Should capital punishment be abolished

Well, the easiest reason to remove it was how you cant go back and fix if there is a problem with the case because, well, you already killed the person you think as guilty, there is no return.

Yes but capital punishment is not just given to anyone

Like it takes years of hearings and trials in the court to come to this conclusion

Giving a wrong judgement regarding Capital punishment becomes highly unlikely

Yes it should be abolished (It is in my country)

I don't think it's right for a judge to have the power to decide if a person should be killed. The right to life is a fundamental right. Who are we to decide an other person is not worth living anymore?

Because the crimes committed by him were of a heinous nature and were so severe that no form of punishment can deter him from doing it again

Depends on the country. Also there is still a chance and we see people who got wrongly convicted and released from jail after 30 years so, even if its highly unlikely, its people's life. You can play around with percentages and assume majority will be ok.

Agreed

The system needs to be perfect in cases regarding Capital punishment

No innocent should suffer

Objectively I'm against it but honestly I could live in a society with capital punishment as long as I can trust justice.

Hmm...

or you can just lock him in prison for the rest of his life, this way he'll never hurt anyone again. My point still stands, it isn't right to decide a person should be killed. It's a State organised murder no matter how hateful the person is.

Same goes for torture. It is inhuman and a state shouldn't allow it.

But isn't a person serving a life imprisonment sentence as good as dead

He is serving life imprisonment because he must have done something horrible

Why waste money on such criminals

It's not like he is going to improve himself or we are giving him another chance if he never comes out

you see this on a practical level while I'm talking about morals, ethics and Human Rights. What gives us the right to decide a human being is not worth living anymore ?

Also how are you sure he's not going to change ? What makes you think being locked up is the same as being dead ? I bet some prisoners would disagree.

And I know some prisons make the prisoners work for the society (do the laundry, bake, repair things etc). Maybe we should think about ways to use them for the benefit of society. I watched a documentary and it actually worked : the prisoners had a "goal", it gave them a purpose, they were "happier" and it costed less to the society.
