Produced by Yasushi Akimoto (Aki-P), Last Idol is a 7 member Idol Group formed on the Survival Show of the same name. The First Season aired on Friday nights from August 12th - December 23rd on TV Asahi. From an Audition of 5000 Candidates, 7 girls were chosen to create the 1st Generation group that stared at the beginning of the show. The members were ranked from numbers 1 - 7, with the #1 Seat being the Center.

The tag line for the show was "Survival Until Debut!".

Each week, a Challenger would appear on the show and nominate 1 of the 7 Zantei or "Interim" members of the group. The 2 would then have a Performance Battle. A rotating panel of 4 Judges, well known Personalities in the Japanese Entertainment Industry, would vote for one of them secretly. 1 of the 4 would then be chosen randomly and reveal who they voted for. Whoever they chose would win the Battle even if the other 3 Judges chose the other girl. The loser would then be eliminated from the competition. If the Interim member was eliminated, the Challenger would then take their position and rank.

The goal of the Interim members was to Survive until the end of the Season. The winners would receive a Major Debut in addition to other Prizes. The title of the Debut Song was called "Bandwagon". At the end of most episodes, the Interim members would perform the song.

A Second Season was announced on December 23rd.

There's only two weeks left until debut and then they can finally start promotions. I'm not sure when we can expect their Variety Show to start. I don't know if there will be a break or it will start immediately after the Survival Show ends in the same time slot. I'm also not sure which magazine they'll be on the cover of and if it's a one time deal or ongoing. Hopefully the final episode will shed a little light on all these activities.

They released CCR's MV over the weekend, but I was too busy to notice (>.<) It's really cute, but different from what I expected. I thought it would have colorful shapes and giant candy or something. Too bad it's just the short version because there's a story to it.

Big news announced on the most recent episode of the Survival Show. Next year, Last Idol will make their Feature Film debut in the Live Action adaptation of the popular Manga, "School-Live" (ãŒã£ã“ã†ãらã—ï¼). The story takes place after a Zombie outbreak and focuses on a group of teenage girls trying to survive in their High School (Continuing with the Survival theme, I see laugh.png). I have no idea what roles the members will play. They could just be supporting characters. There's a group of students from another School that might be antagonists in the series, so it's possible they'll play these roles.

Here's a Trailer:

I'm impressed how much these girls are getting pushed. Aki-P's organization really seems to want them to succeed. I'm sure TV Asahi has a big interest in their success as well.

This is kind of a funny update. These 3 guys did a cover of Bandwagon. They have a YouTube Channel and one of their regular videos is a recap of Last Idol every week. With my limited Japanese, I can't understand that much so I don't keep up with them. The performance starts out okay, but falls apart about halfway through. Watch at your own risk laugh.png

The interesting part about this is that it means Bandwagon is already available for Karaoke. Impressive.

Here is a special treat. Its a short video of what might be Last Idol and CCR's first Television appearance outside of the Survival Show.

Midori says the most while being interviewed about the food. Aya and Airi pretty much just go OISHIIII!!! laugh.png Ayway, it was cute seeing them out and about (^ . ^)

I saw a tweet from CCR's account last month that showed them performing at a live event. I had no idea where they were at. It must have been this event.

The first comment is a fan video of their introductions.

Someday Somewhere released their MV over the weekend:

This looks like it has the highest budget of all the videos so far. I love how the whole story is about Wakana's injury and having to stand up again. I hope this doesn't mean she's going to have to sit in a chair for every song moving forward, lol. I didn't notice if Misaki had any lines. Maybe she's in the full version.

Wakana really does come across strongly in the video. She has allot of presence, an "Aura" as the Japanese Fans have said. Not having Waka in Last Idol could end up being a wise decision as it means they end up with another popular group. Incorporating her real life injury into the concept of the video is a good way to get people interested as well.

I was planning to make some updates last night, but other things came up. Before I go to sleep, here's a full group pic of Last Idol Family at their release event today.

There's a ton of pics that I'll upload when I get a chance.

Edit: Notice the cut out of Midori in her CCR costume, lol.

There's a ton of updates now that they've debuted. I'll be spending the next few days posting everything.

As far as the new MVs, I was disappointed with Love Cocchi. I don't think their concept fits with the rest of the groups. The song felt like a throwback to the 60's, but it didn't really come together. It's a shame because Airi and Rei are really talented. I hope they'll get better songs in the future. One funny thing about the video. You can clearly see the underage members drinking orange juice for the toast, while the rest are drinking champagne. Maybe they slipped a little something into the OJ, lol.

I really like the video for Bandwagon. It looked great and is definitely fitting of the main group. So many lights! Putting the members in more casual clothes to contrast with the stage costumes was a nice touch. Overall, a really nice MV that showcases the group effectively in their debut. I noticed this a little bit during the live performances on the Survival Show, but you can clearly see how formation works. #1 ~ 3 are the 1st row, and #4 ~ 7 are 2nd row. They even split them up into two groups for some parts of the choreography. I wonder if they'll change the formation in the future. During the live performances, Natsumi doesn't harmonize that well with Aya, so I wouldn't mind if they mixed things up.

One quick update. Aya was a guest on a Radio Show last Thur. to promote Last Idol's debut. The show is called "Myu Komi Plus". There's a brief excerpt from the interview, but it's pretty straight forward. Just introductions mainly.

Here are some samples of the Photocards included with the Single for Bandwagon:

I thought there were only going to be 31 Photocards. It's actually going to be 78!!! fD4JAZe.png 3 cards for each member. That's insane. I hope there's more than 1 card per single.

Edit:

Pics are already popping up online:

I've been wondering who the shortest member of Last Idol is. I had assumed it was Midori during most of the Survival Show, but then I noticed that Aya was about the same height. Well, their official profiles confirm it. At 150 cm, Aya is the shortest member! She's 1 cm shorter than Midori, lol. Although, on any given day they might be the same height with compression and all that 0u0plz.png

In case there was any doubt as to whether it was best to be in the main group or not, they're making it quite clear who the stars are. Last Idol is on the cover of all 4 Types:

I guess I thought the 2nd Units would be featured in some way. Maybe on the back. I'll look for high res versions of all of them.

There's so many things to keep up with now that they debuted. This is a live stream from the 20th. A couple months ago, the announced that a select number of fans would be able to attend some kind of special photo shoot/event. I wonder if this is it?

The opening segment is hilarious. Aya is doing the introductions and Midori comes out to interrupt and is very disruptive. She eats a cream puff behind Aya's back, answers her phone, and takes pictures laugh.png Aya gives in to Midori's bad influence so Yako comes out to stop the nonsense. I like that they each have a character.

At 7:30 there's a live performance of Bandwagon followed by the 2nd coupling track "Rasu Ai" at 12:25 (basically their theme song). It's more of a straight forward Pop/Rock song and features all members of Last Idol Family. I wish they'd made an MV for this too.

The MC talks so fast 0u0plz.png Last Idol comes out and introduces themselves. Each member shows the audience their special talent. These are a little different than what was in their profiles:

- Abe: Does a Super Sentai speech and pose.

- Aya: Makes a goat noise.

- Natsumi: Does Pantomime.

- Airi: Recites a tongue twister?

- Midori: Does an imitation of Airi.

- Haruka: Does the side stepping reflex training while talking. I forget what this is called.

- Yako: Does the same tongue twister that Airi did.

Good Tears is up next at 29:30.

I'll have to finish watching this tomorrow.

Here's a real treat. Aya, Airi, and Yako were guests on Nogizaka46's "Nama no Idol Ga Suki". It's a show on NicoNico hosted by members Nakada Kana and Matsumura Sayuri (aka Sayuringo). It's just to interview random Idols. The real fun begins at the 38' mark:

I've been told that this segment is called "Sayuringo Osawari Uranai "- Sayuringo's Touch Fortune Telling. Basically, Sayuringo tells the fortune's of the guests by touching various parts of their body, but it's really just an excuse for her to molest them, lol. She also puts Yako's hair in pigtails!

*Thanks to the folks in the Nogi46/Keya46 thread for the info (^ . ^)

Last Idol Family have been doing allot of Show Room Lives since the debut. I believe this is from Aimi's account, but Haruka sits in with her. Several members of Last Idol makes brief appearances throughout. The reason I'm posting this is for the maximum face smooshing action around the 24' mark:

I expected something like this, but I'm a bit peeved Last Idol has to compete as well. So much for Surviving 0u0plz.png Also, couldn't they at least wait until the new year to announce this? It's been less than a week since they debuted.

I'm going to attempt to translate the Interview that came out on Natalie. I'm sure I made mistakes (still working on some things), but most of the questions and answers seem pretty straight forward.

Part 1

photo07.jpg

"At the age of 3, I thought I wanted to become an Idol" (Abe)

Interviewer: Please introduce yourself (to all the members), tell me how you felt about auditioning for the program (Last Idol), and about an Idol you admire.

Abe: I first wanted to be an Idol when I was 3 yrs. old because of Morning Musume. I saw live footage and thought "I want to do this!". I particularly liked Tanaka Reina. Soon after that, I got an audition and joined the group mlmi. Eventually, mlmi was renamed to Pax Puella.

Interviewer: You are also concurrent with Pax Puella.

Abe: Yes, but everything is different between Pax Puella and Last Idol. The number of the staff and the size of the event we appear at. Even the bento boxes and the way we move is different (laughs). (*Not sure what she means by "move") But I don't want to quit Pax Puella. Some members have been together for 6 yrs. I feel that I can be in both groups at the same time.

(*Abe talks about "selling", but I'm not sure if she means Pax Puella isn't selling? I'll have to work on it some more.)

Interviewer: I see. So the Idol you admire is named Tanaka Reina?

Abe: Yes, Tanaka was also in Morning Musume. There is member currently in Morning Musume '17 named Ishida Ayumi. When I was in Sendai, we took lesson together. From that time, I really respected her dancing ability.

Aya: In my case, it was Solo Artists like Koizumi Kyoko and Matsuda Seiko. I watched them on a video site and began to admire them very much. I felt something like strength in cuteness. I was active in singing and dancing so I felt I could do this myself.

(*The last sentence is a bit confusing because it seems to skip over a section.)

Natsumi: I was doing Musicals and I liked singing and dancing. Since anyone could audition on Last Idol, I applied with the courage. I don't know if can say they're an Idol, but I respect Kanda Sayaka.

(*The last part is a bit confusing so I'll work on it some more.)

Interviewer: If Aya is the Mother, Natsumi is part of the Daughter group?

Aya: Definitely. I've suffered a bit (laughs).

photo06.jpg

"I want to rise above the ground" (Midori)

Airi: The reason I applied was because I love Kara. I especially like Nichole and (*I'm not sure who the other member is). Nichole is a hard worker. When I went to a concert, (*Airi says something about Nichole's foot and realizing how hard it is to be an Idol).

Interviewer: Nichole was struggling to learn Japanese as well.

Airi: That's right! And now her Japanese is the best among the members. Her work ethic is really cool. I want to learn from her example.

Midori: I went to the Audition because I was thin. I lost weight because there was an incident. (*This is a bit difficult to translate, but I've seen photos of Midori when she was a bit heavier so she's referring to that. Something to do with an incident that happened at one her group's live events and feeling inferior to Nogizaka46. I think one of the fans was a big fan of Nogi and didn't think Midori could compare to them. She says she weighed 13kg then).

Interviewer: (*This should be simple, but I'm not quite getting it.)

Midori: I was ashamed. To someone who is familiar with cute Idols, they must have thought "this girl is also an Idol?". At the time, I was a typical underground Idol. I felt like I didn't want to stay in the underground forever. I said that I could not have pride (*Not sure about this) and wanted to rise above the ground.

Interviewer: Who is your favorite Idol?

Midori: Nogizaka46's Fukagawa Mai. I am attracted to that gentle atmosphere.

DvzHSaC.jpg

"I ran away" (Yako)

Haruka: I originally liked Idols and I often went to Handshake Meetings and lives. I also collected goods. Then I started to feel like I wanted to shine on my own, but I didn't have the courage to go on an Audition. Last Idol is the first Audition I went on.

Interviewer: Whose lines did you go to at the Handshake Meetings?

Haruka: Former AKB48 Oshima Yuko. Isn't Oshima always the best at all times? (*Haruka says somethign about seeing the limits of performance. Maybe that Oshima showed her there's no limits to performance?).

Yako: I was born in Fukuoka Prefecture and did a little modeling in High School. But the modeling world is too strict. I can't go to an Audition unless I'm 165 cm. I'm 159 cm so that was my limit (*She might have said, "my legs weren't long enough to reach). There was talk about giving up being a Model and going to a Tokyo Office to become an Actress, but in the end I gave up. I wanted some stability so I joined a Dental Hygienist's School locally.

Interviewer: Your legs were long enough to reach after all (*not sure about this)

Yako: No, I ran away. But, I couldn't give up on my dream of working in Entertainment. Since I wanted to be a model in the beginning, I wasn't committed to being an Idol. However, after becoming an Interim Member after winning against Ruka (now in Good Tears), I have to take over her feelings. Besides, when we are holding a Handshake Meeting as an Interim Member (*she says something about a "regular person") I began to learn how fun it can be to work as an Idol.

*That's it for Part 1. I'm going to work on Part 2 in a day or so.
