^ Phew indeed.. kkekekeke..that'll put all of our mind at ease

and man..I am anticipating Jang Giyong's and IU's chemistry for that drama.

Same lmao I was so relieved.

I'm looking forward to JKY x IU too.. at least we know they'll have chemistry (if there is a love line) based on her MVs^^

Me too za5g21G.png interesting that Jang Kiyong was kinda in the spotlight with the other 3 at the script reading. I thought his role was small but if his involvement is bigger then I'm happy. Hoping for a love line with IU za5g21G.png

Same! "IU's man" deserves nothing less.

Optimistic about it because Lee Sungyun and Lee Jiah were standing next to each other and are a couple in the drama so.. hurrplz.png

I'm still confused why his role is the only one with no description though :(

Hello TvN tweeting about how Kiyong starred in 2 of IU's MVs means they are aware of his "IU's man" nickname they better not let us down and give us that love line

Ok I livestreamed and imo IU did well! She REALLY suits this type of dark character.

Can't comment much on her enunciation since she didn't talk much this episode, but in the moments that she did (like at the bar with Lee Sungyun's character) she wasn't "eating her words." I think most of what some were worried about was during the times she was narrating (?).

Nothing much happened in the first episode other than what was already shown in the teasers but omg I am so happy that she took on this project. It's so refreshing to watch her in a mature drama rather than the hallyu ones she's been taking on, and the directing/cinemotography/OST is wonderful. All the actors did great as well. I agree that Jang Kiyong is a scene stealer + I also really liked the eldest brother. Definitely the comedic relief of the drama. Looking forward to tomorrow!

You can totally see that JKY's acting has definitely improved. All that hard work of researching and watching noir films/characters is paying off. laugh.png  Also, as expected, tvN dramas delivers with the OSTs! I'm for sure going to download the album once the drama ends.

------------------------------

I also just wanted to add that Kibeom is such a lazy ass friend lmao Jian, the men in your life are useless!! lol but I was extremely happy when Seungkyoon (Kibeom) appeared because I honestly didn't expect him to appear this early in the drama. laugh.png I'm proud of this boy for steadily landing roles. He also gets to work with IUsus and call her noona rlytearpls.png

lmao his scenes were so fun I laughed when he got all startled by seeing Jian's grandma bundled up in the cart

Can't wait to see him using his hacking skills later on in the drama

But I thought he was an early 94er (January) so she gained another same-aged friend rlytearpls.png

Btw what would be a decent ratings premiere? Like I'm not expecting this to be a mega hit, but what would at least be average/not a flop for a cable drama in this time slot? Maybe 4-5% considering the caliber of the director?

Same thoughts after re-watching w/ subs. It started out slow, but I think it was expected in order to introduce the characters. I had the same feelings with Misaeng, but it just got better and better with each episode. Really looking forward to the comradery/friendship that will eventually develop between the brothers and Jian and how they get each other through their respective difficulties. I really don't think there will be romance in this drama at all and if there is, it'll probably only be a hint between Jian/Gwangil near the end (hopefully not!).

Excited for the V-live tonight as the cast will surely give out more info on the drama and hopefully shut up the twitter antis who are making this out to be a "lolita" romance. If only they could have held a press con before the drama aired so we could hear the thoughts of the writer and director as well.

Yeah, there was a change also when they initially submitted...

The initial error was also with a double line relationship that needed to remove the red line (love/affection) and be only blue line (enemies/antagonists), like Nara's character and the youngest brother now.

And they also removed the red line between Ji An and Dong Hoon, and between the CEO and Dong Hoon's wife.

No more red lines in this drama! laugh.png

Yaass I'm all for this! laugh.png

But lmao at them editing the chart AGAIN

TY to these kfans!

That this even had to be clarified is too funny. Like watch the drama first or at least do proper research before starting a witch hunt.. the antis are desperate! Still laughing at how apparently dating violence is being glorified between two enemies (lol) + lolita this lolita that when they don't even know the definition of the word. I even saw tweets comparing this to Eungyo the movie like what? laugh.png

Really enjoyed this episode so much more than the first!

Spoilers

Omg the beginning.. Jian is so badass LOVE IT! Not to mention smart with her plan in the beginning + finding out about the affair between Dong Hoon's wife and the CEO (her exchange with him near the end was savage lol). This type of female lead character is so refreshing. I also appreciated that it wasn't as dark this episode with more comedic relief from the 2 brothers.. laughed so hard when people were staring at them at the subway entrance while waiting for Jian lmao. The ending was really beautifully done as well with Dong Hoon thanking her as they were sitting in the subway. So looking forward to their blossoming friendship. In Misaeng, I absolutely loved the relationship between Siwan and Sungmin's characters and am optimistic that the director can bring out something similar with this pairing.

Second time saying this but I'm just so happy that IU took on this role. She's doing great so far and I feel like this drama will be a really meaningful production.

Yes I love these two songs

Can't wait for the official release

Same! Wasn't really a fan of the first one that was released lol.

I'm loving reading all of the positive reviews from strictly k-drama fans.

This is one of my favorites:

"Brilliant two opening episodes that drew me irrevocably in from the get go, finally bringing me back to Kdramaland after a long hiatus.

The bleak aesthetics framed by slightly off-kilter cinematography, pervading sense of desolation and desperation, interjected by the odd burst of hijinks - all build up a relentless introduction to the unforgiving universe it is set in. PD Kim Won Suk is in his element, and I know we are in excellent hands as far as direction goes.

The characters are beautifully brought to life by strong performances across the board. IU in particular, truly shines with her nuanced delivery, conveying so much with the minutest of reactions, a flicker of an eyelid, or just the gaze of dead, dead eyes of one who no longer allows herself to feel. Driven by pragmatism and tunnel vision born of her dire circumstances, to break free of the hell that she is living in, to find new life for her and her grandmother, she is currently ruthless and callous, bent on achieving her goal with no regard yet for the collateral damage she may leave in her wake. Her LJA has me aching for her inasmuch as I fear the lengths to which her desperation would take her. LSK is equally convincing as the hapless, bewildered PDH, trapped in drudgery out of responsibility towards his family - his vulnerability and helplessness keeping me in dread and having me root for him so badly, knowing that he will be beaten down even more down the road when his wife's infidelity and LJA's manipulations come to light. While in a better financial situation than LJA, he is perhaps even more an underdog, with far less-honed survival skills than her.

The dynamics of the Park siblings leaves me with mixed emotions. Their affection is clear for all to see, yet the current parasitic nature of their relationship frustrates me as they lay, albeit unintentionally, undue pressure on PDH to be the cornerstone of the family, without bothering to understand what difficulties he may be facing. It is clear that PDH himself takes on all expectations laid upon him without a dissenting word, but I have to wonder how long before even his stoic facade finally cracks.

LJA's relationship with her grandmother is one that moves me to tears. Her gruffness belie her love, and her very actions - springing out her grandmother, caring for her when she herself could barely survive - scream that love which she no longer has the capacity to express verbally. Where her grandmother is physically mute, LJA herself is now emotionally mute, fortifying herself with a hardened hide, so that she need not hurt more by feeling. Yet, the sad, compassionate eyes of her grandmother sees it all and aches for her grandchild, just as I hurt for this family who has no one else to rely on apart from a young gamer.

The office politics are a fascinating part of this story. I am particularly glad to see Shin Goo (aka Thank You's Mr. Lee!) as the Chairman, as well as Jung Hae Kyun from the Signal alumni here as the targeted Director PDW. The previews indicate that Director Park will be trapped by LJA, but I hope this will be a temporary setback in what is currently a thrilling standoff in the company. Either way, can't wait to see how this unfolds.

As for the arc which has been the source of so much mind-boggling controversy, I do not believe we have seen the last of our resident loan shark LGI. LJA is not out of the woods yet as far as he is concerned, and it is merely a matter of time before he finally tracks her down again, be it at her workplace or otherwise. It remains to be seen why he is particularly vindictive towards her and I wonder how she could ever extricate herself from his clutches. We shall see.

So far, this drama has hit every note and then some - be it direction, performances or script, and I am absolutely absolutely on board. May this winning streak continue without losing steam, giving us one of the most outstanding dramas of 2018, if not the most. Please let it be so."

And of course NB will translate it lol

It's fine they can keep on trending the drama so eventually more people will check out what all the fuss is about and realize that Jian is the k-drama heroine we all needed ahmagahplz.png

Ep 4 wrecked me warstarplz.png

I'm really starting to like Dong Hoon now as we see a glimpse of how he's beginning to be less passive towards Jian. Also, when he said that it was sad that Jian understands and knows the "real" him.. so relatable. I love Lee Sun Gyun. He's such a seasoned and incredible actor.

And oh god don't get me started on Jian's backstory. I cried during Jian's moment with her grandma after being beaten up. IU is just killing it. I got shivers during that one scene when she was cursing and the anger in her eyes...

I know that there will be no romance between these two, but their chemistry is so hot? lol I love the emotional attraction and tension between their characters.

Ahh can't wait for next week!!

WHEN WILL THEY PRESS CONFERENCE UGH WHAT IS THE POINT NOW

Same :(

I feel like if they were going to go ahead with it, they would have done it this week. Such a shame really. Other than getting to see the cast dolled up and all smiles, I was really looking forward to hearing the director's and writer's thoughts.

If only they had held a press con, I think a lot of the skepticism in the beginning over the title of the drama + antis forcing the narrative that this is a "lolita" romance would have been a lot less.

I hope I'm wrong though and they hold one midway through.. maybe once the drama shifts to a lighter tone as Jian and Dong Hoon begin to work together and "heal" each other's wounds? PRAYING it's so.

I think they will hold one midway. Maybe after they're done with shooting? since it seems like their shooting schedule is really tight ;___;

Edit: btw sharing this since I like Park Hosan's explanation here

also a vague spoiler about the moon

Yeah seems like they're really rushing to get the winter scenes done with :(

I really hope they do! And I also wish they would guest on a variety or talk show.. or at least a photoshoot. This drama feels so under-promoted aside from tvN twitter (probs this is just me wanting more lol)?

Like there were even some comments wondering why My Mister articles were not featured on Naver's main page (Idk if this true or not).

When each episode ends I always go check Naver and I always find 3-4 episode in the main page, maybe they are not in whatever section is the Feature section, but I have seen "My Mister" articles in all sections of the Naver page, multiple articles at the same time.

The articles are also in the Naver ranking, with episode 4 there were 3 articles in the top 10 at one time. Some articles even reach #1.

Ah saw one of these comments made on an article and wasn't sure if it was true. Good to know it's not. smile.png

I'm fine with the overall pacing as this drama is more character-driven. However, I definitely do think they could cut off some unnecessary scenes here and there.

I enjoyed yesterday's episode because it was the the turning point for Jian in terms of her view on Dong Hoon + Dong Hoon discovering his wife's affair. However, I kind of felt Ep 6 was a bit boring.. nothing really significant happened. I hope now that Dong Hoon has decided to meet up with the chairman, things will get moving.
