just finished piecing me together by renee watson..pretty good! i've been reading classics for so long that the modern social references in this book regarding current events kind of threw me for a loop.  overall i enjoyed it

starting ernest hemingway's the old man and the sea since it's short and i can read it at work or on the bus

after 6 weeks i was able to finish Killing Commendatore

verdict: 5/5

I'm a loyal Murakami fan laugh.png

my next book during Christmas break will be: China Rich Girlfriend

and has anyone here read The Vegetarian by Han Kang? tell me your thoughts because I read mixed reviews on the book

i have! i enjoyed it, although i didn't find much catharsis in the ending, even though i got the sense that the author was trying to tell me something lol..lots of beautiful language in the translation.

not quite sure what the narrative goal of han kang was with this but that's probably bc i read it for fun in the midst of spring finals and wasn't really doing a close analysis

i think i gave it a 4 out of 5 and i'll stand by that

kind of on a reading kick rn...i've hit the halfway mark on two separate books within 24 hours:

how we fight for our lives - saeed jones; a good LGBT and POC (specifically black) narrated memoir; very beautifully written

that was then, this is now - s.e. hinton; yoooo compared to the outsiders (a book which i adored in early high school), i am not enjoying this.  this book sounds like it heard the concept "show don't tell" and then hit it over the head with a bag of bricks.  way too "this is who this character is and here's our exact relationship boy howdy"...leaves no room for reader interpretation.

finished the second one, now onto:

human acts by han kang ...i read the vegetarian a year and a half ago i think?  pretty good.  i'm curious as to whether i'll enjoy this one more.
