WINNER Says YG Entertainment Forbids Them From Driving

During the November 21 broadcast of tvN’s variety show “Youth Over Flowers,†WINNER showed over-enthusiasm after renting a car. When asked why during an interview, they revealed a surprising fact: they’re not allowed to drive.

Despite having licenses, the members are not allowed to drive or buy a car. Kim Jin Woo said, “[YG Entertainment] prohibits cars.†Song Mino added, “We have to get permission [before we buy a car]. Because if you have a car, it means you’re going to drive. It’s hard to actually get permission.â€

Throughout their trip in Australia, they pointed out cars and expressed their desire to drive one. Kim Jin Woo revealed, “[Driving] is one of the things the four of us always wanted to do together.â€

Their wish came true when they were able to rent a car in Australia and drive around the country while listening to music. Lee Seung Hoon expressed his joy, saying, “During the interview, we said we wanted to rent a car and go somewhere. I can’t believe we rented [a car] in Australia.â€

“Youth Over Flowers†airs every Tuesday at 10:50 p.m. KST.

If I was in charge of SM Shinee would hate me cause they would live and travel in plastic bubbles.😭 He's just trying to protect them.

After all that happened, between the DUI, the accidents, the speed racers... (not naming names but we know who are those), I understand, even BIGBANG in their last reality show, none of them were actually driving.

If I had to guess, I would guess that this no-driving policy is definitely due to the various car-related accidents and incidents that some of the Big Bang members have had in the past.  One of them flipped his Porsche on a bridge while speeding...and it was all caught on camera.  One of them apparently ran over someone lying in the street.  And IIRC, there have been some other similar incidents in the past.  "Big Bang" is a great name generally, but it's not a lucky name in the context of cars and driving.

Edit:  Hilarious that someone downvoted this.  I guess it's the idol-worship mentality that gets triggered.  You can't argue against something that everybody knows, but you hate it anyway because it makes the idols seem more like humans than gods....so you just have to hit that downvote button to punish the blasphemy.  Too funny when people actually think of their idols as really being idols.

There are various reasons, safety being one.

I'd say it's to avoid scandals tho, since most idols date in cars.

In fact, one way to know if an idol is dating is when he/she gets a driving license and drives heavily tinted cars

Winner doesn't have a dating ban so it's not about that. Probably to prevent most known car related scandals from happening (DUI for ex)
