why is it so common on this forum for people to mock Asians attempting to speak English?

and yes, I am referring to those who discourage idols from attempting to speak English. how are people supposed to learn a language if they're told to not attempt it because "they have an accent" or "they talk weird". like .. how is this type of discourse so common on OH? a forum dedicated to Asian music. I'm going to assume that the vast majority of you are Asian yourself so you must've experienced first or second hand the struggles of picking up English in a racist environment. so rather than encouraging, you are contributing to the problem. Which begs the question, are you really down with openly mocking your own people just to gain some green rep from the racists on this forum?

It’s disgusting. I’m a native speaker so seeing this happen so frequently is sad. If anything, I’m honored people genuinely are trying to learn, regardless of their accent. When I see people mock them, on an Asian forum... It’s just confusingly dumb.

 

Also the BT thread is where cowards roam. Let them come to the real forum and then see how many upvotes they get.

it's not a surprise ifans can be very racist against asians despite consuming asian entertainment culture. just look at how aggressive the comments get when koreans don't find a westerner/non asian more attractive than their own? (that one article about the pakistani guy in DOTS remake). ifans only care about asian approval when it comes to their precious idols. every other person/idea can choke.

Learning another language is hard and even more if you don't live where it's spoken. And seeing how idols have full schedules, it will take even longer. At least they are trying to learn English or in some cases Japanese etc. to communicate with fans.

I immigrated to the States when I was 12 and was often mocked for my "funny accent" growing up. My grammar is still a bit iffy at times. I just thought that a forum dedicated to Asian music would be a place I wouldn't have to see this type of comment.

It's not his habit, it's just how he speaks. Do you really think someone who learned English by watching "Friends" will have a native's accent?
