It got better actually

thankx to reaction videos and billboard articles

it got slightly better

I remember when Exo got nominated for EMA back in 2013

Belivers and Directionner were really ugly

it's sad because it has a lot to do with racism

When IGAB defeated their contenders for the Youtube's Music Video Of The Year in 2013 (thank you again to all the kpop fandoms who united for a common cause to bring kpop overseas), Tiffany went onstage to receive the award with just a handful of people clapping for kpop's win that night.

Cultural short-sightedness and arrogance were displayed that night. Unfortunately, I don't think it changed much after four years.

True, when SNSD won the YTMA even Western pop media were saying lowkey racist shit about them and acting like it was a joke that they won. Now most of these people realize kpop has a big market and are jumping on the bandwagon

There will always be racists but does that mean we should just sit around and accept the West looking down on anything Asian or Eastern? BTS may receive a ton of hate for daring to break into their sphere simply for not being American and/or white (though these people would try to disguise their racism as anything else) but hey, I think it's good that both them and ARMYs are trying to bring about more acceptance towards a music industry that's outside of their (Western fans) own. At the very least, if they didn't know already what Kpop is, now they do.

Of course they do (look down on kpop). They don't know or understand it so it must be inferior. The difference between earlier kpop acts winning western awards and BTS winning western awards is that BTS has a very strong, very visible Western fanbase. So chances of a silent theater when they're on the stage is almost non-existent.

I remember this

I missed the mess and I decided not to watch the acceptance speech

when I learn what happen, I still haven't watch it tbh

I lowkey understand why SM doesn't try to push their groups

in western countries anymore, since this is the kind of reaction they get

chill I never said it's a bad thing

I'm not all about that western validation shade lol

tho I have to admit when Exo got nominated back then

I kinda stepped away from it because of the intensify bashing

and hatred

good for you guys really, I'm not being sarcastic

I think it's nice that kpop is getting mainstream

my point was we came a long way and we still have long way to go

it's kinda of a culture shock thing where western industries are slowly

starting to realise that Kpop is a real market and they are not they only global industry in the world

Blegh stan twitter loves pretending to be woke and screaming about racism but the second a kpop group happens to take place in their awards show they suddenly forget their values and it's such a travesty to see.

This soooooooooo much. But it's not even reserved to stan twitter, most westerns in general don't care about racism against Asians and probably don't even know/think it exists, even if they practice it.

They look down on kpop cause of their racist thinking which is "stanning white people automatically makes them

superior"(most of them don't even realize that they are unconsciously thinking this and that this mentality is racist). I've seen plenty of people who hated on kpop and then do a 360 and change their opinion ( a lot of directioners do this and end up stanning bts).

If some of them were more open-minded, they would be surprised to find that they just might find something that they like.

a lot of ppl don't realize there are music scenes outside of the western spheres. some ppl i knew were surprised there was a thing as korean rap

I mean, they KNOW it's out there in the same way that they KNOW the Bermuda Triangle is a thing.  you never think about it so when something pops up, you get surprised.

but you know, look at how racist the western social media was to that Chinese swimmer during Rio, and they thought that they were being kind. imstupid.png
