whats the difference between a big and a strong fanbase?

Directioners were a really strong fanbase as well though- like super strong (ex-directioner here)

I think it comes down to how determined said fanbase is, like Japanese Directioners were a very strong fanbase as well and succeeded in getting 1D over there because of how determined they were.

For me, I consider a fanbase to be strong when majority of their fans stick around for a long time, basically loyal fans. There will always be fans who come and bandwagon once a group hits big and then leave once a scandal happens or a new group comes.

So honestly right now for me,

Strong FB: Big Bang, SNSD, IU, Highlight/Former Beast

Big FB: BTS

Just my personal opinion

IMO, Big fanbase means they widely knwon and have a lot of casual fans, not necessarily translating into sales and stuff (BigBang and current SNSD).(like old ppl/ young kids be like "im a fan of so and so" but theyre deffo not contributing to the fandom culture and sales)

Strong (and big to an extent) is EXO, BTS, Got7, Wanna One... like i wouldnt say Wanna one has a bigger fandom than bigbang, but they sure are hella strong with their buying/streaming/voting power.

Idk about who has what kind of fanbase but in my head a strong fanbase is a fanbase that will be really dedicated to vote for their faves and streaming MVs and such where a big fanbase would just recognize the group is good but not do much about it (other than have a lot of people agreeing)

You tried but no, as a once one direction fan I can say directioners in their prime? Unrivalled. And even a relatively moderate is size chunk of them - Larries made No Control trend, got it on radio stations and even the boys to acknowledge the situation, Louis in particular. And it was started solely by Larries, with the rest of the fans joining in later. And No Control was basically an ignored B side. Don’t compare what they’re now with what they were in 2012-2015
