jinsouljin 36 Posted December 3, 2017 Share Posted December 3, 2017 a lot of my followers on twitter know i’m from thailand and i make it pretty clear and randomly a few days ago a girl messaged me. she didn’t have herself as her icon so i didn’t know what she looked like but she was asking ‘oh, you’re from thailand? that’s awesome’ being normal and then started asking me if i had a boyfriend all of that. i mean i didn’t lie so i said yes and she started going on and on how it’s her goal to marry an asian and she won’t marry unless they’re asian :o she then ASKED ME to find her a boyfriend here!!!!!! like really!! i was in shock someone could even said that. so she sent me a picture of herself (she was black) and told me to show this to any thai guy i know that was single! i seriously couldn’t believe it. i feel uncomfortable with people fetishizing asians bc they like kpop :-| Sent from my iPhone using OneHallyu mobile app Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Physical preferences aren't bad, ofc, but the fact of the matter is the fetishization of Asian people is usually based on stereotypes, especially when they are female, but not solely. It's cool that Asian men aren't being desexualized constantly anymore, but it kinda sucks that, instead of there being a middle ground of "hey, there are attractive Asian men" it's focused in on the assumption that Asians are exactly like how the Western world sees them, which is typically as idols. The fetishization of Asian women is based on the idea that they are essentially subservient, submissive and school girl cute (which is an entirely different thing that I could write essays about and actually have). I'm less knowledgable about the fetishization of Asian men unfortunately so I don't know very many specifics past people saying that they should be kpop stars or wanting to date them bc "you look like a kpop star" Idols themselves are pretty fake as a concept (not the actual people, but they are a product -- they individually have a concept and essentially a brand that they portray) so it kinda sucks that people are having to deal with people telling them to be kpop stars as if that's the end all be all for Asian people. I've always found that East Asians are by far the most liked minority group for gay men, but according to the media you'd think that East Asians don't exist and that Blacks were the most liked, eventhough Blacks are almost non-existent in real life gay culture. Given that attractive to a person solely based on race is generally tied to preconceived ideas about said race, how they should look, or how they should act, I don't think I am. Comparing race to height is a fallacy because they aren't on the same level when it comes to genetics. Any person of any race can be tall. There are not many, if any, preconceived notions about tall people. Sexual attraction to them usually boils down to eveolutionary theory. Sexual attraction to races usually boils down to liking an idea about said race, such as the example I gave in Asian women as them being subservient or more submissive than black or hispanic women or (to a lesser extent) white women who are generally thought of as louder, more independent, or more overtly sexual (i.e. sexually aggressive and in more control). Preferring submissive women/people sexually is not wrong, but saying that you would only date an Asian person because they are submissive is wrong. The connection I was making and calling you out on was that most people who say they will only date one race do so because of preconceived notions they have about that race. It's not solely a physical attraction, it's also a "these are the ideas I have about this race due to the media I have consumed about this race." The same thing happens in the gay community to an extent, it's why you see the idea that bisexuals can't be loyal, that all lesbians have a femme/butch relationship, etc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
