The J-Pop Artist of the Week threads are back and suggestions are open! Please PM me if you have an artist you'd like to see featured next week or in the future!

April is all filled up with requests, so if you have an artist you want, their thread will be sometime in May.

This Week's Artist:
Chihiro Onitsuka

Chihiro Onitsuka is a singer-songwriter under For Life Music Entertainment. She has been influenced by Western artists since her youth, and US songwriter Jewel inspired her to become a singer. Chihiro wrote her first song titled "Call" at the age of 17. After reading an ad for a music audition in De-View magazine, she performed "Call" at the audition and won the grand prize. This lead to her being signed by MELODY STAR RECORDS. After graduating high school, she went to Tokyo to prepare for debut.

She released her debut single "Shine" in 2000, and gained recognition from the follow up hit "Gekkou", which was the theme song for the drama TRICK. When she released her debut album Insomnia the following year, it topped the Oricon chart and sold more than a million copies.

Chihiro dropped her label in 2004 and switched to Universal Music. After releasing only one single, she went on an extended hiatus until 2007. Once her contract ended in 2011, she switched  to her current label FOR LIFE MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.

Chihiro Onitsuka is well-known for her string of high-profile drama tie-up ballad singles.

OniChii is such a talented singer-songwriter. Her best album above covers most of her hit songs, but sadly excludes stuff from what I think is her best album, SUGAR HIGH. Not your god, Koe, Suna no Tate, Borderline, Tiger in my love, Castle Imitation, King of Solitude are amazing songs from the album.

Thanks for creating this thread :ahmagah:  Happy to see her get some promotion on this forum! I love the melancholic quality in her music and even though her voice has unfortunately deteriorated somewhat, it still moves me.

^ Totally agreed about Tiger in my Love and Not your God.

I might have missed it, but was Rasen included up there?

Love her!

Infection is still one my favorite songs to date, I get chills whenever I listen to it

It's kind of sad her voice deteriorated, but it's really one of the unique voices I've heard.

Not from that list, I also like Hyouruu no Hane
