Advanced reproductive technologies allow parents and doctors to screen embryos for genetic disorders and select healthy embryos. The fear is that in the future we may be able to use genetic technologies to modify embryos and choose desirable or cosmetic characteristics. Which means we could pick the child's hair color, eye color, height etc in the future. If you could choose the child's IQ, athletic ability, artistic ability etc, would you have a "designer" baby? But Maybe I might be thankful they thought of my well-being and future, or taught me to be grateful for what I have and contribute to society? "who would I be without all these alterations?" "why would my parents do this?" the extra article would be a really good representation of how I would feel, I guess? Reading some of those other comments though seems like people think they alter the embryo, actually they just select one with the traits you like, so you're exactly as you would have been if the egg and sperm had come together coincidentally. Regardless of the traits that were picked for me, it still doesn’t change the fact that I'm me and my parents raised and loved me. I mean I can already think of the possibilities if I was already different, like what I was stronger, or less smarter or a different skin colour or a twin etc, being a designer baby and having those thoughts wouldn’t be any different for me.
