A fishing simulation featuring a band of adventuring friends in “Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XVâ€, a repackaged special edition of “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildâ€, and an ambitious quest in “Xenoblade Chronicles 2†are all on the radar.

Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV
For PlayStation VR on the PlayStation 4
From Nov. 21
Spun off from “Final Fantasy XVâ€, a stunningly ambitious role-playing game released November 2016, this virtual reality expands on one of the main game characters’ love of fishing. Players build up their skill by visiting various ponds, readying themselves to eventually subdue a much more aggressive underwater beast.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Explorer’s Edition
For Nintendo Switch
From Nov. 23
Received as one of the best Zelda games ever made and, therefore, among of the best video games of all time, “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild†was hailed as a comprehensively refreshing open-world adventure and ahead of the Switch’s first holiday season is here packaged with a guide book and double-sided map. Season Pass available separately.

Nintendo Switch reissue round-up
A rush of re-releases bolstering the Nintendo Switch’s line-up of independently created games include isometric puzzle adventure “Lumo†(Nov. 20), racing sim “Gear Club Unlimited†and musical journey “Superbeat: XONiC†(both Nov. 21), sandbox adventure “Portal Knightsâ€, birds-eye racer “Mantis Burn Racing†and comedy platformer “Stick It to The Man†(all for Nov. 23).

Xenoblade Chronicles 2
For Nintendo Switch
From Dec. 1
Its predecessor was a resounding success on the Nintendo Wii, arguably the system’s best title but arriving towards the end of the console’s life. This sequel aims to be just as expansive and impressive with an enormous world to explore, a sumptuous soundtrack, and an epic quest to complete.

Doom VFR
For PS VR (PS4) and HTC Vive (Windows PC)
From Dec. 1
Last year’s successful shooter reworked as a virtual reality excursion, in which players take the role of a survivor’s consciousness reincarnated as an AI-controlled defense network inside a monster-infested colony on Mars. JB
