Belkiss 22,803 Posted December 5, 2017 Share Posted December 5, 2017 It's been 4 years since I studied syntax I used to love it so much I forgot everything about it but normally that is called a that clause so a similar tree in google will help you do that senetence right? try this I will try to brainstron you have 2 senetnces, the whole sentence and the "that clause" so He told me that his cat died yesterday is the first sentence his cat died yesterday is the second sentence so bear in mind that you have 2 vp and 2 np so the first step is to put functions of the whole words He is the PRN, told is V, me is N, that is C, the is PRN, cat is N, died is V, yesterday is C the NP is They the VP is "told me that his cat died yesterday" now the VP is divided into V, NP, and CP V is told NP is me the cp is divided into C and the S (sentence 2) C is that S, sentence 2 is divided into np and vp np is the cat vp is died yesterday this is what I remember I will try to go back to my papers I miss this subject so much Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

paerarru 383 Posted December 5, 2017 Share Posted December 5, 2017 It can be done two different ways because either he told you yesterday that his cat died (perhaps yesterday as well, but not necessarily) or his cat died yesterday, and he told you presumably today.
