Interviewers might've been disappointed nothing juicy came out of those questions.  It's not a terrible question to ask, it's an interesting thing to consider how openly celebrities' private lives are showcased or discussed in different cultures.

I get that it does give ammunition, but the kind of people that would actually take these kinda statements seriously would go batshit regardless. For example, just saying "No, I don't have a girlfriend" alone still has the potential to feed delusions like "I still have a chance!" or feelings of betrayal later on like "You have a girlfriend?! That means you lied to us!" However, regardless of what the members say, rational fans can tell fantasy from reality.
