Stranger Things fans have grown concerned after learning of the circumstances surrounding an on-screen kiss between two child actors in the Netflix show's most recent season.

The kiss in question, which took place during the season 2 finale, happened between Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and new character Max (Sadie Sink) at the climactic Hawkins Middle School Snow Ball dance - something, it emerged on after-show Beyond Stranger Things, was unscripted and sprung upon both actors.

15-year-old Sink recounts the build-up to the moment that Ross Duffer brands “all [her] own fault.â€

She said: “I get there, the first day of Snowball… one of you, I think it was you Ross, you say, ‘Ooh, Sadie, you ready for the kiss?’ I’m like, ‘What! No! That’s not in the script… that’s not happening.’

“So the whole day I was like stressed out, I was like 'Oh my god, wait, am I gonna have to…' and it didn’t happen that day, but then the second day of Snow Ball.â€

It's here where Duffer wades in telling Sink that, despite the fact he had been joking, he felt inspired to make her do the kiss due to her initial reluctance.

“You reacted so strongly to this - I was just joking - and you were so freaked out that I was like well, I gotta make her do it now… that’s why I’m saying it’s your fault.â€

Sink and McLaughlin performed the kiss in a room full of extras as well as “their parents, and the crew and [sink's] mom.â€

Many are expressing their concern regarding the moment via social media wondering why the Duffers didn't work with the actors in order to make them feel comfortable in performing the moment

"It's your fault"...fcking yikes dude. An adult man pressured a 15 yrs old into kiss that she's uncomfortable with to get reactions out of her?...:wth:

She is an actress wtf

She's also a teenager and that comes first.

It is also not something planned and discussed before where she could at least prepare herself or have inputs, she was practically placed on the spot by the adults and clearly expressed she's uncomfortable with it.

adding in a non-scripted kiss for a child actor just because she got anxious at your joke? wtf lol

None scripted changes happen all the time in acting. If she's uncomfortable with it they could have just fired her and hire a more professional teen actor . If she's untit for it.

Sure they are limit with minor actor but i don't think a kiss is that limit.

^^^^

If you see the interview the actress is actually joking about the situation

In the midst of everything happening right now, haven't we learnt that people will try and laugh off things that make them uncomfortable?

They're kids, even if they are truly fine with this, another kid might not be. But the whole way the situation came to be would be a lot of pressure on a young actor.

And given this shows fanbase, I wish they wouldn't have kisses at all. Too many damn adults getting off on it.

True

I still think this is being made into a bigger deal than needs to be given how it's acting, and when you act as a romantic love interest you will need to kiss someone.

Meh at the dismissiveness of some ppl. Like i'm not here for demonizing the writers over this or boycotting the show cuz i'm sure they meant no harm and it seem the actress (and actor cuz he also expressed some awkwardness about it being his first kiss and all) got over it but that doesn't mean what happened and how it happen was right. The kiss was not necessary to plot or character development so why push someone to do something they're obviously not comfortable with? Had this been something discussed beforehand then sure i'd call ppl getting upset overreacting but that doesn't seem to be the case, so yeah.

if you watch the interview she wasnt that unconfortable it was just too new too fast for her but shes ok ! people are just overrecting because sadie express herself in a shy way during interviews she always seems inconfortable during interviews and doesnt speak much so people misunderstood her.

also the director seems like a fun happy nice guy to me ..idk he doesnt seem evil or mean to the kids
