusion... Maybe got7 doesn't have that kind of a fandom? Won't say they don't have fans but I guess they aren't the streaming kind.

because you nedd to be popular in korea and out of korea ?

and the groups you mentionned are the only one who are popular inside and outside their home country .

got7 and Ikon lack korean popularity

Winner lacks international fame so yeah

Huh????? This doesn't make sense

Recognition from non fans as well, got7 might have a lot of international fans but non fans dont care about them at all. Twice and BTS get so many views because even people who hate them will check them out just because of curiosity and maybe to hate on them.

 THIS^

And with BP's case, they have high yt view because the fans only get so little content so they have to make do with their current 5 mvs. Not that they wouldn't have a lot of view otherwise, I just think (IMO) that their fans are always looking for more content and YG has been giving them squat in the whole year+ after their debut.

They're just that good.

Jokes aside, it depends on the international fandom as well as the Korean one, as someone pointed out earlier. BP have super less content, so their views can be explained. Twice have a dedicated fandom which streams really hard, and I think a lot of Taiwanese and Japanese fans? EXO have super dedicated Korean fans, as well as a strong presence in SEA. BTS are the only outlier on this list - they have a million other free videos and still manage to rake in those views for their music videos. So yeah, not to reiterate myself - but they're just that good.

I think you need both a dedicated fandom but also casual k-pop fans who will watch your stuff. In BTS case, it helps a lot with the general public being curious and checking them out. (You can tell from the comments that there are a lot of puzzled muggles around.)

It's not only fandom streaming like crazy, and I think I can probably prove that with DNA. A couple of weeks ago, youtube glitched and you could no longer find DNA in the search results. It also disappeared from the "up next" and recommended videos side bar. The only way to watch DNA those two days was to find it on bighit's channel or if it was added to a playlist you were watching. Views dropped from around 1.3 million views daily to around 650k. So, half of BTS views are fandom driven, half are others who watch it for whatever reason. This is probably true for most k-pop acts, it's just that BTS has bigger volumes all over. More fans watching, more GP interest, more casual k-pop fan interest. Same goes for Blackpink and Twice. They're way ahead of other groups in terms of views.

tl;dr version: you need a big fandom but also causal k-pop fans and the general public to get the views of BTS, Blackpink and Twice.

they are more known to k-pop fandom, have more fans and have more casual listeners/GP i Think

+ idk id it works here, but some groups have a reputation of releasing great MV, some groups can be popular, but casual listeners would be not that interested in looking up MV (even if it is good).... idk...

Ya'll know that South Korea also watches Youtube right?

The majority of Twice's views, for example, are from SK

Same for BTS (although I think the US surpassed the SK in views)

People on here like to overestimate the relevance of Naver Videos in South Korea. It's very popular but its not like Youtube isn't a thing there, hence the 100s of Korean youtubers and what not

Based on the comment sections: •Blinks stream a lot to attempt to send YGE a message... Like... If they see how insanely we stream they will pay attention... It worked once.

•Then there are a lot of people who are casual listeners.

•And then there are other fandoms like ARMYS who come help beat there own records. And then there are other fandoms who ask for our help. And so on...

It's generally like that.

A fandom that works together (like when AIIYL dropped it was like Blinks from different timezones were rotating)

Casual fans

Antis

And other fandoms
