As for me even as a kid and surrounded by people who didn't listen to western music i knew who Britney was.Her BOMT was really popular.She was in fact the first western artist most people would listen to.I didn't really know who Beyoncé was for a really long time.But anyway what was your experience?Who was popular in your country?

idk, it depends. at least in my country britney's songs are definitely more popular and played on the radio - even though i've never heard beyoncé's music in the public, she is still very known here

Britney was probably bigger during the end of the 90s - early 2000s.

 

But Beyonce had her big break as a solo artist with Crazy in Love in early 2000s as has been successful to this very day with not even one album being unsuccessful, which is amazing for a female artist with an overall career that goes back to the 90s, it's quite hard to stay on top and be influential for that long with all new artists coming every day.

 

So overall - Beyonce.

Britney was at bigger at one point. Her debut was massive, so was Oops, Britney era was still big, but not as big as the other two, she kind of cooled down during ITZ.

 

Beyoncé started coming up after her debut and is bigger globally right now.

I think they're both on the same level when it comes to global success. "Irreplaceable" put Beyonce on the map as a solo singer, whilst "Single Ladies" solidified her position. Britney ruled the 90s and early 2000s. Even after everything that went down in the 2000s with her mental breakdown she still managed to comeback and prove that she's still in the game. 

 

They cater to different audiences, the way media covers them also plays a part in how they're viewed on global scale. That elevator incident with Solange beating the shit outta Jay Z was covered around the globe.
