Why are girls attracted to ugly guys but guys not attracted to ugly girls?

Women are attracted to status and power because for ancient female humans this meant safety for her and her young. Men are attracted to beauty because "beauty" broken down is about signaling fertility. For example long hair, wide hips and a narrow waist. These instincts have worked its way to our modern brains and influence what we think.

 

And YES, of course some women are attracted to good looking men and some men like powerful women but generally its more true that women want status and men want beauty. Will a female executive at Google date a guy working at McDonalds because he looks like Leonardo DiCaprio? 999/1000 times no. 

 

In the case of idols fame = status and social proof so female fans would go crazy even for less than good looking idols. For male fans it doesn't matter if a girl is a worker at McDonalds or the President its her look that are most important. (again generalization). So that's why you hear so many stories in Korea like "This girl who works in a coffee shop is getting attention online for her incredible visuals!".

idk but I've notice that in girl groups, the visual/the members considered the prettiest member is always the most popular, even when their fanbase is majority female while that's not really the case with guy groups

 

There are also a lot of movies where they ugly dopey nerd gets that hot girl at the end but when it's the other way around, the girl aways has to undergo some makeover that makes her hot, before she gets the guys of her dreams
